Cozy cabin in Truckee. The place was clean and comfortable. The hot tub was nice to relax in while it snowed. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen had everything we would need. We would return again.
We had a great time at the Golden Retreater. The house is as described, very spacious and very cozy during winter times. It is extremely well equipped for cooking and prepping meals. The location is great. Easy drive to downtown Truckee and 15-20 minutes to Northstar ski resort. We loved the outdoor hot tub after skiing and being surrounded by trees and snow. Tzvia and Oren are to reach and to communicate with. We would definitely rent this place again for a family of four.
This was our second time at this home and we plan to be back! The location close to trails and Donner Lake and the rec center is perfect! Plenty of room in the garage for bikes and paddle boards . We can’t wait to return!
We had a wonderful stay at this cabin. It was a good size for two couples and a teenager. The 3 bedrooms were comfortable and the cabin was well stocked for all we needed. The bonus was the outdoor hot tub after a day of skiing.
We had a fantastic time at the Retreater and appreciated all the thoughtful details that made the house feel like a home.
The neighborhood is amazing, and I enjoyed exploring one of the backwood trails with my dog, which was a delightful experience for both of us.
It's also only a 5-minute drive to the cool Coffeebar and BottleShop stores on Donner Pass Rd.
We also appreciated the efficient AC, which kept us cool and comfortable throughout the hot Fourth of July weekend.

wonderful!
second time we have stayed here and love the area and the cabin. the owners are always very nice and professional also!
Beautiful home , everything we needed for our family trip . Enjoyed a wonderful snow day right at the cabin and had a great time checking out the town and local ski resorts . Truly the best rental we’ve tried.
We really enjoyed our time at the Golden Retreater! My family stays in Tahoe for a week every summer at this was one of our best experiences. Tzvia was incredibly accommodating and responsive. We hope to be back soon!
AC unit did not work. Owner was ver responsive and apologetic. Got a tech out the next day but could not fix. Owner was absolutely fantastic. I would rent again.
The hot tub is very old and the jets don't work, control panel was disintigrated. This was not a new problem according to the maintenance person. A door knob on the laundry room was almost falling off and I found a screw driver to tighten it. The house was very scented with candles and soaps, which makes me wonder what they are covering. Garage openers didn't work and it snowed so the plow had packed snow behind my vehicle and I had to remove skis at night, rather than just pull in. The house could be very nice with a little more TLC!

Not as advertised
Two days prior to our trip, I was notified that due to the unprecedented weather this year, snow was covering the jacuzzi and they could not find someone to clear the jacuzzi and something to the extent that it was expensive to do so. We were offered a full refund to cancel, but by that point we were committed to ski lessons and there were few other options. So I asked if we could clear it ourselves and was told yes. Stay tuned…
When we arrived to the house, the entire staircase to the front door was piled high with snow. We had to literally climb in full snow gear to get to the door, it was a very frustrating welcome to the weekend.
That night, the power went out. Not the owner’s fault, but like other places we have stayed at, there should have been clear instructions as to where we could find flashlights and candles as part of the check in info. Especially with the unprecedented weather this season.
Now back to the jacuzzi. My husband spent an hour digging a path and clearing the snow from the top, only to find that it had been turned off and was ice cold! Even turning it on the minute we arrived would not have been adequate to heat and use. Again, this is something that should have been tended to if you advertise a jacuzzi as part of the rental. Especially after I asked if we could clear and use.
You can get better rentals for less expensive in the neighborhood. This place needs a local property manager. I would not stay here again.
The cabin was great. The location was peaceful and quiet even though we were there for the 4th of July weekend. The microwave wasn't working when we first arrived. I messaged the owner and a new one was sent over. Great place to stay!
The owners were friendly and informative, and the house was very clean and well-stocked. Access to the Tahoe Donner club amenities (for a fee) was an added bonus. Easy check-in/check-out and everything in working order. Overall wonderful experience!
The property has SO many amenities - everything you could ever want for a weekend getaway, including a fully stocked (with kitchen supplies) kitchen. Would definitely recommend.
The cabin was everything we were expecting. The amenities were great and we had everything needed to have a good taco night. The cabin is also full of games and books to pass the time and enjoy. The hot tub was a little low and didn't seem to have been cleaned recently, which was the only downside. We decided not to go in as a result.
My main worry when we stay in someone else's home is whether my husband's asthma will be brought on by perfumes, especially in the bedding. I was very happy that he had no trouble breathing at all.
The place was very clean. I was delighted at how well the kitchen was stocked. Just bring fresh meats and produce, and you can make just about any meal. Lots of Asian seasonings. And several ways to make coffee!
Our mini Aussie loved the large area in the back between the houses, which were mostly empty. Turns out she's a snow dog!
The beds are very comfy., but the bedrooms are small. You couldn't squeeze in a portacrib., but there are plenty of places besides the bedrooms for older kids.
As the description stated, the living room is very sunny. The bad part of that is the bright sun shining in your face, and don't plan to watch TV until after the sun goes down.
Overall, the place is great, and I would recommend it.
Overall great stay! The house is close to DT Truckee, ski resorts and other close attractions. If you have pets, this is a great choice bc very dog friendly. Thanks for having us!
Our stay was pretty good overall. We enjoyed the comfort of the home and the proximity to ski resorts as well as the jacuzzi. Everything was clean and we had plenty of things to do at the cabin. Only thing is that the cabin is a bit older and hasn’t had much updates done to it so there seems to be some deferred maintenance. Overall, we would recommend if you just need a comfortable place to stay in the mountains.

About the host
Hosted by Oren and Tzvia Abramson
We live in the Bay Area but we love Tahoe. We are fortunate to have realized our dream and purchase a house that allows us to spend more time hiking, skiing, kayaking and other outdoors activities that our family enjoys. Yes...we are obsessed with our Golden Retriever, Sadie, so we unanimously decided to name our vacation home: The Golden Retreater'. We are sharing this house with guests and hope you will enjoy being here as much as we do.
Why they chose this property
Our house is conveniently located in Tahoe Donner, which is just out of highway 80 at the entrance to the Tahoe area, so you avoid much of the Tahoe City and North Lake traffic. Yet, it's only a 10-15 minute drive to major ski resorts, the Tahoe Rim and Pacific Crest Trail, and national forests, lakes and parks. The house is nestled in a quiet and peaceful pine forest, in lower Tahoe Donner, a few steps from nearby trails. As part of the HOA, all the amenities that Tahoe Donner offers such as pools, tennis courts, golf course, gym and a private beach on Donner Lake, are also available to our guests. The house is a charming chalet style that conveniently hosts 6 guests with additional space for dining visitors.
