About this property

Kelly Point - Built in harmony with nature

"Probably no other architect of his time did more to change the face of America than Benjamin C. Thompson" - Robert Campbell, Boston Globe.

Kelley Point, located in a lush, oceanside setting with private beach, is a spectacular rustic, contemporary-style house that provides a unique opportunity to experience the inspirational design of one of America's leading architects, Benjamin C. Thompson (known for Boston's Faneuil Hall Market, Baltimore's Harborside, and Miami's Bayside).

Built in harmony with nature, this 3-bedroom home has massive windows to capture stunning scenery. Thompson called this design his "caterpillar house", referring to the long, zig-zag design that blends in with surrounding trees to be inconspicuous from the water. The house looks out to Big Babson Island, owned by Maine Coast Heritage Trust and open to picnickers and day visitors.

Find another place
This place has amazing potential and views but that was where it stopped. The place was beyond dirty when we arrived. Shower curtains were black with mold. Our feet were black from walking barefoot on the floor. Dead and live bugs everywhere. The crowning blow was when we opened the oven and there were burned up chicken bones in the bottom.

Wonderful Maine experience!
Location is very remote but near the very cute town of Brooklin. The house is right on its own private beach with wonderful rocks to walk on and perfect access for swimming. The mid century house is very cool and perfect for a large family. But the downstairs bedrooms are not as fresh as the upstairs. The kitchen and bathrooms are still from the original period so you need to be ok with old plumbing and worn wood work. But the kitchen and living room are wonderful hang out places for social fun gatherings. Loved it! Didn’t want to leave.

Lack of disclosure and communication
The house was great, very beautiful design and layout. We loved the location and seclusion. It was hard to find when we first got there, I believe some directions from the property managers would have been helpful. GPS will only take you so far. Also, it was very DISTURBING when we realized someone was staying in the guest house 20 feet away, outback, we thought we were the only ones there. We never saw the guest outback, however there would be changes to the guest house when we would leave and comeback, like an open window, dog leash tied to the porch and lights on at night which gave us a very creepy feeling. Considering, the home had floor to ceiling windows, everywhere, even in the bathrooms and a shower, I worried about someone seeing us and my children bathing, No Privacy, it was a very unsettling feeling!!!! When we tried to communicate with the property managers and owner there was no emergency phone numbers available, all the numbers I called, I received no answer, I emailed them and received a response the next day, confirming someone was staying in the guest house!! Out of all the VRBO homes I have rented this has been the hardest to communicate with, I usually receive a response immediately or within a couple hours!! Very disappointing!! This rental company should have disclosed someone was staying outback, gave better directions and provided an emergency contact number😡😡😡👎👎👎
