About this property

Secluded Cottage Overlooking Montague Bay

Weekly Rentals only. Saturday to Saturday.

Situated behind a grove of birch trees, this custom-built, ten-year old, two-story, cedar-shake cottage overlooks a three mile wide bay -- perfect for sailing or canoeing.

The countryside is green and rolling with meadows and forests interspersed between livestock pasture and potato fields. From the 72' x 12' deck which surrounds the house you will experience fabulous sunsets descending over the Montague River which is visible from Clements Cove to Georgetown. The Lower Montague Wharf is part of the view as are the lobster boats moored next to the occasional yacht.

The well-groomed, two acre lawn in front of the house is surrounded by birch, pine and spruce on all sides - ideal for kids and dogs. The house interior has been recently renovated with a completely renovated kitchen with ceramic tile flooring and European cabinetry. The downstairs full bath now has ceramic tile and a glass enclosed wrap-around shower. There are new solid oak new floors in the living room and new ceramic tile floors in the kitchen and bath and replacement windows throughout. I have just put in a Mitsubishi Heat Pump which will air condition the entire house, The washer and dryer are in the basement and there is cable TV with VCR/DVD player in the living room. Upstairs there are three bedrooms plus full bath: a good sized master bedroom with queen sized bed and a full view of the water, a guest room with a double bed and, a child's bed room with a single bed.

Visitors can swim on the beach 100 yards down from the house, but there are much better beach options within a 5 to 25 mile range. Panmure Island Beach (4 miles) is a Provincial Park and has one of the nicest beaches on PEI. PEI accurately claims The Gulf Stream gives us the warmest waters north of Florida.

Local seafood is excellent, abundant and a bargain. The lobsters, mussels, clams, haddock, halibut, cod and other species are fresh daily at the local supermarket or from roadside trucks in Montague.

The town of Montague is three miles away and has restaurants, super markets, hardware stores, and fitness club with indoor pool and water slide ($35 weekly family memberships). Across the Bay there is the Brudenell Resort (12 miles by car) with 36 holes of championship golf, tennis, horseback riding , windsurfing, and even lawn bowling.

Travel by car is pleasant, but flying to Halifax and renting a car is an option worth thinking about. The trip from the airport to the Wood Islands ferry is about two hours; the boat trip is an hour, and then you have a 25 mile drive to Lower Montague.

Nice cozy cottage 😀

Very nice clean cottage. Well stocked kitchen. Nice location - was great being close to big grocery stores so that I didn’t have to bring all the food with me. The heat pump kept us nice and cool and the beds were very comfy. Was great having two bathrooms each with showers. The only down side was that there wasn’t much in the way of comfortable seating - one small couch and a rocking chair (and 4 wooden dining chairs) for 6 of us. All in all we had a lovely stay and didn’t want to leave!

Cute and comfortable cottage close to beautiful beaches

Our family spent a week exploring east PEI and this was a lovely cottage to come home to at the end of the day. It had all the essentials we needed on a great property to sit outside and let the dog and kid run around. We also loved walking down to the wharf to watch the boats and collecting rocks when the tide was out. It was in a great location close to numerous beautiful beaches. Communication with Keith was easy and the neighbours were so friendly. Thanks for the stay!

Beautiful Lower Montague.

Beautiful cottage on a large piece of land. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owner was very welcoming and made suggestions for campfires for us and the girls and grandkids. The area is very peaceful and the neighborhood is as friendly as it gets. It is a little far from the main PEI attractions but we had lots of time. Great place to stay.

Cute cottage in very convenient location

We have rented a number of cottages over the years, on PEI and elsewhere in the east. This one features a great location close to Montague and Panmure Island. The cottage is very well kept and equipped. The kitchen is especially convenient and well-supplied. Overall an excellent stay for our family.

Get Away at Lower Montague, PEI, Canada

Wonderful experience at 471 Lower Montague Road. House was perfect. Setting among the grove of White Birch trees, idyllic. Can't say enough good things about our stay in your cozy and welcoming cottage. Loved the wrap around deck. Even made friends with the crows. Definitely a winner and return destination. Michael J. Beautiful Cottage

We had a super time at this cottage. It is very clean and updated with all the amenities you could want. Full kitchen, washer, dryer. Beautiful well kept manicured lawn, lots of room to play games. Very large deck with patio tables and chairs and a barbecue. Two full bathrooms with tub and a shower. Three bedrooms with one room that has a twin bed and the other two rooms have a Queen and a double. Fridge stove, oven. microwave and a dishwasher. Beautifully treed with areas to walk around. Short walk down the hill to a wharf. It is close to Montague, where there is a hospital, a wonderful food truck (Fun in a Bun), a very good restaurant (Window on the Water), Home Hardware, Sobeys, Super Save, Pharmacies, library, arena. There is a Farmers Market. Close to Panmure Island, beautiful sandy beach with an excellent little outdoor food cafe and a lighthouses on the Island (One of the two best lighthouses on the Island). Close to all the beautiful beaches, recommend going to Cavendish where it has the beautiful red rocks, but watch for the jelly fish, Another beautiful beach is Basin Head where the kids all jump off the bridge. We truly had a great week with our twin grand girls. The cottage also has a TV with cable and Netflix, full internet and a phone that you can use to call anywhere in North America. Very private and quiet.

Great summer getaway... 3 years and counting!

Every year my wife and I plan a week-long trip to PEI, and normally stay in the Montague area (close to family). We found this cottage online in 2013, after a couple other places we were looking at were unavailable… but boy did things work out for us! This cottage was absolutely awesome! We stayed at this cottage in 2013 for a week in August, and had a great time, so great that we pinged Keith, the owner, and rebooked for 2014 (this review is from our 2014 visit). Arriving at the cottage was smooth – we simply parked the truck (there is ample parking for several vehicles), and opened up the cottage. It was clean and tidy, with a detailed note on how to work the DVD, AppleTV, washer and dryer, dishwasher, etc… so we didn’t have to figure anything out! The cottage itself was more than enough for just the two of us. The main level has a living/dining area, with the kitchen, as well as a full bathroom (there is also a bookcase full of DVDs, VHS tapes, and books – we ended up watching Casablanca, as it had been a while since we watched it!). Upstairs there are three bedrooms, along with a second full bath. There are loads of dressers and closets, so we were able to unpack, and really feel at home. The cottage was close to Montague, as well as Panmure Beach, so pretty much every day, we’d head into one of those two spots. Though the cottage had enough amenities that we often spent time just chillin’ at the cottage. There was a BBQ, and a big deck with a patio set, so there were many-a-meal cooked and enjoyed out on the deck. The deck overlooked the massive yard, and while we didn’t make a lot of use of that, it would be great for kids to run around, toss a ball, etc… Overall, the cottage was excellent, and tremendous value for the money. In fact, we have already asked Keith about coming back in 2015! We can’t wait!

I grew up on PEI in the house down hill from the cottage. A house now owned by my sister. I have always come back to PEI every summer and about 25 years ago my brother and I decided to build the uphill house described in this listing. Since then we have constantly updated the structure and the amenities. It is now fully modernized with internet, cable TV and an up-to-date kitchen and laundry. Last fall I replaced all the windows and re-did the downstairs flooring in oak hardwood in the living room and ceramic tile in the bath and kitchen. Also added was a high end Mitsubishi Heat Pump which provides air conditioning on hot days and nights.

Why they chose this property

Lower Montague is unique on PEI. There is a by-pass, (route #17), so only local traffic passes by. And not much of that. The Bay is to the north-west of the house so most nights you can enjoy a spectacular sunset from the
72' x 12' deck surrounding the house.

What makes this property unique

The view from the cottage takes in the confluence of the Brudenell, Montague and Cardigan rivers and is over 2 miles wide. On the water to the left of the house is the Lower Montague warf where local fishermen moor their boats. You'll see them return to port every afternoon around 3:00. If you want to see them leave, better get up early.
