About this property

Located less than a mile west of Barcelona Harbor just off of Route 5 in a quiet rural setting. Close to a small wooded area with a nice path to a beautiful private beach. We are directly in the heart of wine country and a short drive to Chautauqua Institution which offers concerts, theater, world famous speakers as well as 2 - 18 hole golf courses. Also located close by is Midway Amusement Park, Panama Rocks and Peek n Peak as well as many other points of interest. Cottage is fully furnished including linens. The roomy larger bedroom has 2 full size beds. Second bedroom has a queen size bed. There is 1 bathroom, washer and dryer, full kitchen, dining area and living room. Cottage has cable and internet and rents from Saturday to Saturday during the months of June, July and August.

Wonderful stay

My family and I love our stay at Dale’s cottage! Great distance to the private beach! Our family loved the beach and was excited for a campfire at the beach! We’re definitely planning to stay here again! Thank you Dale for the local suggestions and for a wonderful stay at your awesome cottage!

Awesome

This place was really nice super close to the private beach. We enjoyed the night fire on the beach. Caught a bunch of fish love this place will be coming back.

This place is so amazing. The beach is so beautiful. The sunsets are amazing. The beach glass you can find is awesome. The water is super clear for snorkeling. Just an all-around great place.!

Cute cottage

Cottage had everything we needed. Very cute. You could tell it was a little older with some structural and construction details-but that didn’t matter to us. Gave it 4 stars for cleanliness only because Dale thought we were coming the next day and didn’t have a chance to do a thorough clean-everything important was nice and clean though-but there were some cobwebs. Love the beach! Thanks for a fun weekend!

Just Loved Our Stay!

I almost hate to say how much we enjoyed our trip! The house was clean, cute and comfy! The host left the door open and the key on the table. From then on, we were at home! Comfortable beds, great cable and my golden was in heaven. This house is close to a private beach and we enjoyed the beach during the morning walks looking for sea glass, to sunning in the afternoon and finally spectacular sunsets every night. We were not ready to leave! Picked pears at local farm, went to Farmers & Artisan Market on Saturday. We will definitely be planning a return trip!

Fern Cabin

We had a very relaxing time and the cabin was very comfortable. The location to the lake and to Erie and Jamestown was just right. Would stay there again if coming back to the area.

Erie was great!

We loved staying at the house. It has a beautiful path to the rocky beach where we fished for steelhead and looked for beach glass. It’s easy to get around the area and a great base camp if you’re day-tripping to Buffalo, Erie or Niagara

Lovely Lake Cottage

We had a fabulous time at this lovely cottage. It was truly a short walk to a semi-private beach where we spent hours collecting beautiful sea glass. We enjoyed a campfire along the path to the beach where a fire pit with seating and ample firewood was available. The home was clean and comfortable. The host was very responsive and provided a recommendation for where to get fresh fish to cook at the cottage. We only wish that our stay was longer. We hope to return!

Comfortable Cottage by the Lake

Dale’s cute cottage is a great place to stay to relax and enjoy the lake. It’s clean, quiet, with updated amenities, comfortable beds, and all the comforts of home. Only wish our schedule this trip to Westfield would have allowed us to spend more time right there. We’ll look forward to another stay when we can do just that.

Weekend getaway

Great stay at this cottage by the lake! Loved the property & the little path to the water. The beach had tons of awesome rocks! Lots of skipping rocks going on. Dale was a great host & very attentive to any questions that came up!

Relaxing get away

Cottage was exactly as pictured. You could hear the lake waves from the front porch of the cottage and see some of it through the trees. The walk down to the lake was short and there were chairs waiting for you on the beach.

Family Time

My sister and I were looking for somewhere to stay close to Steel Run Campground. Another sister was camping there with her trailer. Your cottage was cute, clean and very accommodating. Very thankful that you have A/C and fully stocked! We would like to book it again next year!

Wonderful Stay

Quaint cabin in perfect location and short walking access to Lake Erie. Besides being so close to the lake the accommodations were close to Westfield, the Barcelona Lighthouse and the public beach & boat launches (5 minutes max drive). WiFi was easy to connect to along with Smart TV for access to personal streaming apps. The Matthews were responsive to inquiries in a very timely manner. AC units available, but hardly had to use - Great Lake breezes.

Started out great....my dogs first trip to the beach.

No description of dogs needing to have collar and leash. I believe the gentleman was Dale's husband saw me heading to the beach when he came up with two of their dogs....didn't say anything or I would have had them on. Came back down knowing we were there and he told me his dogs were in heat. Not knowing if my two were fixed or not. One of my dogs was swimming with his...his dog bit my dogs cheek and then a huge altercation broke out between the dogs. My dogs or i have never been in a situation like that. I'm not sure about his dogs but it was a scarey situation...I still have nightmares. I was told to leave ....do not clean up just go....when I came to check on his dogs. I never saw Dale, but told I would receive a call and I never did. Nor did I get my two days back of my rental that I was not allowed to stay. I offered to pay the vet bill, not even seeing the injury to their dog. My dogs had bite marks and puncture wounds. The one dog had bleeding of the eyes and swelling of head from the beatings he took from the owners husband. Has been having head tremors. Like I said all in all a bad trip that could have been avoided if rules were posted and he didn't take 2 dogs in heat to the beach...even though mine are fixed it's not good for any dogs in heat to be around other dogs. He even told me when renters come with dogs we text each other so each has there own privacy....why wasn't that done with me? I went off of the reviews from other people and I believe my stay would have been good too if tye husband used better judgement.

Cottage By the Lake

Perfect little cottage by the lake for my husband and I to spend our “25th” wedding anniversary. We spent every morning at the beach collecting beach glass., and listening to the waves crash on the shore. The cottage is not far from local wineries, and Chautauqua Lake. I can’t wait to book again.

Enjoyable stay

Coordinated this stay for friends. Dale, the host, was extremely helpful and responsive in answering questions. Great midway point for friends from Central Pennsylvania and Canada to meet. The stay was enjoyable; especially enjoyed spending time on the private beach.

Private Beach!!

We had a wonderful time at Fern Cottage. The online listing was spot on. The beds were very comfortable & we slept well. The Cottage had everything we needed, and never needed to contact our Host. Including flashlights, one thing I had forgotten & was glad to find in the Cottage, allowing us to make it to the lake after dark. The short walk to the lake was a thoughtfully designed path with an added sitting & campfire area along the way. We visited the last week in September and had the shoreline all to our selves, enjoying a late night bonfire with seating provided by our host. It was a wonderful, relaxing peaceful time that we are hoping to do again!

Great long weekend

We have lived in the area ever since we got married in 1989. We both grew up coming to the beach here as kids and in fact the house that we live in was a seasonal family cottage that we have turned into a year round home. We have always loved it here and we have 6 kids and they all also love it here.

Why they chose this property

We bought this property because it is right next to our home. We feel that we are very blessed to live in such a beautiful place and we love to share it with others.

What makes this property unique

Our cottage is in a great location. It is very relaxed here. We have a small wooded area and a private beach which is really one of the best in the area. There are also so many things to see and do within a 30 mile radius of us. Also since we are right next door we are we will do anything we can to make sure your stay is memorable and enjoyable.
