What a magical spot. So many options for all the different members of our family to find something to do...reading spots, boating, swimming, games, fires, movies, gourmet kitchen, and an easy walk to town every day for coffee. We loved it
The house was beautiful and comfortable with plenty of room for our whole extended family. The location can not be beat for a walk into town for shopping and restaurants but still provided lots of privacy. All ages enjoyed the lake and activities. Great place to make special memories!
We enjoyed our stay in this vacation home. The home is large and well equipped. We particularly liked the convenience of being able to walk into downtown Lake Placid, and also being only a 15-minute drive to Whiteface Mountain. The house faces the lake, which was very serene and peaceful in the winter. The grand fireplace in the living space is warm and inviting. Plenty of space for a couple of families, and nice to have bunk beds in the basement for the kids to stay together. The owner was cordial and very responsive to any questions we had. Great rental!
We have three teenage children and were fortunate to live full-time in Lake Placid for 6 years after living in New York City, Westchester County, NY and London, England. We now reside in northwestern Connecticut, nearer to our families but we love to come back to Lake Placid every chance we get!
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with Lake Placid and the Adirondacks while visiting friends during the summer of 2003 and bought our first property on that very trip. There is always something going on in Lake Placid - horse shows, lacrosse tournaments, marathons and Iron Man, hockey tournaments and live music. The town also has many terrific restaurants and shopping when you need a little 'retail therapy.' There are fantastic spas where you can get treatments and yoga and exercise options galore. The hiking and fishing are absolutely world class and there is great skiing at Whiteface Mountain or cross country at several areas around town. I think being able to use actual Olympic venues adds to the town's appeal as well. What kid (or adult) isn't thrilled to ski on an Olympic mountain or skate around an actual speed skating oval? Where else can you take a biathlon lesson?? Lake Placid has something for everyone - it is a place where you can be very active or just relax, taking in the beautiful alpine scenery.
What makes this property unique
When we decided to make Lake Placid our full-time residence, we bought this house because of its fantastic view of Whiteface Mountain and Lake Placid lake and the ease with which we could walk to town, etc. The boathouse is a kids' paradise - they jump off the deck and swim out to the swim dock or kayak around Paradox Bay or take the Sunfish out for a sail. We have enjoyed every season there and love entertaining our friends and family in this house. It is always cozy in winter and cool in summer and there are so many areas in which to curl up with a book or a cocktail and just watch the light change as you look at the lake and the mountains. It is a truly special place.
