A wonderful Family Thanksgiving

We needed a large house for three families (and two dogs) for Thanksgiving and this was perfect -- lots of room in the living area for the four pre-teen kids to play games and hang out, and still more room for the six adults. A large fireplace in the living room provided warmth and atmosphere. The large industrial kitchen was perfect for preparing the Thanksgiving feast -- fully equipped with everything we needed. Whenever we had a question, Tai, the caregiver, was right there with the answer. The grounds are beautiful and it is somewhat secluded - about a mile up a dirt road from the highway. The only "cloud" over our stay was from the weather. It was overcast most of the time, with a little rain the day before wet arrived, so it was chilly and damp outside - not as much hiking as we had hoped. Rich and Renee, the owners, were very personable and thoughtful in providing everything we needed for a wonderful stay in their home. This was a very memorable Thanksgiving and we look forward to returning to the CazSonoma Inn for another visit in the spring when the weather should be warmer.

About the host

Hosted by Rich Mitchell

Host profile image
Rich and Renee Mitchell's estate was built in the 1920's as a hunting lodge although re-imagined many times over the years. Once as a Gasthaus and German restaurant where, in the mill pond, you could catch your own trout for dinner. The Mitchell's created an English Inn among the Redwoods with Italian gardens and offered an eclectic European cuisine. Over those fifteen years they've produced lectures, festivals, and theater to give life and art to nature's enchanted setting.

Why they chose this property

If you are seeking the tranquility of a large hidden cottage filled with a Shakespearean library and it's well worn books, a tall brick fireplace and grand piano, an expansive dinning room with Craftsman windows, a big Tuscan kitchen and cosy Swiss pub, then the Estate's Mill Pond Cottage might be right for you.

What makes this property unique

Mill Pond Cottage's expansive deck rests under old growth Redwoods, framed by Kidd and Clear Creek, looks out at the stone pond house and White Ribbon falls. Ducks and trout, fox and deer, owls and dove abound in the 160 acres which surround Mill Pond Cottage. Blackberry bushes border the streams and provide a tasty dessert for al-fresco lunches prepared by you or our resident chef in the Italian kitchen. Above the deck and pond are 5 guest rooms dedicated to Jane Austen, Beatrix Potter, and Agatha Christie, whose books you'll find there. The deck's symphony of sound is all nature--water falling, doves cooing, a sea breeze. No telephones, internet, or televisions will disturb you. It is a rare place for perfect moments of music, stories, and quiet reading that may appeal to your family and dear friends.
