1st family vacation with kids and grandkids.
Disappointed about the musty smell. Turning AC on was worse, definitely something died in the ductwork. Sleeping quarters upstairs had no AC. Treacherous stairway!! Having to wash cookware before use is just creepy. Based on reviews thought it would have been nicer.

Happiness !
We absolutely loved our week at Tom's Cabin! The cabin is cozy and the screened in porch is a wonderful spot to unwind. Fishing off the dock, kids playing in tubes and rock hunting in the water, bonfires riverside....this location was perfect for all our favorite river activities!!

Perfect Winter Getaway
This was the perfect rustic getaway for our family. The location was a great hub for nordic ski activity at nearby state parks, Hanson Hills and XC Ski HQ. We could have stayed much longer. The cabin is cozy and inviting. Can only imagine how great it is in the summer too!

Cozy winter getaway
We enjoyed spending a few winter days up at Uncle Tom's Cabin. The location is beautiful, tucked away and right along the river. The cabin is old and rustic yet clean and charming. We enjoyed the fireplace and cozy living spaces. The kitchen is very basic but did the trick for our family of 4. The stairs leading to the upstairs bedrooms and bathroom are extremely steep and narrow. Overall the cabin is well maintained.

Magical break from the city
We had a brief but wonderful stay at the property. The cabin had so much character and felt so rustic and peaceful but had all of the amenities we city folk needed to be comfortable. The cabin accommodated 8 adults and 2 kids very easily but we spent so much time exploring the beautiful outdoors and relaxing on the river. We also saw a meteor shower - the night sky was amazing. The host, William, was very responsive, friendly and helpful. We’d love to return!

Such a cool place!
Our family had a wonderful winter weekend at Uncle Tom's cabin. The cabin is very comfortable for 8 adults and is perfectly decorated for anyone who loves the outdoors. We cross-country skied the trails across the street and winter fly fished with streamers and nymphs along the river. Fantastic place for a getaway.

Uncle Tom’s Cabin
This place has everything we wanted for a 5 day fishing/grouse hunting trip. Great location on the main branch of the Au Sable, within easy reach of many favorite grouse coverts, splendid views of the river, and plenty of privacy. The cabin itself is old, very old, but well maintained, clean and just modern enough to be comfortable without sacrificing any of the charm you’d expect from an old place like this. Best of all, from the perspective of grouse hunters, they allow dogs! The owners were very nice and very responsive to our needs. We’d definitely recommend Uncle Tom’s Cabin!

Uncle Tom's Cabin - Relaxation Awaits
This was a great historic cabin decorated very well. We found it to be a very quiet location and we loved the screened porch. The owner was very hospitable and all went well! I highly recommend this as a place to get away from it all.

Cozy cabin in the piney woods
We had a guys' weekend fishing and hanging out at the cabin. It was a perfect fit for us and we got to enjoy the Au Sable River to do some fly fishing and hang out on the property to relax. The cabin is nice, but is rustic (and a bit creaky upstairs). Also, the staircase is not for everyone, since it is very steep and the stairs are compressed. We navigated it well as a bunch of middle-aged guys, but anyone with limited mobility may be challenged with it. Overall, it was a very relaxing stay and we had a great time!

Great for nature- lover! I loved it!
A wonderful place on the beautiful river, lots of land, swimming, hiking!! I found a path to the State forest and went hiking daily! A huge screened in porch and fire place and chairs on the dock were just great. Sleeping arrangements are more suitable for a couple of adults and several young people as all upstairs bedrooms were very warm and camp- stye, despite the air conditioner unit. I, who slept in the downstairs bedroom with my husband , loved every minute of my small vacation but my guests were a bit uncomfortable in the bunk beds.

Amazing place!
The place is perfect for small groups as the location to world class fishing and golf is wonderful. Very accommodating hosts that want their customers to enjoy the norther Michigan as they do. I just hope the property is available for my next corporate fishing/golf trip.

Thank you for our rustic retreat!
Thank you for our Northwoods retreat on the beautiful Au Sable River. This lovely remote and rustic setting was perfect for our family. We appreciated all the welcoming spots to relax and reconnect - by the fireplace, the fire pit, the dock and the wonderful screened porch. We enjoyed them all! The elegant touches in this rustic cabin were surprising and fun - the chandelier over the antique dining table, the hand painted dishes, the comfy leather couches, and that amazing vintage stove in the tiny kitchen! Pontooned on Higgins Lake and sailed on a tall ship out of Traverse City, and were always happy to come back to our log cabin retreat. Thank you!

Great Place!
Really one of the better pieces of fishing property in the state of Michigan. Very private, historic log cabin in a beautiful setting tucked in the woods with great river access. Very easy wading accessible on the immediate property and a fishing trail will take you on a tour downstream to many more bends of river. Also very close to the Holy Waters upstream and the bigger waters downstream if you have the need to get out and explore. Plenty of non fishing activities as well; great hiking, kayaking and canoeing for the non fishing members of your group. Overall, it really was a great experience and would highly recommend.

Peaceful Bliss
Our family has rented cabins all over the great state of Michigan and were very pleased to stumble upon this secluded, peaceful place located right on the Au Sable River! We spent time floating on the river, fishing from the dock and waving to people floating down river from the large screened porch. The decor of this charming cabin melded rustic and modern beautifully. Lots of attention to detail in this place, which you truly need to see to appreciate. It provided all the amenities required for a stress-free vacation (linens, towels, stocked kitchen, gas grill, plenty of firewood, outside chairs, washer/dryer, AC, etc), with grocery and restaurants within a short drive. (We recommend Spike's Keg O Nails - local bar & grill - food & service were great!) The cabin owners were professional and courteous to deal with and also provided extra niceties upon arrival. I will second another reviewer's comments in that the stairs leading to the second floor and main sleeping quarters are steep - after all this was a pioneer cabin. We didn't have any issues, but I can see where some people might. It was also warm up there at night, but the fan provided adequate movement for comfortable sleeping. We would definitely stay here again!
