About this property

Restored 18th century Chateau, a fine country retreat

The house sits atop a hill overlooking the little village of Boissy-les-Perche and surrounded with farmland on 12 acres. It was built at the end of the 18th century as a hunting lodge for the Marquis de Chambrais and has been enlarged and improved on since.
The main floor has a formal sitting room, office and large dining room as well as a family sitting room with television next to the informal eating area of the fully equiped kitchen. For the summer months there is an outside table and chairs.
Upstairs are the seven bedrooms, with either wool carpets or wood floors, two have king sized beds, two have large antique beds and three have single beds(twin). All have large french windows. Two bathrooms have bathtubs and one has a spacious shower.
One of the king-sized rooms we call the library on account of the antique bookshelf, and it has its own bathroom and television.
Let us know your particular needs and we can assist with cribs, high chairs etc.

Perfect peaceful family time together
My husband and I brought our children to spend the holidays. Isa was a perfect hostess and made us feel really at home. The kids played on the trampoline and we all had long strolls down the country lane. This was a perfect place for us to recharge and deeply rest.
Stayed 6 nights in Dec 2017

Merveilleux We entre amis

Fantastic Spot
I was part of a large family get together at LaCourangere for the summer of 2016. This chateau hit all the right things needed for a very successful stay! We all enjoyed it very much! There are many new things done to this 18th century chateau....bathrooms are recent, mechanicals have been redone and house is decorated with great taste. It helped to know who put the house together and the history of the house. The family that called this place their home when they were not in Paris gave us a unique opportunity. We celebrated Mdme. Duvert s 107th birthday at the chateau. The family is local and their help was much appreciated. There are many things to do around the area. Some of the ones we really liked were the market in L Aigle, Verneuill, Normandy, Monet s gardens, small country towns, Paris, Versailles and much more. We tried to buy our food direct from the local farmers and speciality shops. The wine is cheaper than coffee! The kids loved horseback riding, the animals, paint ball, the trampoline and the forest behind the chateau. This is a large house that has much character, charm and atmosphere. The place is nicer than the pictures. Many of us put away our electronics and enjoyed time with one another. Some needed the therapy and medication of a beautiful chateau like this. A five star visit for us!! Thanks to Isa., Marie and Jennifer.

Amazing!
I always dreamed of this kind of vacation -- staying in a villa in the country. The manoir is very spacious with more rooms than what we know to do with. It's gorgeous and very well appointed. The environment is very quiet, relaxing and peaceful. The hosts are very nice and helpful. I almost feel like I'm in Downton Abbey!

Extraordinary and Peaceful
My husband and I had the privilege of spending three weeks at Le Courangere in July of 2014. Out time there is indelibly inscribed in our hearts as a “time out of time.” The silence was extraordinary! We had forgotten that such places could yet exist. Even the word peaceful is insufficient to describe the “feeling” of this place. We found it extraordinary. I loved bathing in the beautiful bathroom across from our room. The tub was perfect, and as I luxuriated in the warm water, I could gaze out the large french windows to the tree lined ponds and back gardens. Absolutely heavenly experience. We loved the little town of Verneuil-sur-Avre, only a short drive from the chateau. We found many little towns to explore and really needed more time to do all we would have liked to do. There is a little restaurant we found in a nearby town that was incredibly divine. Perhaps Jennifer will recall the name as I have now forgotten. It was definitely our favorite. We also took a two-day journey up to Honfleur, and along the Normandy coast. Breath-taking! Surrounding our little village there were wonderful antique shops to explore, friendly people, and children who seemed to have fallen right out of story books. The pace is slow in this part of France. We felt as if we were remembering how people were supposed to live. When it came time to leave, we were very reluctant. We did not want to leave the people we had met, the silence, or the calm pace of sanity that was the norm for Le Courangere. This is a very healing place. I remembered parts of myself long forgotten, I relaxed beyond what I thought possible, and I found my thoughts deepen and open to subtleties of experience that were enriching and deeply rejuvenating. I have a dream that we will some day return and be able to spend a month, or more.

About the host

Host profile image
We are a French (Laurent)/American(Jennifer) couple who have traveled extensively and always dreamed of having a home to offer to fellow travelers.

Why they chose this property

Here is a great spot for families to get together and make memories.

What makes this property unique

As an American it was love at first sight with the Courangere, from the three century old cedar tree to the wisteria growing over the facade, to the pigeon turret built for carrier pigeons in the old days it is pure charm. For Laurent it was a place from his youth that was an escape from the city to the simple pleasures of the country and his beloved grandmother.
We think that we have something special to offer because of we know what both cultures expect. Also we believe that having on site management allows travelers to engage more fully and deeply with the experience. For example which bakery is currently baking the best baguette?, or what about the stocked pond up the country lane where children can fish or enjoy an ice pop? Or stories of the legends surrounding the house.
The Courangere is also a great base for excursions that help you to connect with the wealth of history that is everywhere in the Old Country.
