About this property

Very rare, traditional Spanish finca/villa

A 200-year-old restored finca (villa) in the traditional Spanish style, that is completely unique in its setting and style.

From the thick stone walls, hand-cast terracotta floor tiles and wooden shutters to the beautiful bancales surrounding the property, this is a hidden gem that visitors return to year after year.

Totally secluded yet within minutes of the stunning village of Jesus Pobre, the golf resort at La Sella and the two beach towns of Javea and Denia.

The house is surrounded by woodland making it a truly special retreat. At the front there are magnificent views of the Montgo mountain and national park while at the back of the finca is a private swimming pool and pergola.

There are three bedrooms: A master bedroom with superking- size bed, ensuite bathroom and balcony views of the pool and gardens. There are also two twin-bedded rooms which share a bathroom with walk-in shower and toilet. Between these bedrooms its is possible to sleep 6 adults comfortably.
For extra beds.

All bedrooms have individual airconditioning units, which can be turned on if required.

Downstairs comprises a big kitchen with full dining table, an open-plan reading area and small lounge plus a large living room with smart TV.

Directly off the kitchen is a shaded pergola with outside sofas and chairs as well as an outside dining table. These look directly onto the swimming pool and are perfect perfect for lounging around whether for breakfast, siestas or dinner.

A large BBQ area sits just to the right of the kitchen with BBQ and paella facilities. Steel cafe chairs set around a long traditional heavy wooden table. This area is wonderful for long lazy lunches while you watch the kids in the pool or you can sit under the soft lights at night that are strung above the table.

The pool is a good size and has full width steps all along the shallow end that make it perfect for toddlers learning to swim or for older guests who want to get in and out of the water easily. There are lovely traditional wrought iron railings with gates around the pool.

Right next to the pool is a relaxed chill out area with sofas and large coffee table, all shaded to keep you cool during the height of summer - great at any time of day and perfect for afternoon siestas.

All around the house are cleared bancales (traditional terraces) and you will find numerous quiet areas to sit with little tables, chairs and a hammock all at your disposal. There is also another wonderful long wooden table with great views. It catches the gentle afternoon breeze and is perfect for big family lunches outside.

At the end of the gardens is a terraced look-out area with a magnificent view of the Montgo which is hard to beat. Sit here and watch the sunset turn the mountain pink and red while you sip a sundowner and listen to the birds.

Below the pool area is a separate utlities room with washing machine and drier, close to a washing line out of sight from the house and pool.

La Mariposa is a truly unique property in a very special location, only minutes from the beautiful village of Jesus Pobre, and just a ten minute drive from the hubbub of Javea and Denia towns and beaches.

No wonder previous guests have described their stays at La Mariposa as "Magical"...Special"...and "Idyllic"

There is internet access via Starlink which means you can still catch all your TV programmes and your favourite Netflix shows.

Cleaning before and after your stay is included. All linen provided except beach towels. Please bring your own beach towels.

If you would like a mid-stay clean there is an extra charge. Please do ask and this can be booked in for you.

Peaceful haven surrounded by nature
We stayed at Mariposa for 3 weeks, and it was a beautiful tranquil haven to spend a whole day or return to after exploring the wonderful sights (beach towns, hikes, caves and castles around 20 minutes drive away, Valencia an hour.) The villa is traditional Spanish, surrounded by an amazing garden with great pool, lots of different outside sitting, dining and chill out areas, table football and table tennis. We had a fantastic time!

Traumhafte Finca

Peace, tranquility, space aaaaand relax
Each of us enjoyed (party of 7) our time at La Mariposa and the surrounding locality. Fab pool and outside spaces, great traditional property, with resident gekko whom we named Gordon. Well equipped kitchen, spacious lounge and bedrooms, the teenagers enjoyed the books, dvd collection, table football and outdoor darts. Gas barbecue rusty, uninviting and full of water on arrival, charcoal barbecue similar, outdoor pizza oven not in service so ended up cooking indoors mainly, great choice of dining areas indoor and out. Many seating areas, some lovely views. Supermarkets within a few minutes drive. Jesus pobre market (evening in summer) well worth a visit. Great steaks at Gaucho's with complimentary courses included. Beach at Javea vibrant with lots of eateries and opportunities to shop. Great holiday, La Mariposa was a great find, feeling relaxed and smiling as I write this review, well worth a visit! Thanks for sharing your lovely little part of Spain with us.

simply beautiful!
What a find! Stunning villa/finca with everything you want for a relaxing family holiday. We were 2 adults , 2 16 year olds and a 3 year old and there was something for them all. Pool was great and the tree house a hit with the toddler! Village was just a 5 min drive and Javea port was beautiful. Most relaxed we have ever been on a holiday didn't want to come home . Thank you

Dit huis is een echte aanrader. Binnen heel veel ruimte en een fijne keuken om in te verblijven. Buiten is het geweldig. Heel veel verschillende zitjes, veel te doen voor de kinderen en een fijn zwembad. Een top huis!

Fantastic holiday for all the family!
We stayed at the Mariposa in early October and had the most fabulous time. The house is beautiful, full of character and the grounds are breathtaking. You could easily stay here without wanting to leave the house and it's fabulous gardens, however if you did fancy a drive to the local towns and beaches they are no distance. This was a fantastic holiday and we couldn't of chosen a better house to stay in!

a place you will want to go back to
We spent 2 weeks in lLa Mariposa, from Mid until end of September. The villa is full of character, tastefully decorated and providing everything you need for a perfect holiday. The swimming pool is fenced, being separated from the main garden. This makes it considerably safer for young children. We loved the mature gardens, with beautiful flowers, pomegranate, olives and lemon trees. The surrounding area is private and tranquil. La Mariposa is 15 min drive from lovely beaches in Denia and Javea. Both towns have charming old areas and plenty of shops and restaurants. Benidorm , with many options for children entertainment , is less then 40 min drive away. The owner of La Mariposa thought of everything : there are books, DVDs and games for all ages. For those who find the internet vital during a holiday, 3G works really well. We used the maps on iphone for getting around on back rounds in the countryside, there is no need for satnav. We had a great relaxing holiday and fell in love with La Mariposa. We really hope to return one day.

About the host

Damian and I bought this property almost 20 years ago, to have a place in Spain near our Spanish relatives. Damian has a long association with Spain, having visited every summer since he was born.
We lived in La Mariposa ourselves for ten years. Now we rent it out over peak times and visit when we can. Our three children all learnt to swim in the pool. They clambered and played in the tree house ( which we put in specially for them) and still love to roam the grounds and spend endless hours in the pool.

Why they chose this property

There's nothing like it in the area (certainly not available to rent)
We always completely relax and unwind when we are there and our guests say the same thing.
The combination of being able to stay in this hideaway retreat while at the same time being so close to the beaches, bars and restaurants in the area is very special.

What makes this property unique

This is a proper Spanish finca with thick stone walls, old terraccota tiled floors, full length wooden shutters, shaded pergolas, big terraces, long outdoor tables and extensive grounds that roll off into the pine woodland that surrounds the property.
It is a magical retreat.
