About this property

17th Century cottage with mountain views on the outskirts of Cardiff

A 2 bedroom 17th century cottage that has been renovated to a high standard. Situated on the side of Caerphilly mountain, the property has been lovingly restored to offer a sitting room with log burner, fully fitted kitchen with integrated washing machine, dish washer and fridge freezer and dining room. There is a free view flat screen TV in the sitting room. The main bedroom has patio doors leading onto a large private balcony where you can enjoy the spectacular views. Great for walkers. Car is not essential as there is a bus stop 10 yards away. The city of Cardiff is just 15 minutes away. Country pubs in walking distance, 3 golf courses within 5 minutes and the historic 12 century castle situated in Caerphilly town. There is horse riding, bowling, cinemas and zip wire fun all situated nearby. The property benefits from central heating and off road parking. The property is on a MAIN ROAD, with easy access to Cardiff, Caerphilly and surrounding areas. At present there is a small seating area at the rear of the property. The remainder of the land consists of wild flowers, trees and lovely views. There is also a clothes line. Please note that there is an 18th Century graveyard next to the property and a main road to the front of the property so traffic noise is possible. This property is strictly no smoking and is not suitable for pets.

If any guests have symptoms of covid during your stay, please inform us immediately. I will leave black bags in the wardrobe and if you are able could you put your used linen and towels in these when you leave. This would be much appreciated and only added in these circumstances. We live 5 minutes away from Chapel House and will be on hand if you have any questions or concerns during your stay.

December stay
Great homely cottage. Easy access location. Easy 25mins to Cardiff city centre. Clean with cosy bedrooms. Fantastic pubs within 2minute drive, takeaways 5 minute drive. Instant communication with owner Laura. Road can get noisy till 11 at night, but didn't affect our sleep. Just have to bear in mind infants need to stay in bedroom away from roadside. Modern amenities and a warm welcome. Would definitely return.

Cosy cottage in great location
The cottage is well equipped and suited us for a short stay in the area. It doesn't look much from the outside, especially with the chapel next door being empty, but don't let that deter as the inside has been tastefully renovated. There are nice towels and bed linen. Overall a comfortable place to stay.

Beautiful Mountain View
We were arrived to meet a kind welcome gift after struggling somewhat to find the property. However, Laura kindly guided us on the phone until we arrived. The cottage is well equipped and has a stunning view from upstairs. However, the road is uphill and the property is after a bend so cars are driving very fast and the noise can be heard in the living room. The Gruffalo Trail is an absolute must for families with young children. Lots to do within the locality. We love Wales and had never been to Cardiff before, we had a lovely time, thank you Laura.

Hoog boven Caerphilly.

Lovely cottage but noisy road
The property was lovely and exceptionally clean, very spacious. Comfortable beds. 2 lovely balconies looking out at wonderful views and scenery, to sit out the back which were very private. Overall the cottage was lovely. Just the stairs were quite steep, and getting a large suitcase up the stairs was quite difficult. The noisy traffic from the main road was relentless, and spoilt what could have been a very peaceful place.

Cosy Cottage
Property exactly as described, well equipped and was cosy and welcoming. Exceptional views from the terrasses. The birdsong was amazing. Ideally situated to visit Caerphilly and its castle as well as visits to Cardiff and beyond. Excellent communication with the owner from the beginning. Would not hesitate to book this property again if we are in the area

Cozy and comfortable
Chapel House is cozy and comfortable. The location is close to the Caerphilly center and was a great base for us to explore Wales. The parking was sometimes a little intense but even though the road in front of the house was often busy the house itself is well insulated and very quiet. Laura the host was very nice and responsive. Overall a great stay and we recommend.

Chapel House was perfect experience
So much better than a hotel due to it’s rustic but modern charm. Close to Careaphilly and anywhere in the area. Stayed 11 nights and never slept better. Very clean and well maintained property with great views. Lastly Laura was very accessible for questions and wanted us enjoy our stay while celebrating our grandsons wedding.

Charming cottage on outskirts of Caerphilly
We enjoyed a few days in a very cold February in this charming, characterful, warm and cosy cottage. It was well equipped with a modern kitchen and shower room, comfortable bed and effective central heating. The property is on a busy main road and the traffic was audible in the front facing lounge and twin bedroom. The traffic noise in the double bedroom at the rear of the property was barely audible, did not affect our sleeping, and had lovely views across the valley to Caerphilly and the adjacent wooded hills. Communication with our hosts was excellent.

Lovely cottage
We were looking for a place to stay when visiting Cardiff to watch the rugby. Hotels in Cardiff are always expensive and this cottage seemed ideal for our needs. It was a very easy 7 mile journey into Cardiff. The cottage itself is larger than appears on the website. Downstairs the lounge, kitchen and dining room are all ample size and the kitchen is very well stocked with washing machine and dishwasher. Only used the double bedroom but the twin room seemed very comfortable as well. The outside balcony seemed lovely with great views but didn’t managed to sit there as the weather wasn’t so great. Great communication from the owner. Highly recommended. A real gem.

Lovely location a little isolated but only a short drive to many places, great base
The house was very nicely set out, we had a jam packed weekend so we didn’t spend long in the property. Not being a family the shared toilet shower by connecting doors was interesting, the stairs were very steep so not great for older people but we managed fine, not all taxis could find the property but the local company managed ok. Traffic was a little noisy as it was a high speed road outside that wasn’t too much of a worry as we didn’t have very young children with us, Laura the owner was lovely and checked in on us on the phone to check we had everything, this property has everything you need for a home away from home.

Quaint cottage
Photos reflect the cottage well. It has a nice feel and was well equipped. Cosy lounge with good sized kitchen and dining area. It is a little out of Caerphilly and up a hill, so a car is best. Enjoyed Caerphilly more than expected. Easy to pop on the train to central Cardiff. Lovely views out of the back of the property. The only real drawback was the noise from passing traffic.

We have been married for 33 years and have 3 children. We are both lecturers in the education system. Having renovated our own home we take a keen interest in old unloved properties and bringing them back to life once more.

Why they chose this property

I fell in love with Chapel House as soon as I saw the original bread oven and the Christmas tree in the garden. David, on the other hand, took a little more persuading. I watched Homes under the Hammer before attending the auction with my daughter and came home that evening as the proud owner of this wonderful property. However, it needed a lot of TLC. Over the following 18 months we replaced the roof, installed a log burner, central heating and complete rewiring to create a luxurious place to stay. We thought long and hard about the best layout for a holiday let and are very proud of the end result.

What makes this property unique

The stunning views of Caerphilly mountain and the surrounding area can be enjoyed from the personal balcony, leading from the main bedroom.
There are numerous walks/activities in the area, many of which are detailed on
Caerphilly town is just 15 minutes walk or you can catch the bus which will get you there in 5 minutes. The bus stop for Caerphilly is located directly opposite the front door of Chapel House.

Caerphilly Castle
Like the famous cheese, the castle has long been synonymous with Caerphilly.
This 12th century castle, surrounded by a series of moats and watery islands was the brainchild of Gilbert ‘the Red’ de Clare, a redheaded nobleman of Norman descent. He also built the original Castell Coch, ‘Red Castle’, located the other side of Caerphilly mountain.

Cardiff is only 15minutes away by car, bus or train.
