Living room with fireplace has great view of SB Bay. Our two cats, Luna and Bowie, are daytime outdoor and nighttime indoor, easy to befriend and feed. Additional cats negotiable but please no other pets. Monthly rate has been discounted for tenants who enjoy a more personal atmosphere and interact with cats beyond just feeding them (pet supplies paid by owner). Rent includes all utilities plus internet, Wi-Fi, cable TV, copier/printer/fax, all standard appliances, house cleaning service, gardener. Ideally we are looking for one party to live here for the entire 3-month period but will also consider candidates for shorter periods of 30 days or more.
Guest Access
Entire home and garden are accessible to guests. Only the garage is off limits but there is plenty of off-street (as well as on-street) parking.
Interaction with Guests:
We will enjoy introducing you to the home but then will be in Berlin Germany during your stay. However, a delightful rental manager will be available if there are questions or issues.
The Neighborhood:
Our neighborhood is quiet, with friendly, considerate neighbors who do not party loudly but fully accept sporadic outside events at our home. Nature abounds on our hill and ridge, giving our area a country feel, but the location is perfect for walking or biking to town, beaches, top of 'TV Hill', nearby nature preserve, or by car effortlessly accessing freeway and downtown. A perfect balance of stay-at-home retreat for work or play and being close to the action of ocean activities, restaurants, the 'Funk Zone' wineries and eateries, and much more!
Getting around:
Off-street parking for at least 3 cars in our driveway. 3-min. drive to 101 freeway, with airport and UCSB 12 min. north, LA 90 min. south. Nice walks on quiet streets to beach, harbor, town, top of 'TV Hill', nature preserve canyon. 3-5 min. drive or bike ride to downtown. Bus stop 3 min walk away.
Other Things to Note:
Our home is embellished with many personal art pieces and souvenirs from theatre productions and travels in Europe, ie it is not as neutrally generic as some rentals. But all who visit experience this as part of its charm, and we hope you will too!
Please feel free to contact for more info about us and our home, and so we can answer any questions you may have.
House Rules:
#1: Enjoy your stay!
#2: We have put many years of loving thought and care into details of house and garden, so we trust our guests to appreciate and respect this.
#3: Please give our two cats some loving attention in addition to feeding them.
#4: Although gardener will maintain outdoor plants, watering of indoor plants as needed would be appreciated.

About the host
Hosted by Peter Lackner

As a theatre director I was Chair and Director of Theatre at the UCSB Theatre/Dance Department for many years, and am now a freelance director. My wife Barbara is a theatre costume designer. We live and work part time in Santa Barbara, part time Berlin Germany. This has been our home since 1991, and its many details reflect this history of both our work and play, as well as our passion for art and crafts.
Why they chose this property
This is an ideal perch for a perfect and varied vacation. A quiet and secluded setting from which to enjoy spectacular views, but conveniently close to all sorts of 'action' - the harbor area offering boat, kayak, paddleboard, jetski, etc. rentals and great restaurants, secluded beaches, mountain hikes, downtown shopping, galleries, museums, the 'Funk Zone' with new wineries, microbreweries and eateries, and much more, just a walk, bike ride or 3 minute drive away! And then come home to a Jacuzzi and sunbathing on a secluded lawn, or relaxing on our view deck or in the shade of our circus-inspired awnings. Our indoor/outdoor kitchen faces the optimal view, so every meal and snack and happy hour can be a new delight.
What makes this property unique
The charm of our place lies in its history as the home of a creative couple working in the theatre and arts for the last 4 decades. We remodeled and embellished the house with imaginative and loving care, adding the perfect view deck with spiral staircase, the amazing live-in kitchen, the office/studio space with double glass door connecting it to the living room for more free and dynamic activities. With the living room, kitchen and front terraces being the hub of activities, three secluded bedrooms are perfect for that invaluable power nap. The large lot - almost 1/2 acre - provides a green buffer on all sides, with utter privacy and quiet.
