About this property

Casa Luna ~ Charming Vintage Cabin Retreat on the River, Spa, Dog Friendly!

Enjoy the romance of Casa Luna, a vintage riverfront cabin on the Russian River. This home features the charm of the 1940s era in which it was built, but has the comfort of modern appliances. Casa Luna offers hardwood floors, a high wood-beam ceiling, brick fireplace, the warmth of old knotty pine paneled walls and a country kitchen with a view of the river.

Enjoy the wonderfully expansive and private deck that wraps around two sides of the house and overlooks your own private meadow sloping down to the river. Wildflowers bloom late into the summer here. Relax in the hot tub and romantic outdoor shower surrounded by the privacy of majestic redwoods and the fragrance of bay trees. Stroll down the path through the meadow to the water's edge and enjoy a private floating river dock and canoe and paddleboat. (Available mid-June through mid-September.)

Casa Luna's amenities include a fully equipped kitchen with 5 burner gas range and convection oven, new dishwasher, recently remodeled Italian tile bathroom, bed and bath linens, romantic hot water outdoor shower surrounded by redwoods and adjacent to a large hot tub, comfortable deck lounge furniture and gas barbecue, a clothes washer, dryer and safe off-road parking. The house is conveniently located minutes from the towns of Guerneville, Rio Nido and Duncan Mills. All three towns offer shopping, restaurants, movies, public river beaches, as well as canoe and kayak rentals. Northwood Golf Course and Pee Wee Golf are only a few minutes away. The Pacific Ocean and stunning Sonoma Coast are a lovely 20 minute drive away.

Casa Luna is a non-smoking house and is dog friendly. The fully-fenced deck provides lots of space for a dog to soak up the sun and lounge. Your well-behaved mature dog is most welcome! Casa Luna features a keyless entry system, meaning you will have the convenience of an express check-in directly at the home!

Know Before You Book:

Maximum Occupancy and Quiet Hours: The maximum occupancy at Casa Luna is 5. Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. Outdoor amplified sound is prohibited at any time.

Parking: There is space in the driveway for 2 cars. RVs, trailers and campers are prohibited, per the Sonoma County Vacation Rental Ordinance.

Bed Sizes: First bedroom: Queen bed, Second bedroom: Double bed, Living room: Double futon

Heat Source: Propane wall heater, wood burning fireplace (no firewood or kindling provided).

A/C: The house does not have air conditioning. Being near the coast, the night time temps drop and just opening some windows is usually enough to cool the house.

Docks & Boats: Docks and beaches are seasonal only and available from mid-June to mid-September providing the summer dams are in. Canoes and kayaks are provided in some of our homes and are available from mid-June to mid-September only. The river is usually too swift for boating in the winter and many docks and beaches are under water until late spring.

Summer Rotation Day: Saturday
During the Peak Season, which runs end of June through August, Casa Luna has a 7 night minimum and rents on a Saturday to Saturday pattern. If you make an online reservation outside of this rotation day requirement, we may contact you about altering your dates.

Rustic Charm in a Beautiful and Relaxing Setting
We loved our stay at Casa Luna. The place is fully equipped, with a great kitchen and a fantastic BBQ Grill on the deck. Two kayaks and a canoe tied up to the private dock were perfect (we did have to call management to bring the canoe down to the dock from storage, but they responded in less than an hour!). The deck is fantastic -- with a great view of the river through the trees. WE enjoyed the hot tub, as well. Clean and set to a perfect temperature, with an outdoor shower next to it to rinse off the chlorine. The deck is in shade most of the day, so the heat was not an issue. The house is very dark, as it has a northern exposure and is surrounded by tall trees. It could use better lighting -- even during the day -- in the kitchen and living area. Also, the front screen door was missing the latch, so it could not be shut securely, and there is no screen door for the rear slider. Not a deal killer, but something that needs to be taken care of. The property management group was excellent -- friendly and responsive. Advice to guests -- bring your own kitchen pantry staples. Pretty much only salt and pepper provided, and a bit of canola oil. The coffee maker does not work well -- not all of the grounds are wet by the hot water. We solved the issue by pouring the brewed pot of coffee over the dry grounds mid-way through brewing cycle.

Terrific stay
This is a great home away from home. The only suggestions i have would be to make the seating area near the water a bit more appealing (clean the lounge chairs and offer cushions) and improve the bedding...our pillows were hard and the second bed was too small and sagging. Otherwise - perfection! Great view and access to the beach. Everthing we needed in the kitchen.

Cute & cozy... hot tub is a ringer
The place was nice and toasty when we arrived, which we very much appreciated because it was cold out. Nice and clean with everything labeled. Wish we would have been informed about the tap water, don’t drink it. Bring your own water. Shower was great! One of the rooms is pretty freezing, there were only 2 of us so we didn’t use it. Hot tub was nice and clean! This place is very close to other houses so there’s not much privacy, especially from the patio. Nice easy walk from the backyard to the river. Thank you for a nice stay.

Very clean & Wonderful Property Manager!
We stayed for a week in this cute house. Location of this house was an excellent! Easy spacious parking, clean, nice layout, very quiet surrounding, convenient for grocery shopping (Safeway store & our favorite Taco Truck there too!) and had everything we need for cooking. (Just minor thing was that living room seemed a little bit dark for our taste even during the day time, but had enough lamps, so may be fine for a vacation). However, it actually might helped cooling during the hot weather??. So, I don't complain. What we loved this house the most was a "Huge Wraps around Balcony" and that was the most relaxing area under the red wood trees over looking the river. Very serene and peaceful. We didn't use Hot Tub this time. May be next time. Additionally, we were so lucky to see two (mother and child) Deers came into the backyard. They weren't scared us at all. They stayed there quite a long time eating some plants and we enjoyed watching them from the balcony. They were so cute! Another great thing about this house was having a great property management crew of Russian Vacation Rental Office! Especially, we were so grateful for Ms. Ellen Deproto who helped us during our stay. When we decided to take a paddle boat, found out that mechanical part of paddles was already broken. (We wished that any former renters notified this Paddle Boat problem to the property manager for future guests.) We contacted a property office about it and many thanks to Ellen, she arranged to lend us their unused spare Kayak to replace broken paddle boat for our week. Her quick response & kindness made us so happy and full filled our satisfaction even more! And many thanks to this home owner, Cristina & Jeff who share their lovely house with many guests. Thank you so much! Our little pooch, named "LUNA" also enjoyed very much with us too! The Born Family/San Jose, CA

Beautiful Relaxing Cabin!
The view from the dining room table was breathtaking with fall foliage and view of the river. The furniture and art on the wall contributed to the relaxing atmosphere. The heart of the cabin for us was its fireplace. We spent Thanksgiving here and loved it.

Could've been great
Overall, the cabin was good. It's cozy, clean, well-equipped, and warm for myself with visiting family. However, there's were 3 issues that prevented it from being great. 1) The information for renters is a bit overwhelming and spread out over a manual, a stapled packet, various placards and a welcome envelope. For example, there were multiple warnings to put the trash cans out for pickup or be charged a fee, but none of the warnings said when trash day is.... Only after much searching through all the paperwork did I find a placard posted in the kitchen (it's Thursday, btw). Also, if you want to use the fireplace, neither the house manual or the packet offers sufficient directions. There's a easy-to-miss inscription on the chimney flue chain to "pull 3 inches and release." I suggest the owners simplify and consolidate all the necessary information into one place to save future renters the stress of figuring out the basics. 2) The hot tub was hot, but the smell of chlorine was overpowering and remained on our skin even after we showered. As such, we only used it once. Perhaps it can be kept clean and sanitary with less cleaning chemical? 3) The mattress in the second bedroom is very bad. It was like sleeping in a hammock because it sagged so much. This was most disappointing, and I wouldn't return unless it was replaced.

Loved it!
Casa Luna was so comfortable and we had everything we needed to make an awesome weekend. We felt like we were staying at a friend's house. We love to cook and grill, and found everything we needed in the kitchen. The deck and the trees were beautiful - we are bird watchers and we were in heaven watching the ospreys :)Beds were super comfy, and the area is so nice and quiet. I removed one star because the hot tub was actually too hot to sit in, and we were not able to adjust it lower, and there was no extra toilet paper anywhere - we had to go buy more. It was technically 'off season' when we were there, so the boats and kayaks were not available, but the unseasonably warm weather made us really want to use them! You might consider boat use by weather, not by date!

Lovely little hidden gem
We stayed for two nights in this little hidden cabin. Everything was impeccable. Every little detail is thought out and the location is very convenient. My only complaint would be that there aren't a lot of dining locations near by. But overall we would totally go back and stay there!

Perfect Memorial Day Weekend
We had an amazing time at Casa Luna. The house was private but close to town if we needed. The river access was the best we've had compared to the many other rentals we've stayed at along the river. The house had almost everything we needed. The one and only thing we needed that they didn't provide was beach towels. They provide towels for showers but they make a point to ask you not to bring their towels to the river or to the beach so make sure to bring your own beach towels. The kitchen was stocked with all the essentials but there were also many things left behind from other people that may come in handy. There was even some booze left over! There were tons of river toys in the garage for our use. There really is no need to bring your own things for the river. We ended up renting a kayak because that's what we wanted but the other couple we were with used one of the canoe's they provided. There was also a paddle boat along with some other random things. The grill worked very well (made us want to go home and replace ours) and the washer and dryer was a nice bonus so we could go home with clean, dry clothes. The best part was definitely the large patio. There was plenty of seating for lounging, a nice picnic table for eating at, and the hot tub was awesome to warm up in when needed. The 4 of us and our dog had an excellent time. I'd like to keep this place our little secret but since that's not going to happen, I'd recommend this place to anyone and we will definitely be staying here again.

Casa luna - great location and private
We really enjoyed Casa Luna. The location was wonderful close to Guerneville. The water on the river however, was very low not very enjoyable. The house was a little dark but, very clean and nice.

We are Russian River Vacation Homes, a part of D&G Equity Management, Inc., a family owned and locally owned/operated property management company.

Our Story:
In 1980, D&G founders and owners Michael and Patty saw a need in the area for habitable, affordable housing. At that time, many of the little cabins along the Russian River, originally built as summer cabins, were unsuitable for year-round occupancy. D&G assisted property owners with fixing up and renting their cabins. As the largest property management company in western Sonoma County, D&G Equity Management continues to be a staple in the Russian River community.

Russian River Vacation Homes is an off-shoot of D&G. One fine day in 1985, Michael's client, Bob, asked "Hey Mike, can you rent my cabin out just for the week or weekend instead of by the month?" Michael said "Sure!" and Russian River Vacation Homes was born. As renting vacation rentals became more popular, Russian River Vacation Homes grew into a full-time business with its own office. Today, Russian River Vacation Homes professionally manages over 60 high-quality vacation rentals.

We strive to make each and every stay the best one ever. If you have any questions or concerns about reserving or staying with us, please don't hesitate to contact us! We are here to help.

Why they chose this property

Guerneville is the largest town on the Russian River, and has a variety of excellent restaurants and shopping. There are many wineries within 15-20 minutes. Guerneville is also home to the amazing Armstrong Woods, and it's just a quick drive out to the coast! Guerneville is a fun and free spirited town that makes for a great getaway!

Neeley Road (the road Casa Luna is located on) is the main residential road on this side of the river. Neeley Road roughly follows down river and Drake Road follows up river. On the opposite side, River Road generally parallels the Russian River (and former rail line) to the coast. This residential section of Guerneville is often referred to as Neeley for the road, named for the Neeley family – many generations of whom have lived and still live in Guerneville. The neighborhood also once hosted many resorts and campgrounds. A few still remain, but most have separated into individual homes, vacation homes and groups of small cabins.

What makes this property unique

From the Owners:
As children and teenagers, both of us – before we knew each other - enjoyed spending summer days on the Russian River. Later, as a couple, we often canoed the river and reminisced about our happy memories of being kids on the river and enjoyed looking at all the riverside homes we drifted by wishing we owned one.

On one such trip, we viewed a few homes for sale – just for fun. We saw Casa Luna that day and although we couldn’t get into the house, we fell in love with the beautiful deck surrounded by majestic redwood trees and the lovely green meadow meandering down to the river’s edge. Before I knew it, we made an offer and I could only say in shock – “Did we just buy a house?!?” We have never regretted it.

At the time, the house was called Anna Villa and was managed by the same company – Russian River Vacation Homes. We renamed it Casa Luna (Moon House) for a beautiful, romantic home we enjoyed in Zihuatanejo, Mexico of the same name.

We’ve loved bringing our dogs and friends here ever since.
