A cold June

With June being cold and wet the beautifully renovated cottage with all modern amenities, including underfloor heating, was just fantastic. Parking in the small drive was not possible - so the village car park was necessary for both cars - and for us the bed was too small, but these are minor issues with an otherwise fantastic property and a great holiday.

Beautiful Devon cottage, 3 miles from Salcombe

A tastefully decorated cottage, in a small but busy village with all the amenities you could ask for, 2 pubs, small Co-op and lots of walks you can do on the doorstep to beautiful coves, which I suspect get busy in the summer holiday period. Local buses were also plentiful and took you right into Salcombe or further afield if required, meaning less driving down the narrow lanes! The cottage had everything we required and was very dog friendly, the little paw wash, towels and dog treats are a lovely touch.

Gorgeous cottage in great location!

The cottage was lovely and exactly as depicted in photos. Very clean and super location. 10 mins into Salcombe, Hope Cove, Millsands, North and South Sands and only a half hour from Dartmouth and lots of other places. Perfect location for exploring area. A lot of thought and effort has gone into the details in this property. The decor is modern and tasteful and plenty of space for our family to relax. The Kitchen well supplied with everything you would need including cleaning products, as well as a great gas bbq in the garden. Even a coffee machine (don’t forget the pods!) The welcome bottle of wine and biscuits were a nice tough as was the little doggy bag for our pooch. The bedrooms were very comfortable too and accommodated our adult family of 6 well. Quality toiletries were also appreciated. Nice snug downstairs with a PlayStation and lots of board games and dvds provided too as well as good Wifi. The manager Freya was very helpful answering a few queries we had. All in all a great week in a lovely property and we will definitely return when visiting the area again. The only points to note are the stairs are quite steep so not for those with mobility problems and the garden area is not fenced off so you need to be vigilant with dogs and little ones.

Lovely cottage

Simply a stunning cottage in a lovely location. Very well stocked kitchen and great communication and help from the owners. Fran went out of her way to ensure we had a high chair etc. For our 2 year old. The ‘playroom’ and Xbox were a great addition. Showers were fab and the property was simply stunning. Thank you

Overall a good break

The property is exactly as listed and true to photographs. It has been renovated to a high standard with good quality fittings throughout. We had a couple of issues during the stay. On arrival the general waste bin was overflowing with nappies. For some reason no recycling bags are offered which would elevate this issue and be more environmentally friendly. It appeared that the council collection routine had changed that the owner was not aware of as not local. The solution offered was to use the bin of another property which was also full. Unfortunately In the end we had to go in and empty one of the bins to remove and flatten cardboard packaging and remove recyclable materials. Not great during a covid crisis On arrival we found a hedgehog drowning in an uncovered drain. He was rescued and taken to the nearest wildlife hospital. However, this was difficult to arrange as there is no mobile coverage at the property.... good Wi-fi for FaceTime/ WhatsApp calls but obviously this isn’t an option for new/ landline phone numbers. We constructed a drain cover from a roof tile but the open drains need addressing by the owner. On cleanliness we discovered a babies bottle by the side of one bed. Not that great for summer 2020. The BBQ was also dirty and the fat reservoir full. We knew to clean this area as we have the same BBQ at home but more guidance needs to be provided in the house pack. Also the outside table was dirty as the cover was split. This was replaced during the week by the owner. The owner says cleaning is not covered by the housekeeping but we have stayed in many rental properties and never been responsible for cleaning the BBQ. We understand changing beds and putting out waste during the current situation but not cleaning a BBQ Finally, we had a nasty surprise on returning home. We were charged for two broken items that we did not break. They were a chipped bowl and plate. Both were chipped already. There is no detailed inventory for the property and we were given no chance to respond as to wether these has been our fault. This left rather a sour taste at the end of holiday. We experienced some “ local angst” during the week. One neighbour is particular was quite rude. However generally most local ( especially those of working age) were welcoming. The car parking was a bit of an issue with the committee seeking to be on a vendetta against vehicles parked there. They don’t seem to be clamping yet though!

Fabulously appointed cottage

Amazing decor and absolutely everything we needed for our 7 night holiday. If you like to cook the kitchen has everything you need. Perfect for family dining and games after dinner. Great location just outside of Salcombe. Would highly recommend the park and ride facility if you are planning a day in Salcombe. The butchers at Ashbys has amazing steak which we cooked on the barbecue. Easy access to all the wonderful beaches in the area. Parking at the village hall was no problem and was very easy to drop off and pick up luggage.

Moonraker dream cottage

We had a perfect holiday from begin to end. This was very much down to how much the owner has thought about every need so well in every detail. The cottage was immaculate and the local area at Salcombe, Lydford Gorge, Hope Cove and Walkers Cottage mean we didnt want to leave. Definately recommend. Also the pub behind The Old Inn is highly recommended with lovely food and atmosphere.

Lovely clean house

The house is wonderful. Recently refurbished to a high standard, it is stunning inside and out. Layout is excellent, with a useful utility room with washer and dryer. Downstairs cloakroom and a great kitchen/diner/lounge. Also a cool snug with a PS4, which our children loved. Three great double rooms upstairs. The only comment I would make is that it may have been slightly more flexible to have a pair of single beds in place of one of the doubles, but the rooms are excellent. There is a shed and has BBQ out the back. I found the outside tap handy for washing wetsuits and body boards down. Washing line out there also. Sadly the drive is too narrow for almost all cars, so we parked up at the village hall car park, which is a 5 minute stroll away. Handy petrol station with well-stocked supermarket is by the village hall. Worth dropping the bags at the house before parking though (road is quiet by the property). There is a frequent bus service passing through the village between Kingsbridge and Salcombe. Kingsbridge has a a couple of big supermarkets. We used Bantham beach most days which is 15 minutes away and is great for surfing and boarding. £6.50 parking there. I highly recommend this property.

Immaculate

The cottage is tucked away in a picturesque narrow lane in Marlborough village. The village boasts two pubs, a well stocked CoOp and a post office; it's charming (surrounding developments rather less so). It was great for us walkers, with the coastal delights of Salcombe nearby (you can even walk there from the cottage). Kingsbridge is a short drive away and well worth a visit. The cottage is beautifully presented, furnished to a high standard. It was the ideal setting for a Christmas break, with almost everything we needed. At rentals go, it's definitely a cut above the rest.

A beautiful cottage for a relaxing holiday

Moonrakers is a wonderful cottage in a quiet village with good access to a new area to us, the Salcombe and Kingsbridge peninsular. After a busy year, we were all looking forward to a relaxing break, and we were not disappointed. The cottage is beautifully restored and furnished, with everything needful, and more, provided. It was like arriving at a luxury hotel, with crisp linen, towels, toiletries, welcome pack with cream tea, and kitchen pack. the spacious cottage was spotlessly clean but also comfortable and welcoming. We could therefore relax both in the cottage and when out visiting Salcombe and the nearby coast and beaches, just what we needed. What did I enjoy most? - making a morning coffee, the amazing starry night sky, and oversleeping in the mornings as it was so quiet!

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

This stunning cottage is everything as advertised plus a whole lot more. It is situated in a most beautiful location which is convenient for Salcombe, Overbecks, Bolberry, Hope Cove, Thurlestone, North and South Sands, Soarmill cove etc etc and all the other amazing beaches and coastal walks. The cottage has been restored beautifully and is full of thoughtful features which made the stay even more enjoyable. There is a pub within 1 minute walk that does good pub food and a well-stocked COOP 3 mins walk away. I could go on and on but suffice to say we very much hope to stay there again!

MOONRAKERS -WHAT A DELIGHT!

Dear Sarah I must say that I can think of very little that can be done to improve the stay at Moonrkers. We were so delighted with the cottage, and the lengths that you went to, to make our stay more enjoyable were terrific! You know, we carted Christmas decorations, a couple of trees albethey small ones, and decorations for the cottage and were amazed to find that they were already in place! Little things like that set the tone for what was a very pleasant experience. We were a bit disappointed with the weather, but then the whole of the UK was a bit boxed in with that. Let us just dwell on the weather for a moment. It was very wet over Christmas and the addition of a collapsible clothes horse might have made the washing experience (we were 8 in the cottage) a little easier but it was no big deal. During the summer of course, when the clothes line can be used, this comment will cease to be relevant! As for the parking, I think my son and I met most of the village at the village hall busy recycling; a very friendly group they seemed, and the arrangements there were very good and caused no inconvenience at all. Regarding the hat, thank you for your note, if you could sent it to me at: 8 Thirlmere Avenue Acklam MIDDLESBROUGH TS5 7DA I would be most grateful. I am sure we will talk again - perhaps soon. Kind regards Peter Crane

Superb 300 year old cottage, renovated to an excellent standard in a great village location

My partner and I together with her daughter and 7 month old son stayed at the cottage from the 7-16th September 2017 and enjoyed a fantastic week exploring the wonderful countryside and coastal areas around Marlborough and South Hams. The cottage had everything you would need for the stay. There are great walks along the South West Coastal route, super beaches at Bantham, Blackpool Sands and Hope Cove to visit and an excellent choice of local restaurants to try. We would certainly recommend Moonrakers Cottage and would have no hesitation in booking again if we return to South Devon. Ken, Linda, Jenny and Finley from York, North Yorkshire.
