About this property

Secluded Manor house with pool surrounded by spectacular countryside views

Surrounded by acres of private grounds, mature trees and wonderful vistas around every corner, Chapeau is the ideal place to get away from it all.
Enter through the gates, along the winding wooded drive and leave the outside world behind you. This idyllic rural location is peaceful and private, yet just a five minute stroll to the local village past the neighbouring medieval chateau.
The local village offers a small general store which sells fresh bread/ croissants etc from local boulangeries, a delicatessen selling locally produced meat, 2 traditional French restaurants, one with a small bar.
There is also a village tennis court available for use.
The private pool receives the sun all day and the terraces are positioned to provide the choice between sun or natural shade.
There are large wooden tables with benches and chairs for eating al fresco in the warm summer evenings and you can choose to cook on the coal BBQ or if you're feeling adventurous, the wood pizza oven.
The manor house has retained it's authentic french interior with all of the quirks this brings, from sloping wooden floors to colourful bathrooms and rustic outside areas.
The spacious accommodation is beautifully furnished and well equipped. There are 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms in the main house, with a maximum occupancy of 13.

Please note that we live in a converted barn next to the house.

Holiday in Dordogne
Very clean and well equipped property. Well maintained pool in very attractive setting. Close to the village with shop and bar. Good shaded outside area for eating. A couple of niggles - weren't expecting to pay extra for house towels. We had the pool heated for the second week as we had a toddler staying but the temperature didn't seem to rise much for the extra 50euros. The outside cushions were definitely passed their best. Overall a good place to stay with very helpful owners.

Fabulous stay
We had the most wonderful stay with Jennifer and Tim. The property is located in a charming village with picturesque views and a stunning pool. The house has lots of different areas so even though we were a lot of people we never felt that we were getting on top of each other. Tim and Jennifer were so helpful and kind and always happy to answer questions. We highly recommend Chapeau!

a wonderful stay
Upon arrival we immediately felt at home and personally I fell a little bit in love with this beautiful property. You will find in Jennifer and Tim (and daughters) wonderful hosts who will make sure you will have a splendid stay. The pool is excellent ( we played a lot of volleybal) we loved sitting in the grand kitchen at night (as it was still a bit cold outside) and play games and relax. The pizzaoven: YES!! Absolute must-do! The house has a lot of character and you may notice here and there that it has been around for quite some time but for us that added to our 10 out of 10 experience we had as a group. We could not have picked a better place to celebrate life with my parents, brothers and family.

Lovely house, pool and owners
Even though we rented in late september, the owners went out of their way to heat the pool and give us some swim days. Also came up with a heater for the 3 year olds room. Charming house.

A Great Week Away
Thank you Jennifer & Tim for a great week in your lovely property. We travelled with two other families & enjoyed a great week in this quieter part of the Dordogne. The property provided everything which we were looking for & has some great outdoor areas including the well-sized pool. The week passed all too quickly & we were all sorry to be leaving after what seemed like such a short time!

Birthday celebrations
Delightful owners, most helpful. Spacious, just what we required for a family gathering. I loved the big tables inside and out around which we could eat and chat. The pool was just what we needed. The upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms were excellent but the downstairs bathroom was disappointing. There were so many books, dvds records and games available it was quite astonishing. The village boulangerie is within easy walking distance

Fantastic house and location
This house is perfect for large groups of which ours consisted of 11 adults, 4 children and 1 baby. The owners have considered all eventualities providing lots of games and activities for the kids including bikes, football, badminton, trampoline, table tennis and an awesome swimming pool that offers incredible views over the region. The house is clean, tidy and well maintained with good sized rooms with plenty of outdoor spaces for eating and drinking into the evening. The owners (Tim and Jennifer) were extremely accommodating throughout the entire booking process and we’re always on hand to provide any help and advice about the local area and days out. We will definitely be back!! Thanks very much.

4 Families on holiday together
Amazing 2 weeks! Party of 8 adults and 7 teenagers. So much to do at the wonderfully appointed Chapeaux from the large warm swimming pool to archery, boules, table tennis, the list seemed endless. Even the teenagers didn't spend all day on their iPads or phones. Tim and Jennifer made us very welcome. From our initial enquiry to our stay we were given lots of information about the property and what to do and where to go. Chapeau itself has so much to offer, each room is individual with everything we could possibly need for our 2 week stay. We had wonderful hot weather, but there was a huge selection of books, games and DVDs if we had stayed indoors. A large group of friends together, plenty of crockery and pans for our use. Lots to do in the local area too, we visited 3 different lakes, all offering a selection of sports, and all lovely and warm for swimming. We went karting at 2 different venues, the caves at Tourtoirac were incredible, along with visiting Perigueux and Sarlat and of course the chateau at Hautefort. We visited the village boulangerie every morning for our fresh croissants and bread, along with visiting the Intermache at Hautefort which sold everything we needed for our stay. So sad to leave our wonderful holiday home at the end of our 2 weeks, we will return!

A wonderful place, for all the family
We had a brilliant family holiday at the Chapeaux. Our two boys (10 & 12) had lots of do - pool, table tennis, archery, boules (now a new favourite) and the nearby inflatable on the lake were a huge hit. This meant I had lots of time for me! I loved the nearby village for a quiet coffee in the morning, the peaceful pool area and reading the terrace with a cold drink or two! The generous hospitality of the hosts Jen and Tim also made it a holiday to remember. A wonderful place to make wonderful memories.

Fantastic house and holiday in wonderful place
Our party of 13 came to stay at Le Chapeau for a week in August. We were celebrating a couple of 50ths and had a selection of kids and teens in tow ranging from 6 to 14. I can honestly say that a week wasn't long enough to sample all the house had to offer. We never had time to play the vinyl or all the games and books and magazines in both the sitting room and TV room but lots of our party enjoyed practising the piano and guitar when no one was listening! We also only scratched the surface of what was available in the region. We visited a great market on the Sunday, went to stunning caves at Tourtoirac, did Go ape type thing one day and visited Hauteforte. All recommended. We had mixed weather - some scorching, some cloud, some rain - but most days we managed to spend some quality sunbathing time round the pool, which was large enough to accommodate all 13 of us on occasion. Our favourite pastimes were competitive inflatable unicorn jumping (!); cooking BBQs and pizzas and chatting around the large terrace; table tennis; trampolining for kids and finding nature we hadn't expected such as baby bats and lizards and hummingbird moths. We were also really lucky to have two nights of shooting stars. Magical! The house is very well appointed. Decor is traditional and a bit retro in places but very charming and brimming with character. And cool and comfortable even on the hottest days. The only slight issue for us was the lack of an ensuite for the downstairs four-poster double - you have to use the shower and loo off the kitchen down the hall. But it certainly didn't hamper our enjoyment. We just shared the lovely upstairs bathrooms with the couple in that room. Our hosts, Jen and Tim, were extremely helpful and welcoming and it was lovely sharing a drink with them on the last night and hearing of how they came to own Le Chapeau. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt very able to ask them anything when we needed to. In fact Jen and i were in regular contact right from booking up to our stay. The village has two lovely restaurants. We enjoyed a fab set meal at L' Estaminet and went to the bakers or shop pretty much every day, and the supermarket in Hauteforte regularly. I'd thoroughly recommend a stay at Le Chapeau for any group of people and would love to come back some day soon. A bientot!

Well equipped elegant house
We had a wonderful stay at The Chapeau with our group ranging from 1 year old to 81 years old, plus our little terrier Henrik. The house was very well equipped with something to keep everyone entertained (swimming, archery, piano, chess, extensive book and record collection to name but a few), and to all get together for a huge meal if desired - I don't think I have ever seen so much crockery/cutlery in a house before, so no chance of running out. Tim and Jennifer were on-hand to help whenever we needed but also left us to our own devices. They offered a very reasonable babysitting and taxi service to the airport which was invaluable in this remote part of France. They also offered us help when our car broke down - we really could not have asked for more. Once we were back up and running with the car we were able to sample the excellent food in Hautefort which really was delicious. Our dog enjoyed exploring the grounds, which are very safe as there are no main roads in the vicinity and Tim and Jennifer's dog Poppy was very welcoming and happy to let our dog pretend he owned the place! Thank you Tim and Jennifer for a wonderful break in the French countryside.

Idyllic characterful family house
We had a fantastic stay at Chapeau, which is a really special place with stunning views and acrural charm. There was something for everyone in our mixed age family group. The swimming pool and the outdoor terrace are fantastic and the house had plenty of space for our group of 11. Tim and Jennifer were great hosts always ready to help if we needed anything. The village is a short walk with a lovely restaurant, a shop and boulangerie. All in all a memorable family holiday!
