About the host
Your host

I'm married to my lovely Mexican wife Maria who I've met through Airbnb when I was traveling through Mexico. How cute things can get :). Together we run 2 holiday houses in Ypres while my mum takes care of a holiday cottage in Handzame near Diksmuide.
The 2 houses in Ypres were bought a few years ago and have been completely renovated afterwards. We all have a social virus and are open for a good chat on local history and life in general.
So far we have had the pleasure getting hundreds of visitors from allover the world who stayed 1 night to 7 weeks even.
On a personal side I co-run the record label Alfa Matrix producing, releasing and distributing the music from over 40 bands including FRONT 242, RECOIL, PSY'AVIAH, AYRIA and many many more. Next to that I also am the chief editor of the online magazine Side-Line informing about industrial and electro music news, and that since 1999. And finally I also run a website on Hergé's compagnon Bob De Moor who played a big role in the Tintin albums since the early 50s.
While I'm professionally more busy with electronic music, I tend to prefer the more bluesy, jazzy side of music history during the evenings whilst reading a good book on politics, or a novel with a historic background. Dave Brubeck and Billie Holiday are the first names that come to mind. My wife on the other hand has a more latin temperament and as a result the tortillas, tamales, caldos are keeping me more than up to date with the delicious Mexican cuisine.

Why they chose this property
I fell i love with this area due to the fantastic surroundings as the house is situated close to the old city walls (10 meters away!). The park is a living lung for the city and changes colours thought the year.
What makes this property unique
Built in 1921 right after WW1, this house is a typical one. During the renovation as much original elements were preserved to give you a taste of how people lived back then (but upgraded and enlarged to accommodate our current needs of course). The housefront itself is protected by law and considered to be part of the Ypres architectural patrimony. On top it's situated very close to the city centre, the Mening Gate and other points of interest.
