About this property

AWARD-WINNING, 5* LUXURY, TISSINGTON FORD BARN, DERBYSHIRE. 12 GUESTS & 1 PET

Tissington Ford Barn is a Grade II listed stone barn conversion, located in the Peak National Park near to Ashbourne and Bakewell. Beautifully located with scenic walks and cycle path from its door step. Tissington Ford Barn is designed to give our guests elegance with comfort and has been recently furnished with a contemporary country-styled ambience. This is the perfect place to unwind after your sight seeing and walks with your family or friends.

THE POSSIBILITY OF HIRING OUR OWN HOT TUB, PRIVATE CHEF, COCKTAIL CLASS, MURDER MYSTERY NIGHT, BEAUTY & HAIR THERAPIST, OUTDOOR YOGA & KEEP FIT CLASSES, IS AVAILABLE TO OUR GUESTS TO CREATE THIER OWN UNIQUE PEAK DISTRICT BREAKAWAY AND CELEBRATION AT THE BARN!

Please email Sophie to talk about any of these in house services or about the various activities around the area such as a Spa day, clay pigeon shooting, Go Ape, quad biking, paint-balling, treasure hunts, gem-panning, water rafting and canoeing etc.

The Barn is adjacent to a footpath and stream which joins the High Peak, Tissington Trail and conveniently connects to Carsington Water (the famous Ellen McCarthur learnt to sail); offering our guests good walking and cycling opportunities from the holiday cottage.

There is so much to do, see, and explore in this area with some of the finest country stately homes in England to visit, such as: Chatsworth House - famous by the documentary series and also the much loved television series of Pride & Prejudice. Jane Austen fans will love the estate and gardens as much as the children! There is also the hauntingly enchanting Haddon Hall to visit which is a particular favourite of mine, where Jayne Eyre was screened from and are both an easy scenic car ride of 25 minutes away. Bakewell is a stunning Peak Park town and every Monday has a large busy market and various shops to explore. Bakewell is still open for business on a Sunday and also gives you a chance to wander along the River Derwent and feed the ducks and maybe take a bite of the real Bakewell Pudding!

If your love is for the sea, even in the middle of the countryside we can offer you Carsington Water as an alternative. A stunning setting just a couple of miles away you can do most water sports from or take a gentle walk around the area. Theme parks are readily available and the most famous in the area is Alton Towers only a 30-minute drive away and is set in stunning scenery. 20 minutes drive North through quiet lanes takes you to Gullivers Kingdom for the younger members of the group or The heights of Abraham exploring the caves at Matlock Bath.

The walks are endless and depending on your ability we have mountains to hills to valleys surrounding the Peak Park to explore. One of the most famous gentle walks is the Dovedales and is only a 5-minute drive away. Take a visit to Alstonefield or Hartington, Ilam and of course Tissington to see some of our local award-winning villages in the area.

The accommodation includes:
The Main Barn; Enter into a welcoming Kitchen and Dining area with country painted kitchen cupboards, and a table and bench to seat 12 persons. Door to a large oak vaulted ceiling lounge with three large sofas and two armchairs, country chest and TV/DVD. A door leading to a wide L-shaped hall with Four bedrooms, the master with a large en-suite and one family Bathroom both fitted with Vileroy Boch suite and wall tiles.

Across the courtyard is the Annexe with 2 further bedrooms both with en-suite wet rooms, walk-in wardrobes and kitchenette. 'The Granary' Bedroom Suite can be separated or adjoined to 'The Miller's Rest' Bedroom Suite depending on your requirements. The Miller's Rest has its own separate kitchen with fridge, sink and microwave.

A warm welcome from Tissington Ford Barn
What a wonderful first impression of Tissington Form Barn we had. Everything from the generous luxury hamper as we walked through the door, beautiful decor, spotlessly clean, comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen and the attention to detail at every turn. Our group of 8 friends and daughters have definitely found our second home to meet up annually. The private picnic area was such a privilege , the weather was beautiful and a perfect afternoon to enjoy the delights from the hamper washed down with prosecco . Sandy has thought of everything and the hot tub is just the icing on the cake.

Relaxing stay
Very comfortable and clean. Near a quiet (ish) road, but the orientation of the barns means it is quiet and private, even when sitting outside. Fantastic location for outdoor activities and sight seeing.

Excellent property in a great location!
We had a fantastic stay at Tissington Ford Barn to celebrate our Dad's 60th birthday as a family. The property is excellently furnished, very comfortable and easily accommodated the whole family (Adults and little ones). The location is great and very picturesque. There are plenty of shops, villages and attractions within a short drive of the barn, so we were never without supplies or something to do. Communication with us was excellent and made us feel very welcome for the duration of our stay. Thank you!

Large but cosy house, in a fantastic location, with hosts who commmunicate fantastically
We stayed at Tissington Ford Barn for 3 nights. Before arrival, communication with Sandra and Sophie had been great. They answered all my queries and offered no end of knowledge on things to do, etc. On arrival, we were greeted with a lovely welcome pack (thank you!). The house was immaculately presented and well equipped for all our needs over the long weekend. The barn is very big, but still felt very cosy. The sofas are super comfy and the table in the kitchen makes the space a very sociable area to be with your friends/family. You don't get any signal in the house, and so WhatsApp/FB message was used a lot to communicate with anyone (using the barn WiFi). However, the WiFi doesn't reach the annex and so you can't communicate via phone once you are in there. We hired a hot tub and it was delivered the day before we arrived and so it was hot when we got there. Absolutely perfect! Only three very little things to mention - There was no coal for the bbq (it didn't matter because we had bought some with us, but if we hadn't....) The bbq was filthy and the handle on it broken All bathrooms had ran out of toilet rolls by the Sunday morning (and we weren't leaving until Monday morning!) Thank you for having us! We will 100% be returning and also recommending to our friends and family

Tissington Ford Barn was just lovely! Well equipped, clean and very stylish. The owners have obviously put a lot of thought into this property, to make it a very pleasant place to stay in in every way. The setting is beautiful and there are lovely walks from the barn. We had a wonderful stay. Property was extremely comfortable, well equipped, lovely homely touches. Welcome pack was unexpected (we forgot) and great quality. Plenty of outdoor space, although snow, rain and hail was not conducive to using these facilities. Have already recommended the property to others.

We still can't stop talking about it!!
Firstly, my apologies for taking so long to write this review; it's been a crazy few weeks of birthday celebrations, but our stay at Tissington Ford Barn surpassed all expectations and nearly a month later the girls are still talking about it and planning the next stay there! The house is beautiful, the bedrooms are stunning with super comfy beds and it's equipped with everything you could possibly think of. We stayed as a group of 12 ladies to celebrate my 40th Birthday. Sandy was amazing throughout the whole process - super fast responses (even when she was away herself), she helped with arranging activities and just giving ideas and even arranged to post back my friends much loved Bake Off apron. It was also lovely to meet her on the Saturday morning when she arrived with our fitness instructor ( yes, we really did, and it was blooming brilliant. Even those of us who were a little unfit, thoroughly enjoyed getting out in the fresh air. We arranged a whole weekend of activities and Tissington Barn was the perfect venue in a beautiful setting. For anyone looking for ideas I can highly recommend: Keep fit with Katie, Beauty by Kelly, The Arty Party Company, Krupas Kitchen and Midland Hot Tub Hire. Thank you for everything and I'm sure you'll be seeing us again soon xx

A lovely property in a good location
Tissington Ford Barn is a lovely property in a good location for exploring the Peak District. We used it as a place to gather friends / family and we all had a brilliant time - thank you! The property provided comfortable accommodation as described. The things we liked most about the property were: - the location - the ample parking - a nice welcome pack - lovely grounds with plenty of outdoor seating - plentiful hot water and warm central-heating - well appointed bedrooms with comfortable beds - a large but cosy lounge with plenty of seating - a well equipped kitchen with LOADS of crockery, cutlery, pots& pans etc. - overall the property was very clean and nicely presented Some areas that could be improved (to deliver a 5* rating): - (not an easy one to fix), but the lack of surfaces for food prep in the kitchen was frustrating and all the knives were blunt - the curtains through-out the property were badly hung and in most cases did a bad job of keeping out the early morning light - the floors in the wet-rooms in the Annex meant the water from the shower did not drain away well and no tool was supplied to "sweep" the water towards the drains - the fridge in the main house was small for such a large property - the wifi was very slow and the poor quality signal did not extend to the garden areas or the Annex. Overall - we enjoyed a lovely stay at Tissington Ford Barn and would recommend it highly.

I grew up in London and relocated with work to Derbyshire. It was after exploring the area that I realised I would never return to city life - the fresh air and freedom of the countryside and hills made me feel alive. I have now been lucky to live in the area for 30 years and in this time I have married and have three wonderful children who have grown up in this glorious part of England!
Our favourite places to walk from Tissington Ford Barn is the Dovedales and Ilam Estate, Tissington, Alstonefield and Mildale, Carsington and the Chatsworth Estate. If you like to venture a bit further then north of Bakewell is some outstanding walks and views. Monsal Head near Ashford On The Water, Curbar and Frogatt Edge, Stanedge Edge near,Hathersage and Kinder Scout are some of the ones which stand out if you are a keen walker. There is also Buxton Town which is another lovely day out with outstanding walks on the North side.
