About this property

Darwin Barn at Studfarm Barns

Darwin barn is a sympathetically converted 19th century barn with a stunning view of a large fishing/ wildlife pool.
The accommodation is comprised of a large well equipped dining kitchen, comfortable sitting room, 1 king size, 1 double and 1 twin bedroom each with ensuite shower room. The barn benefits from Biomass central heating ( underfloor on the ground floor), large rangecooker, dishwasher, fridge freezer, microwave, 5 freeview TVs and WiFi.
The property which sits within the owners smallholding is named after Charles Darwin, one of Shropshire's most famous descendants who was born nearby. The close proximity of The Shropshire Union Canal is great for walkers and cyclists with plenty to explore. After a day spent exploring all the area has to offer, the local pub which is only 1/4 mile away offers food or why not use the BBQ provided and relax by the wildlife pool watching the ducks and geese.

Lovely stay near Market Drayton
A lovely barn conversion which was perfect for us as a family with 2 dogs and near Keele University so we could see our daughter who is studying there. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

A delight to find a property and host that surpasses expectations.
Stayed for the weekend whilst settling our daughter into university. The property is lovely - sympathetically restored barns with lovely curated interior decor and features. A beautiful location too. Mark and his family made us feel very welcome with the freedom to explore their land and come and go without ever feeling as though we were intruding. Made for a very relaxing backdrop to what was otherwise an a busy and demanding weekend. Thank you!

Perfect in every way
I could not rate this place highly enough. As soon as you walk in you are hit by the obvious amount of care, dedication and style the owner quite clearly has for this beautiful property and it’s surroundings. Amenities at every turn and just a wonderful property all together. My only comment is purely that the photos on the website do not do this property justice, the rooms are large, airy and filled with beautiful natural light and I feel that the photos don’t show just how fabulous this place truly is. Lyn, you should be incredibly proud, well done, thank you and look forward to hopefully stopping with you again.

These barn conversions have been done with no expense spared. Beautifully styled and with everything you could wish for. Owners were lovely to deal with. The location is so peaceful and a pub serving good food within easy walking distance. Highly recommend this place.

Exceptional accommodation and location
The property is equipped and furnished to a high standard with every consideration to the needs of the tenants. We loved the attention to detail from the feature window and beams to the artisan lampshades made from reclaimed materials. Consideration has been given to comfort, and there is an understated quality in the choice of furnishings. We loved the views over the ponds and the Shropshire countryside, and enjoyed exploring. The fishing was excellent! While there are plenty of small fish such as rudd in the upper pond, the big carp in the lower pond were a challenge, and the two we managed to land (20lb+ and 25lb+) were cause for celebration. Our hosts were helpful and friendly. Our long weekend break at Stud Farm Barns far exceeded our expectations and we sincerely hope to return soon.

Beautiful peaceful get away
A lovely barn conversion in the beautiful Shropshire countryside. The property was very well equipped with a great kitchen, large head showers in each bedroom and a cosy lounge area with LG smartTV overlooking the pond where we spent the evenings. It was very relaxing sharing my morning cup of tea with the runner ducks and guinea fowl and sometimes Marks (the property owner) dogs which were very friendly. The Whark pub is a short 5 min walk down the road with beautiful vierw along the canal and market drayton was only 10 mins drive away with plenty of shops and take aways. Mark and Lyn were lovely hosts and we woudl happily come back again and recommend the property to our family and friends.

Excellent accommodation with beautiful views
My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Darwin Barn at Stud Farm. The hosts, Mark and Lyn, were incredibly friendly and helpful during our time there, and the property had everything we needed for a comfortable holiday. There was also the added bonus of watching the animals run around and the picturesque views that are spectacular of an evening (not to mention the dogs are incredibly friendly!) It is also ideally situated to visit numerous places nearby (Hawkstone Park Follies and Fordhall Farm are our recommendations!) We're already looking into a return visit, and even renting out the other barn so we can bring others with us! In short, if you're looking for a spacious yet peaceful place to stay in Shropshire, I don't think you will find a better place to stay than Studfarm Barns.

Lovely holiday
We've just returned home after a lovely 5 days. All communication with the owners, Mark and Evelyn, both before and during our stay, was friendly and helpful and they made us feel welcome and relaxed. The accommodation suited us perfectly - grandparents, parents and two teenagers. Beds were comfortable and facilities good. The environment is wonderful - we enjoyed seeing the ducks and ducklings waddle past and there was plenty of space in another field for our dog to have a good run. Lots of beautiful places to explore in the surrounding area, even with Covid19 - we visited Telford, Ironbridge, Attingham Park, Church Stretton, Hawkstone Follies, as well as enjoying a walk along the nearby canal. Memorable moments include stargazing on a clear night and getting up at 5:30am to watch the sunrise - awesome! Thanks to Mark and Evelyn for a lovely week!

The Perfect Spot in Shropshire
Owners Evelyn & Mark are very welcoming and friendly. Darwin Barn has lovely views across the large ponds. A great spot to sit out in the evening with a G&T! Accommodation is spacious with a fantastic kitchen that has every item of cookery equipment you could possibly need! A five minute walk and you're right on the Shropshire Union Canal - enjoyed lovely dog walks along the tow path - with The Wharf Tavern pub just over the otherside of the bridge. Will definitely be returning for another relaxing holiday.

We chose well, the best place we have ever stayed
Perfect in every way, everything far exceeded our expectations. The perfect hosts, beautiful barn conversion in an equally beautiful setting; equipped with everything you could need. Bonus of ducklings on the pond for entertainment. Short, easy walk to the local canal side pub. Short drive to Market Drayton. Really hope to visit again.

Beautiful Shropshire Style
We had the most wonderful time with our family of six - comfortable and stylishly curated barn through tout with every detail thought through. Lyn and Mark are by far the most generous and welcoming hosts we have met on our U.K. travels and we can’t wait to book again for next year . Thank you

Highly recommend Stud Farm Barns!!
We come to stay over the winter holidays with our three kids, ages 9,7 and 2 and had the most wonderful time! Lyn and Mark greeted us on our arrival and are the nicest hosts. They were very accommodating and helpful. The converted barns are absolutely beautiful, decorated to good taste and a very high standard. The barns were very clean, all the bed linen smelt divine and the barn had everything we needed! There was plenty of room, the barns were lovely and warm and there was plenty of hot water. The area is beautiful and peaceful and the kids absolutely loved it! We highly recommend Stud Farm Barns and will definitely be rebooking in the summer.

We komen graag terug! Vriendelijke groeten, Renée Brakel

Darwin Barn. Relaxing rural retreat
The property itself and its setting were perfect. The facilities and thoughtful touches by Lyn excellent. Eggs, bread, milk, tea and coffee provided. Lack of mobile phone network coverage was a bit of a problem. Also the listing stated the barn was 0.9 miles or 1.5 km from centre of Market Drayton. This most definitely not the case. More like 5 or 6 miles, (£9 each way in taxi). This should be rectified. However in the end that did not detract from our enjoyment of the property. Would definitely recommend.

Exceptional dog friendly property and location.
The property and location were more than we had expected or hoped for, wonderful for our family and our dogs and Lyn and Mark were so lovely and very welcoming. The views were stunning and you couldn’t help but relax there. We went out and about each day and with so many attractions around the area we were never short of somewhere to go, in fact we will need to revisit as we ‘found’ many more places of interest as we were driving around...just need to work out dates 😊
