We had a great time staying at Simple Pleasures. Location allows easy access to everything on MDI. Being on the water is awesome. Cabin is well-equipped and as pictured. We hope to visit again.
The home was just perfect. Clean and comfortable. The fireplace was very nice plenty of firewood for fires each night. Saw seal harbors from the living room window. Also a bunch of porpoise in the cove. Lots of birds. Very quiet in this little cove. Close enough to Acadia, as we went to the carriage roads every day. Would stay here again for sure..
The cottage was right on the water! Beautiful views of Sommes Sound. Comfortable cottage, bed was fine. Nice deck. Could you a better couch, tough to get up from the couch for us older folks, younger folks will have no problem though.
I cannot imagine a better place to spend a week on the island; super close to anything you would want to see in Acadia, but secluded enough to make you feel like spending a full day sitting by the dock.
This place was the perfect peaceful spot to end each day with a fire pit, glass of wine, sound of the Loons in the distance and the beautiful view of the Sound. The cabin itself was clean and comfortable and suited all of our needs. My wife and I enjoyed staying here very much and look forward to coming back! Highly recommend!
Simply beautiful! This sweet little cottage had everything necessary for a wonder getaway week! We saw an otter & porpoises from the window over the bay. Enjoyed kayaking on the ocean and sitting on the swings together. We boiled our own lobsters on 3 different nights and hiked 30 miles of beautiful Acadia trails. We also rented bikes to ride on the carriage roads one day! We will be back one day to celebrate an anniversary! Thank you, Michael!!
Peaceful and Beautiful cottage on Somes Sound. Had everything we needed and was close to Acadia National Park. Saw Otters and heard Loons while we sat by our fire in the evening. Just wonderful!
Perfect, quiet location with incredible views close to everything around Acadia NP and Bar Harbor
Loved our week at Simple Pleasures—hiked all over Acadia NP with our dog and were very comfortable at the cabin. We loved the views from the living room, had everything we needed, and really enjoyed our time on Mt Desert Island. We would recommend this property to others and would stay again. Thank you.
This cabin checked everything off our wish list, close to all our favorite spots on MDI. Easy access to trails, restaurants and small seaside towns. The private pier provided hours of fun fishing with plenty of marine activity to watch on the sound.
My husband and I stayed here last week for a week. We were set to arrive later in the evening and Michael made sure the porch light was left on for us. We had no issues the entire week we were there and it was very peaceful and relaxing. We were mostly there in the evenings and to sleep since we were out and about exploring the National Park most of the time. It was very quiet at night other than the sound of the water and the occasional loon.
As an elderly couple we are no longer very active. “Simple Pleasures” was an ideal place in that it was all on one level, and we got great pleasure sitting and enjoying the view and the tides.
This cottage is right on the water, saw dolphins and eagles from the deck and kayak, lobster boats coming right by. It is small and pretty basic, but comfortable and decent kitchen, wonderful big windows to see Somes Sound. It is on the quiet side but easy 15-20min drive to all hiking trails and Bar Harbor, 5mins to SW Harbor which has nice restaurants. we had coffee in the morning and glass of wine in the evening on the deck by the water, loved it, we will be back.
We loved the cabin, and especially since it was isolated and on the water. Would have liked a ladder on the dock to make swimming easier. But that is small compared with the sense of being alone in Maine. We will be back.
Relaxing & Beautiful,
The name on the Cottage "Simple Pleasures"
reflects everything about this Vacation spot we would like to call our second home.
Michael the Host was so easy to deal with and a very nice person it made our first stay here on the Sound
that much better.
We both Recommend this Cottage "Simple Pleasures"
to everyone !!!
A BIG THANK YOU TO
Michael
A wonderful, clean and quiet stay at Simple Pleasure for 7 days with my husband, son (11) and dog. Perfect home for a smaller sized family. Well equipped kitchen, updated bathroom and bedrooms. All furniture, including deck furniture was newer and comfortable. The kayaks and row boat provided really made my son’s week. Fishing can be done right from the deck at high tide or from the dock when the tide is out. We even went swimming after a long day of hiking in the very cold ocean water. There is a hose behind the house to rinse off our pup. Also the host provided a lot of firewood for the fire pit, so no worries trying to get any. WiFi and direct tv work great. The host also provided ample towels for both the bathroom and beach towels for outside. Overall excellent experience and would definitely recommend this house!
My three daughters, dog and I stayed over the 4th of July. Was just the place we needed - had everything to make us comfortable. Nice and quiet. Didn’t hear any fireworks ! So close to the park so we could go in and out throughout the day. We loved watching the tide go in and out each day and even saw a jellyfish from the pier!
Hosts super responsive when we had a small issue. Book today !!
Loved our stay in this charming cottage with idyllic views of Somes Sound. Lots of windows to watch the changing scene (fog, sunlight, or cloud shadows on the water and mountains, boats drifting and birds swimming and diving, rising and falling tide on rocks right up to the cottage) and provide a cool breeze. Cozy, clean and comfortable with unique ambience of private cottage in shipyard/harbor, still accessible to all of MDI.
Nearby places and activities we enjoyed: drives to overlooks in Acadia National Park (Cadillac Mtn, Thunderhole, etc), biking along carriage roads (favorites Eagle Lake loop, Jordan Pond and Bubble Pond), shops and eating in Bar Harbor, nature cruise (seals, birds, porpoise, lighthouse) in Frenchman Bay, tea and popovers at Jordan Pond house, hiking and walking nature trails (Jesup trail).
Wish we had more time for kayaking, whale watch cruise, lighthouse tours, explore more trails, and biking more carriage roads. We will have to come back! 🤗

Great location, responsive host
While we loved the cottage, we were there during an unusually hot week, and it was impossible to cool the place down (sits out in the open sun). We also had serious wifi issues (not in the control of the owner). Good kitchen, great amenities, comfortable beds (though small, so my husband and I stayed in separate rooms), tiny bathroom. Overall would recommend.

We enjoyed our stay a lot and highly recommend this property to everyone!
We stayed here (4 people - 2 couples) from 8th till 15th of October 2017. We had a really great time! Fall foliage in Acadia is really beautiful. Very homey atmosphere in the cottage, the fireplace adds a lot of coziness. The view is simply amazing! Loved to have a cup of morning coffee on the terrace enjoying the quietness and the view. I think we had everything we needed, in the kitchen as well. Having a dishwasher would be even more perfect. The cottage has a great location, pretty close to everything - about 15-20 minutes by car to Bar Harbor and most of the hiking trails, even closer to the west part of the park, e.g. Acadia Mountain or Beech Mountain trail, walking distance to Echo lake.
There were also some minor downsides which did not however prevent us from enjoying our stay. The bathroom does not have any heating, so we had to keep it's door open overnight so it would be warmed up, otherwise it was freezing there in the morning. The furniture is a bit old, which adds charm but also some inconvenience - for example opening drawers of the kitchen cabinets and bedroom dresser was not so easy. So to freshen the furniture up a little wouldn't be a bad idea. The internet speed was a bit slow, mobile internet worked better then the one in the cottage. The payment process was complicated because the owner does not accept credit cards or Paypal or bank transfer, only checks. But since we live in Germany, sending a check to the USA was a problem for us, also because German banks do not support check payments anymore. Luckily our friends from Boston have offered their help and sent a check to the owner for us.
Nevertheless we had such an amazing time and would be happy to stay here again when we are next time in Acadia. Especially if the downsides would be fixed and the owner would accept other payment options ;-)
Not an advertisement, just my personal opinion, maybe it will be useful for somebody :) I highly recommend a travel guide "Acadia: The Complete Guide: Acadia National Park & Mount Desert Island" by James Kaiser, which provides a lot of useful and interesting information about the national park and surroundings, its history, flora and fauna, activities, description of the best hiking trails, etc.
Loved this cottage. Was perfect for my two kids and I. We were able to fish and kayak right at the house and saw all sorts of wildlife- seals, porpoise, osprey and even a bald eagle. Central to everything but also secluded and so quiet. Was able to watch the meteor showers from the deck and see shooting stars. Will absolutely be back!
