Originally a Victorian farm, the Stables nestle beside a Sussex barn giving it a sheltered and secluded setting. The pretty country garden looks out across the wildflower meadows, where we often have sheep grazing. The stables has central heating and a lovely log burning fire for cosy evenings in.We are committed to promoting local sustainable tourism and the property is a Green Tourism Gold Award holder and accredited as Walkers and Cyclist welcome. Solar panels have been installed and logs provided are from our woods. The Stables are delightfully rural and yet close to amenities. We are easily accessible by public transport and a regular bus service passes the door. At the Stables you can enjoy walking from your doorstep through the woods to the local pub, tearoom or onto Ashdown Forest, looking out for deer, badgers birds and wildflowers on your way. This conversion offers a superb getaway, for everyone, in a truly unspoilt location.
We have our own on site bakery , we make organic sough dough and pastries . These can be pre ordered to be delivered while you are staying in The Stables.
This is a perfect place to stay all year round , with so much to do both here and in the local area. We ask for a min stay of 3 night but in July and August we ask for 7 night bookings.

Weekend stay with teenagers
This is a cosy property in a beautiful location. The owners made us feel extremely welcome - we felt very much at home, right from our arrival. The cottage is very well equipped, clean, and tidy. The views of the sunrise over the forest are amazing!

Peaceful and brilliant for National Trust Properties
Lucy and her husband Barry were so friendly and helpful. The cottage is all you could wish. It is central to many National Trust Properties, probably ten but we visited five all withing easy reach; Standen House, Sheffield Park, Nymans, Chartwell, and Batemans.

Wonderful stay
Really enjoyed our stay. We had a very warm welcome and the property is really lovely and cozy. It was super clean and had everything we needed. The beds were also very comfortable so slept like a log. The baked goods we could get from their micro bakery were delicious. The gardens were very nice and enjoyed the walk in the woods. It definitely is a very zen like place. Wouldn't hesitate in staying there again.

The Stables
The Stables are very lovely. It seems a bit remote but the next supermarket is only 10 minutes drive away. Also if you go to Tunbridge Wells you can take a train to London. The house is in a good condition but in my opinion it needs some isolation. Like there are visible gaps at the windows. Everything else is just fine. There are boardgames and toys for the children in the garden. The kitchen is fully equipped and Lucy helps a lot with everything else what is needed.

Wonderful stay
What a wonderful stay we had at this amazing place. Everything was perfect. Great communication with Lucy prior to arrival a warm welcome at arrival at this beautifully converted stables with everything you need. Really well equipped kitchen, including a bottle of tasty Home farm apple juice. We had breakfast in the garden with amazing views over the fields with sheep and towards the private forest where we enjoyed some nice walks. So peaceful and green and lush, this is English countryside at its best. Still only half an hour from Gatwick airport and very close to many beautiful gardens and the beautiful coast.

A delightful cottage in magical surroundings
I stayed for a week and enjoyed it greatly. The cottage is a wonderfully thoughtful and comfortable conversion, with lovely details and a cosy setup. It is spacious, airy and has a nice seating area in front of the fireplace as well as a smaller one upstairs. The stable windows/door open to a view across a private garden and pastures with grazing sheep towards the adjacent woods (a bonus for walkers). Everything worked well, and the beds were super comfortable. The only drawback for me personally was the lack of reliable phone signal, but that is probably to be expected in wooded areas and a minor drawback for those who visit for rest and relaxation and do not plan to spend much time indoors in this beautiful area. Lucy was a very responsive and attentive host. Thank you for having me, hope I can visit again.

Beyond all expectations!
The Stables are a delight, perfectly appointed and with a wonderful outlook from the house and garden across a huge sheep meadow to woodlands harbouring deer, squirrels and many birds. The property is spacious and can be airy in the sunshine or cosy in bad weather. Though just off the A26, it is a place of great peace. All the delights of the Ashdown Forest are on the doorstep and a great range of pubs, restaurants and shops only a short drive away. The owners live nearby and offer a warm welcome and help and advice without obtruding in any way.A perfect place for a rural break in any season.

Beautiful views and cottage.
We received a very warm welcome from Lucy on arrival. A lovely presented cottage with beautiful unspoilt views, in a tranquil setting. Great location for exploring the area, from the South Coast to London. Wonderful country walks direct from the doorstep, no need to take the car out, perfect.

A little slice of joy
What a beautiful setting for a holiday. We were warmly welcomed by Lucy on arrival, and immediately noticed the absolute peace and tranquillity. We chose this property on three things – quality of the converted stable building, the surrounding private woods and the ease of which it was to head out and visit many local attractions and place of interest. And we were not disappointed. The house was immaculate, and was stocked with everything you would need and more. But the biggest asset was the view from the front door, overlooking private fields and woods…the English countryside at it’s best. Even though Lucy lives next door in the detached farm home, the house was very secluded, but was great to know that there someone close at hand for any problems (not that we had one single issue) or local knowledge. Worth every one of the 5 stars!! Thank you for our stay Ian, Becky, Noah & Luca

Perfect stay
We had a wonderful week's stay at The Stables. We were blessed with the weather and so enjoyed sitting in the garden enjoying the view and the wildlife. The accommodation was spotless and it was the best-equipped we have stayed in. The hosts were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We were given a basket of home-grown fruit and veg which was much appreciated, and my husband enjoyed fishing in the small lake situated a few steps from the Stables. Fabulous location as well. We will definitely return.

Wonderful break!
The property was perfect! Everything was very clean - extra important at the moment - and it's in a lovely location, with great views all round, very relaxing. Being able to sit and watch the wildlife or take a walk in the woods was just what we needed! Good contact with the owner and lots of local information in advance was appreciated. The apple juice and home grown produce waiting for us on arrival was a lovely touch, thank you Lucy! Definitely hoping to return at some point.
