Beautiful sunset views over the lake!

This is a restful, casual home – 1700+ comfortably furnished square feet on one level, wonderful on sunny days and cozy when the “liquid sunshine” happens. Breezes from the lake refresh through the whole house.

The Lake -

Blue Lake covers 330 acres and has two county parks and one public boat launch. This lake has great fishing, boating, and wildlife viewing opportunities including nesting bald eagles.

Our Expectations -

No pets, no smoking, and we expect you to take care of our house. You'll have defined check-in and check-out times that you'll need to respect. Payment is in advance.

Frequently asked questions-

Michigan’s adventure is 11 miles/20 minutes away.

We do not recommend swimming right by our shore. It is suitable for young kids to splash in but just beyond the dock is muddy and weedy. There is a roped swimming area a short walk or boat ride away at the county park.

We do not offer pontoon/motorboat rental but there are third party rentals nearby.

There is AC in the master bed and the living room. When you open the slider doors and windows a great breeze does wonders to cool the house.

Beautiful lake

The mornings were spent on the large deck with coffee taking in the view.afternoon the family went kayaking ,fishing, we brought a big raft floated allday,The evenings we enjoyed the nice fire pit and watched the sunsets! The house was very homey, roomy and clean with a beautiful view!

Visiting the Eagles at Blue Lake

This was our second stay. As with the first visit, we found the property clean and very well stocked with everything we could need during our time at Blue Lake. We particularly enjoyed watching the eagles - 4 total - which spent their days on the pines directly across from the cottage and occasionally dove close to the dock to capture their dinner. We also used the kayaks to tour the lake each morning. If you are looking for a place to unplug from the world, this is your spot!

Amazing sunsets

Our 3rd time staying. We love the location because it is somewhat close to home so our young adults can come and go (still work). Great lake for fishing and boating. Lots of fun to hear the excitement of the campers at the summer camps on the lake.

Fantastic Fourth

We have loved coming to this cabin for the past several years. It is great to get away. I appreciate minor updates and upgrades each year. Second stay at this property and this time was better than the first. Fantastic location to our ultimate destination. Plenty of communication with property owner prior to arrival but our schedule once we were there didn't allow for much communications during our actual stay. Perfect summer fun home on a budget!

What a great value here! We had a fantastic week at this vintage lake house. The owner provided so many extras as well. We were all very comfortable and enjoyed boating, fishing, swimming, and sunsets! Very close to everything we wanted to do too. I would recommend this property to both my friends and family.

Only thing I could possibly say negatively is there is 2 (non central) ac units, if those were turned on prior to our arrival it would have been nicer inside but otherwise it's a great place with a beautiful lake. If you like fishing this spot is even better.

Seeing things from the other side.

Members of my family have been spending at least some of their summer on Big Blue Lake for well over a hundred years, so I am quite familiar with the crystal clean waters for fishing and swimming. However, this was my first stay on the southeast side of the lake. The cottage’s location and layout really maximizes the effect of cooling breezes and colorful sunsets. The house is clean and comfy - and is supplied with almost anything you might want for a week of relaxation. The lack of WIFI and TV was refreshing - not a limitation for us. My wife’s only complaint - no Scrabble game (personally, I was gratified)! It’s a fantastic place to unwind.

Fishing Big Blue Lake

My family and I enjoyed the home for a week of fishing from the dock, boats and kayaks. A few miles away we enjoyed a day at Michigan Adventures and we spent another day exploring the Silver Lake Sand Dunes. Two nearby disc golf courses in Whitehall and Flip City gave us a good work out for a cheap fee ($5). One rainy night we headed to the Cinema a quick 20 minute drive away. Every night we slept deeply after a bonfire and boardgame . Thank you for the memories

Fun Lake Getaway

Our family had a wonderful vacation here! The views and lake are spectacular! Wonderful weather and little boat traffic made for a smooth lake and awesome waterskiing! We enjoyed the kayaks, paddle boat, and fishing gear outside and the puzzles and board games inside. This property has it all! We didn’t have to leave the property as we cooked our own meals here. Property and photos are as described. Air conditioning made it so comfortable. Check in was easy. Communication was great. A quick call to the owner helped us located the breaker box when a breaker was tripped. Quick, helpful response and issue was resolved easily. A vacation enjoyed by all—kids, teens, and adults!! Thank you for sharing your home with us!! Definitely recommend!!

Great Getaway

This location was perfect for our trip. The drive to Silver Lake ORV area was easy. There are snow mobile trails to ride ATVs very close by. Walmart was close by for groceries and other necessities. Big Blue Lake is beautiful and the dock was perfect for fishing. We had a wonderful time and would stay again!

Blue Lake Cabin

This was our second time visiting this cabin. The hosts are very friendly, prompt, and helpful. The children loved catching fish and borrowing the kaykas. We did rent a boat this time and that was great being about to dock right at the house. We love the welcome baskets, had fun listening to the record player, and evening fires. We LOVED that you added air in the front room...GAME CHANGER! We cannot wait to be back next summer. Thank you for the memories.

About the host

We are brothers, John and Sam Eberly. We're third generation caretakers of this wonderful house and are committed to sharing it with others.

We both grew up in this home, and we helped our parents stay here for many years. Now we're keeping it in the family for our kids and grandchildren. Part of this effort includes some limited summer rentals to defray costs and share the property with others.

Why they chose this property

This home was originally built by our uncle Jack, an industrialist and president of one of the "arsenal of democracy" manufacturing firms that carried the weight of WWII production in Muskegon (building tank and aircraft engines). Our grandfather hand built the garage storage cupboards that still hold our tools and fishing tackle. There was originally a large maple tree coming up through the laundry room, and a larger pine tree growing through the back deck!

Jack and his socialite wife Bessie ("Mr. and Mrs. Muskegon" in 1968) entertained here in the 1950's and 60's until the original cottage burned down in the early seventies. Bessie re-built the home and lived out her life here. Our parents inherited the house and made it their home until Dad's passing in 2013.

After all of these years, the house has witnessed so much of our lives that it's unthinkable to part with it. We have so many kids and grandkids that no single family can fairly lay claim to the house, so we've chosen to use it as a rental. This way, we keep the house available for an annual reunion and help finance its upkeep.

This helps with family expenses and keeps the house full of happy guests - just what Bessie and Dad did for all of the years that they lived there!

What makes this property unique

The house, it's location on the lake, and the lake scenery combine to create a wonderful environment for rest - and restoration - of our guests. The lake is by turns stimulating with busy traffic and unbelievably quiet and calm late at night.

Blue Lake supports all water sports - powered or not - and has great fishing. A large portion of the shoreline is occupied by scout and YMCA camps, leaving the shore wooded and unmolested across from the house. You may see canoes and sailboats in the daytime and hear camp songs at night!

We pride ourselves on providing an "all-inclusive" experience with a well appointed kitchen, full complement of towels and linens, and everything kept in good repair. We have a rowboat and kayak included for no extra charge, and there are plenty of fishing poles to go around. And there's a fire pit so you can make memories with your family as the sun sets.
