About this property

Gite with Private Pool and Sensational Mountain Views

The property comprises a 250 year old Languedoc farmhouse and a separate gite, both renovated to a very high standard and situated in a delightful small hamlet hidden among the vineyards and olive groves with wonderful views. Each house is private, completely self contained and built around a superb private 8 x 4m pool, with Roman steps, extensive terracing, summer kitchen, BBQ, wood fired pizza oven, and decked sun terrace. A small olive grove provides further room for children to play in. Normally the owners stay in the farmhouse for the majority of the summer giving the gite occupants exclusive use of the pool and grounds. However both properties are available for rental together. The local village, 10 minutes walk from the hamlet, provides shops, tourist information and restaurants. Golf course within 15 minutes. Wonderful walking, climbing, canoeing and river swimming in the immediate vicinity. Mediterranean beaches an easy drive away. Great choice of cycling routes, ranging from the nearby converted railway line to the most extreme mountain tracks, four adult bikes are provided. Excellent choice of restaurants locally. You are spoilt for choice for wine tasting at the many local vineyards. Ideal holiday location for all ages.

Lovely gite in beautiful and peaceful location
The gite is in a hamlet but within walking distance of Mons la Trivalle. It was very clean, comfortable and well equipped with spacious bedrooms and a bathroom. The kitchen / lounge area is also spacious. There is plenty of outside seating including hammocks. The pool was immaculate with a lovely decking area for the sunbeds. The outdoor kitchen area (pool bar) including a fridge was a real bonus. The location has stunning views and very close to Mons is Gorges d'Heric that is worth a visit for the scenery and swimming. The river at nearby Roquebrun is also ideal for swimming. You can join a cycle path (it was previously a railway line) at Mons that is brilliant for adults and children. The coast is 45 minutes away. Dave and Linda were perfect hosts. Helpful and informative but discreet. I wish we were able to stay longer as there is so much to visit and to do in the area. Can't recommend it enough.

Fantastic gite in the perfect location, excellent hosts, a real ‘home from home’
The gite is really well equipped in the perfect location, David and Linda are the perfect hosts in every way, the gite is ideally located for sightseeing, water sports, cycling, trekking, and perfectly positioned for Carcassonne, Montpellier, Pezenas, beaches and the lakes. The private pool is kept immaculate, David and Linda are on hand for advice should you need them. The village is just a short walk away where you can get your fresh bread and groceries, and there is also a couple of lovely restaurants locally to choose from. Hope to return sometime soon.

Superb property in a beautiful location
We have just returned from our stay here having had a wonderful two weeks at the Gite. Ornac is a lovely little hamlet but within an easy 10 minute stroll of Mons La Trivalle which provides a great local shop, bar restaurant and pizza place. Everyone was incredibly friendly and took our bumbling attempts at French with patience and good humour. We travelled an hour to a lovely beach, swam in rivers, wallowed in the rock pools of Gorges l'Heric, walked around the beautiful towns and villages nearby including Olargues and Roquebrun which are amazing. The Gite was fantastic, to be able to look out over nothing but vineyards and mountains is something you don't get very often and it was incredibly peaceful and relaxing. Dave and Linda are wonderful hosts and are happy to offer advice on local places to see, restaurants to visit and will even help book a table if you need one. We have two daughters aged 13 and 10 and they loved swimming in the pool each day. We are sad to have left and the girls are already asking if we are going back. Thanks again Dave and Linda for a lovely stay, you may see us again...

Lovely gite with very hospitable on-site owners
We couldn't have asked any more from this holiday. The gite is lovely and very well equipped with a wonderful pool that was made clear was for our exclusive use, despite the owners living in the next door property. The location is stunningly beautiful, next to a vineyard and overlooked by the Monte de Caroux. The area is wonderful for walking, cycling or just relaxing, with the village of Mons 20 minutes or so walk away. The Mediterranean coast isn't far away and we also made day trips to Beziers and Carcassonne. We also took advantage of the bikes at the property to cycle along the superb cycle track that stretches for miles in either direction from Mons. Dave and Linda are superb hosts, very friendly, always available for advice, never intrusive. We felt very welcome from the start and appreciated the invitation for an aperitif the 2nd day which gave us the opportunity to find out about the area and the gite. Thoroughly recommended.

Simply stunning location with property and accomodation to match.
We found the property clean and welcoming with the attention to detail (flowers, pictures, ornaments, home accessories) all giving a home from home feeling. The positioning of the property in Ornac gives a high degree of privacy together with fantastic views over the countryside, sitting outside at the meal table just makes you want to linger over the view of the vineyard and across to the hills and "yes please one more glass of wine". Should you be able to tear yourself away from the pool and the magnificent views, Mas Serre is well located for touring the area which has much to offer from tiny sleepy villages, bustling markets, mountain scenery and more adventurous outdoor activities for those so inclined. Dave and Linda - the perfect hosts, only too pleased to offer help and advice if required. The Cliffords

Another great holiday in Ornac
Our 3rd family holiday in this beautiful little hamlet. The gite and pool were well maintained as always and Dave and Linda provided their usual warm welcome and advice on the local area. We always find plenty to do in this area - walking, cycling (bikes provided) freshwater swimming in the rivers, village markets & restaurants with wonderful local food and wine or often just lazing by the pool or hammocks in the garden with the most amazing views. Highly recommended - we will be back!

Mas du Serre
We arrived at Mas du Serre and thought 'wow!' The gite was in a stunning location and was only a 15 minute walk from small village with small but well-stocked supermarket, a great bar, boulangerie/patisserie, La Poste, and even a mini outdoor market on Sunday. The gite was very clean and well-maintained. Best 'welcome basket' we've had. Bed was very comfortable. A large range of books to choose from. Plenty of space in the bathroom. There were gorgeous views from front and back of the gite over the mountains. Plenty of outdoor space and shade, with outdoor tables, chairs and loungers. There was a garage attached for hanging wet clothing. Bikes were available. The pool was crystal clear, with lots of space around the pool for lazing. Great pool house with pizza oven and small kitchen area. The owners, Dave and Linda, were very considerate, and we felt free to ask them anything at any time. Their 'green folder' had lots of information in it. The drives along the mountain roads were stunning. The walk up the gorges of L'Heric on a wide concrete path was not at all scary and the gorges were magnificent. River swimming and kayaking just a short drive from the gite. Although there are a number of restaurants within a few miles of the gite, we only went out for an evening meal once to the most expensive one, which we thoroughly enjoyed but thought was a bit over-priced. It only took cash as well, so keep enough cash back to pay if you go! We would thoroughly recommend Mas du Serre to friends and family. Great gite, great location, great owners.

Another great stay in Ornac
Our 2nd visit was just as enjoyable as our first, although the cherry tree's crop arrived before we did. Linda did leave us a pot of cherry jam though, just another little touch from our thoughtful hosts. This is a lovely peaceful spot, a well equipped and comfortable house with a lovely pool and friendly, helpful owners and hopefully we will be back for a third visit soon.

An enchanting corner of the world
One should be so lucky to find this enchanting spot in the hills of the Languedoc. Dave and Linda Phillips are the quintessential hosts with great knowledge of their adopted village. The outdoor pizza oven and pool are literally on the edge of a vineyard . We particularly enjoyed the miles of biking on the old railroad line through tunnels and over beautiful old bridges. Beautiful roads and romantic villages abound. Go visit. Don't think twice . Cheers, Philip and Kathy Nantucket Island US

Quality gite in a great location
We found this to be a really comfortable property, just as described and ideal for the four adults in our party. The gite contained everything that we needed starting with a really welcome bottle of wine in the fridge on our arrival. Great views one way from the pool over the vines surrounding the gite and the other way over the villages on the hills. It was nice to be within easy walking distance of local amenities and it will be tough to miss out on the daily pain au raisin or croissant for breakfast. We enjoyed excellent meals at both the local auberge and restaurant Garigette and thanks to Linda for helping with the reservation. Both Dave and Linda were really helpful with suggestions of places to visit and we put the bikes to good use zipping up and down the path on the disused railway line. We would not hesitate to recommend Mas du Serres for a fantastic holiday and hope to return in the future.

Lovely gite & location
Beautiful location & views, lovely gite, great holiday. We unfortunately missed our turning on way from airport so took a long detour - but that was just us getting used to the French road signs. Had a look on Google street view before we left which helped to make finding the gite easy together with the directions issued. Property very clean & well maintained (recently refurbished) & great views of the vineyard & hills. The welcome pack was much appreciated especially as we didn't have time to shop on the way given our detour! Owners Dave & Linda were on hand next door more than willing to give useful advice on places to visit & even booking us in at local restaurant. We enjoyed the cycling on the nearby Voie Verte cycle route (old railway line - great for the children as very flat), canoeing on River Orb nearby and walking up the Gorge d'Heric (good path all way up to cafe). Our boys also loved the nearby Abracadabranch (Go Ape type zipwires & tree climbing) plus the pool of course which they were rarely out of when back at the gite. Local village at Mons Le Trivalle has good bakery for lovely bread & pain chocolat, a shop with more or less everything you need (don't really need a supermarket visit) and a basic restaurant at the Auberge but very good food - well recommended (plus another restaurant round the corner which we didn't try out and a pizzeria).

A slice of heaven
We searched for the right holiday home that offered peaceful for us and a pool for our two children aged 7 and 10; that offered sunshine, yet somewhere we could sleep easily at night without the need for air conditioning; that was within reach of a boulangerie and auberge, yet secluded. Not too much then! Yet we found it all at Mas Du Serre in Ornac. Dave and Linda were the perfect hosts and offered useful, yet unobtrusive advice about the surrounding area. The gite was generously equipped, for example pool towels were also included, as was a first delicious petit dejeuner and Linda's homemade jam. We were very comfortable and had a fantastic holiday, exploring local villages and towns of Olargues and St Chinian, as well as the spectacular Gorge D'Heric. We would not fail to recommend the gite and its location to others and expect to return in the future.

Peace and tranquility in Ornac gite.
On arrival at Ornac we were welcomed by the owners Dave and Linda who provided excellent advice re. shops, restaurants and places of interest to visit in the vicinity. The very well equipped, comfortable gite is in a hamlet which is a haven of peace but within a few minutes walk/cycle of Mons where shops and a café are conveniently located. 4 bicycles are provided at the gite which we used to cycle along the velo verte to Olargues which is a beautiful medieval town approx.5km.distant and easily reached by non-cyclists(!) using the flat, traffic-free route. We ate at the Blue Lizard on 2 evenings and enjoyed excellent food at a very reasonable cost. Slightly more upmarket but just as enjoyable was the restaurant in Olargues (Fleur d'Olargues) on the edge of the river with stunning views to accompany the excellent food. Having stayed at the gite in 2013 and again this year, we still feel there is much for us discover in this region and will hopefully return in the future. Highly recommended!

A fantastic holiday in a stunning location
We opened our shutters on the first morning, having arrived in the dark, and were completely blown away by the amazing views of the mountains. For the rest of the week we could not get over the beauty, not just of the setting but also the gite. It was everything we wished for and more. The gite was clean and well equipped. Our hosts were very welcoming and helpful. We would not hesitate to recommend Mas du Serre to anybody looking for a peaceful and relaxing holiday in an absolutely stunning location.

A great place to chill out and wind down
We said we would come back, and it was even better this time. All you would want in the gite itself, but without detracting from its character. Meals outside with just the birdsong, buzzing of bees and the smell of the jasmine. You can be as active as you want with the bikes provided and the nearby watersports, or just visit any number of villages and towns in the surrounding countryside and sample the markets and auberges. Dave and Linda will happily recommend somewhere to suit and make a reservation for you if needed. The auberge/bar in La Trivalle itself is only 15 minutes walk away. After this place we really don't want to stay anywhere else!

A tranquil setting in the heart of the Orb valley
We had such a relaxing and rejuvenating time during our stay in the Gite. Dave and Linda were wonderful hosts, very warm and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble; booking us restaurants and recommending places to visit. The house was delightful; very comfortable and well looked after, finished to a high standard with excellent amenities, but also lovely little touches such as small wild flowers by the beds, selection of books and games, made it feel very congenial and homely. The views to the mountains and vineyards were so picturesque and we spent many relaxing hours on the terrace ; what a haven ! being spring when we arrived the blossom trees had just come out. Ornac is in the Orb valley, very well situated; set in the valley of the three mountains Mons le Travail yet just 45mins drive to the coast . If you love walking this is the place to be ! Felt very much to be an unspoilt area of natural beauty and charm,so many pretty villages and spectacular scenery. We visited at Easter time, we hadn't quite realised how quite out of season this was for the area. In some ways this can be a blessing i.e. very few crowds anywhere and we loved the temperate fresh weather of spring a perfect 20' C degrees most days, but it did mean a few local restaurants opened only at lunchtime during part of the week . Having said this when we did eat out the places Dave and Linda recommended were spot on. The local auberge, Auberge du Caroux in Mons la Trivalle we really enjoyed and visited regularly, very friendly, rustic and heart warming local fare . We would certainly recommend friends to stay here , Dave and Linda have found their piece of heaven here and were genuine lovely hosts who generously wish to share all the delights this area has to offer. We will certainly return. Louis and Rebecca

Idyllic!
A wonderful property, in a wonderful location, with wonderful hosts. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay for our holiday. Linda and David were the friendliest, most relaxed hosts and made our stay a pleasure. The Gite is extremely well finished and sits in the most beautiful surroundings in the South of France. We will definitely be back!

PERFECT (in every way!!)
We've just returned from our first family holiday in the Languedoc region and we couldn't have picked a better property from which to base our discovery of the area. The Gite is equipped and decorated to a high standard, has a lovely swimming pool area (with pizza oven) has the most amazing views (based in a National Park area) and is within easy striking distance of anything you want to see or do (beaches, towns or amazing countryside for walking, cycling etc) It's also set in a village that has everything you need; an Auberge that does excellent lunch menu's, a supermarket with local & organic produce (wine, cheese, vegetables etc) and a more upmarket restaurant for special evening meals. So much so, we didn't leave the village for the first two days as it was so relaxing!! The owners Dave and Linda were warm & welcoming and couldn't do enough to ensure we had the perfect holiday. They made us feel at home straight away and were helpful in giving advice on places to see, local restaurants etc. They did all this while being mindful of our privacy and were only there if we needed them and left us to enjoy and relax in our surroundings. Perfect hosts!! We will be back to Mas Du Serre / Ornac and we would definitely recommend this property to our family and friends. Thank you again Dave & Linda and we look forward to seeing you again next year. Nick, Vic and Eva Rose.

A lovely holiday
The gite had everything we needed, and was was very well furnished and equipped. The property is situated in a tranquil area, surrounded by vineyards with a great outdoor/ pool area. We especially enjoyed having use of the cycles provided for guests, with an excellent cycle track only minutes away. The local area has a number of excellent restaurants close by and many lovely places to visit. Dave and Linda are delightful, friendly hosts who were happy give assistance in booking restaurants or suggesting places to visit. We would highly recommend this property and plan to visit again.

Another Great Holiday in Ornac
Recently returned from our 2nd holiday at Mas du Serre. Once again, we found this a perfect place for a lovely family holiday in a very well equipped gite with a lovely pool and amazing views across the mountains. Aside from relaxing around the pool, there is so much to see and do in this area - walking, kayaking, local markets, a stunning cycle route suitable for all ages (bikes were made available by the owners), river swimming, med beaches also not far. Linda and Dave were again wonderful hosts and as ever, very helpful with local info when we needed it. Local restaurants and village shop with great local produce a short walk away and we also enjoyed a morning cycle for the croissants. I would highly recommend mas due serre for a relaxing holiday in a stunning part of France - we left with very happy memories and will definitely be returning.

About the host

Hosted by Dave and Linda Phillips

Host profile image
Hi, we are Dave and Linda. Now that our three daughters have flown the nest, we have decided to change our lifestyle. Linda has always taught French Spanish and German at secondary level and Dave was a water quality specialist in the UK water industry. We are now both freelance and are spending half our time in France and half in the UK.

Why they chose this property

We have been visiting Languedoc regularly since 1995 due to a school exchange that Linda set up and ran with a French teacher in Beziers. It also became a favourite family holiday destination. During those 15 years we soon came to discover that this was a fantastic part of France, beautiful, quiet sandy beaches, magnificent mountains, clean rivers, great climate, friendly people and of course excellent food and wine!

What makes this property unique

The overwhelming reason for us buying the property was location, location, location! The house has amazing open views across the vineyards to the valley and hills beyond. It is situated within the Regional Parc of the Haut Languedoc in a beautiful small hamlet but is only 10 minutes walk from the nearest village with tourist information office, shop, auberge, tabac, post office etc. It is only 5 minutes drive away from "one of the most beautiful villages in France" Olargues. You will be able to enjoy swimming in the private pool, canoeing and swimming in the local rivers, walking in the hillsides or the Gorge d'Heric, cycling (the old railway line along the valley is ideal for "softies") and wining and dining to your hearts content.
