The Irish Rose has become a vacation favorite for guests from all over the world! Just take a look at our guestbook comments below! This mountain cabin is located on the historic Mosquito Gulch Trail. Just 15 miles south of Breckenridge, it is the perfect spot for either a secluded get-away or a ski vacation at a fraction of the cost.

Centered on ten acres of pine and aspen, the Irish Rose was designed to accommodate those who want a true Colorado experience. With Mosquito Creek flowing nearby, you will enjoy spectacular views of Pennsylvania and London Mountains as you relax with family and friends. A seven person hot tub sits out front in the location of an old historic mine if you want to relax and enjoy the view from there!

If summer hiking, biking or four-wheeling is your desire, four of Colorado's 14,000 foot peaks are at your doorstep, providing some of the best hiking and driving trails in the world. Tackle the summits of Mount Bross, Mount Democrat, Mount Cameron, and Mount Lincoln... all in a single day!

Gold pan on the local creeks, explore 'Buckskin Joe' trail, and visit the ghost town of Park City. The historic mining towns of Alma and Fairplay are also nearby. Mountain bike to your heart's content or drive the legendary 4x4 'Mosquito Pass' into Leadville. Pick wildlowers and view wildlife--there's something for everyone!

If winter activities are your goal, the beautiful village of Breckenridge is just a short drive north where you can enjoy premier Colorado skiing, dining, and shopping. Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, and Copper Mountain are also close. Or, stay near home and cross-country ski to your heart's content. We have it all!

The Irish Rose was built with families in mind. The main level has a great room with a gas fireplace and floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing the beautiful mountains and trees. It is surrounded by a huge 32x8 foot wrap-around deck. A full kitchen and dining area are also on this level to create an open, spacious environment. Pets are NOT allowed, No Smoking.

There are two main level bedrooms, one with a queen bed, and one with double bed and trundle geared for up to three kids. The great room sofa also pulls out to a queen-size bed. The master bedroom loft has a queen bed, washer and dryer, along with a small private balcony. There are full baths on both the main level and the loft.

The cabin also has a lower level with a private entrance in the back which is only used occasionally by the owners during periods of maintenance and upkeep. It is never rented and will almost always be unoccupied during your stay.

Experience the Rocky Mountains in the comfort of the 'Irish Rose'. At over 10,000ft elevation, it's as close to heaven as you can get!

Very nice and quiet stay at the Irish Rose
My family and I had a very relaxing time at this home. The house was very clean. The view from the main room was just fantastic to see every morning. The owner graciously allowed us to check in a little early since we were coming straight from a campground in Leadville. There were a few mosquitos by the hot tub, but this was expected due to the close proximity to water. We just set up a thermacell and enjoyed a nice soak. Lots to explore right in the “backyard” of the house. We hiked for hours and saw many wonderful rocks. The old mining facility nearby was a neat look into the past of the area. Initially what I felt was a complaint was the wifi that kicked your device off after about an hour and requiring you to log back in to use it, but I came to appreciate the silence of my phone and it really let me keep my eyes on the beautiful nature around us and not glued to a dumb little screen. Coming from Austin, Texas, it was the perfect getaway from the city and all the city sounds you never realized your brain just adapts to while in a big city. The sound of the river, the wind thru the trees, and the birds chirping in the morning without any other human-made noises felt like a different planet. A wonderful, peaceful, relaxing planet of calm. Thank you for letting us stay at your wonderful home and we would definitely like to come back many more times.

Awesome
Spent a couple nights with older kids and we had a blast. The property had everything we needed and was very well maintained - the pictures don’t do it justice. Tons to do on or close to the property with lots of room to roam and explore - we got to explore parts of the abandoned Brownload mine and even had a visit from a female moose which walked right up to the deck. Just a few miles further down Mosquito Pass we were able to explore the old North London mine. We definitely plan to stay here again!

Social Distancing Achieved
This was the perfect place to distance responsibly given this time. The entire family enjoyed our stay. Whether it was sitting on the deck, playing with all the games provided, kids learning what VHS tapes are or fishing it was perfection! Thank you for being such great hosts. We will be back!

Gorgeous land
We had a lot of fun. The place was gorgeous. Only minor gripe was the internet want working most of the week, but the ownersaid he was going to get that fixed. We didn't mind to much considering the gorgeous setting. Also this property is at a very high altitude so be ready for that. Altitude can make you uncomfortable if you're not used to it but this was mentioned in the ad and we were prepared.

Beautiful house in a beautiful place
We stayed here for our 30th wedding anniversary and loved it. The location is quiet and has a great view. Be advised though, the description doesn't mention that the hot tub is not available during the winter months. Given its location, it makes sense that it would be winterized for the winter, but we didn't realize this until after we arrived. Fortunately there are plenty of hot springs nearby that are open year round in Colorado. The owners keep the house stocked with virtually every board game and movie you'd ever want. Its all very well organized and maintained.

Great house, amazing location
Irish Rose exceeded our expectations in every regard. My wife and I, our nephew and his 2 children, 16 & 12 stayed for a few nights. I was hoping to find a home that was in a secluded and beautiful location -- this place fits the bill. The house was comfortable with 3 bedrooms and the common areas worked perfectly for a group our size. The furnishing and amenities were comfortable and totally satisfying both indoors and outdoors. There was a fun campfire area by the stream too. Board games and DVDs were available in abundance. The kitchen had everything needed to prepare a meal or have a barbeque. The nearby South Park Saloon served particularly great burgers, but is closed a few days a week. Driving out from the house and back was filled with awesome scenery. Within a reasonable distance we went for a number of high alpine hikes, went horseback riding (at American Safari -- highly recommend) river rafting in Browns Canyon and enjoyed Mount Princeton Hot Springs. We made one trip to Breckenridge for a bite and a little retail therapy, but were happy to return to the peace and quiet of the Irish Rose (and the stars!) The owner Rich was easy to deal with -- onsite was Kay, available to help but invisible except for checking to see all was fine and providing some home-baked goodies. If you're looking to be away from the crowd, this is a perfect choice. I hope to be back many times.

Beautiful, quiet, secluded and wonderful!
Beautiful place, clean, and a great help with the welcome book. Definitely secluded for privacy, but a caretaker lives under the cabin. Very quiet older woman, but still great! Land was wonderful to go exploring, gorgeous creek on property, and unbelievable views, especially from the hot tub of the night stars. Moose and deer was a wonderful sight!

Labor Day at the Irish Rose without the Bears?
The Irish Rose is a very well maintained property, very clean, well stocked with necessary utensils, etc. and very well and "Colorado." The house was not quite as near to the river as we would have liked but a short hike and we were there. It was however very close to the road which was more well traveled than we had expected. It was interesting to read about and see some the history of the area. We were also looking forward to seeing the wildlife talked about in detail but I guess they had the holiday weekend weekend off. Except the beautiful rainbow trout in the the South Platte which we caught several (and released back for next time). All we saw were a few mule deer at a distance on the afternoon of our arrival. No moose nor bears. Maybe next time as the Irish Rose will definitely be on our return list. Thank you Rich and family for a great place to stay.

Perfect getaway
Everything was wonderful. The hot tub was well maintained under a beautiful night sky. The home was thoughtfully equipped with just about anything you could need. Kay, the caretaker, was kind, available and helpful. We loved the lemon poppyseed cake she left for us. It is just remote enough. We enjoyed lots of breweries in the area.

A True Mountain Get-Away
The description of this property is spot on! It's extremely remote location gives you privacy and spectacular views, including wildlife. The owners have strategically placed a salt lick in a field that can be easily viewed from inside the house. We woke up one morning and looked out the big wall of windows and saw mama moose and her baby grazing and another night we spotted the male moose in the timber. There are trails and lots of land to explore. The running water sounds of the nearby creek were spa-like and so relaxing! My husband was able to catch a few small trout in the steam as well. The house had everything we needed. I was a bit hesitant about having someone living in the lower level but Kay ended up being a great blessing! The key wasn't in the box when we arrived (which is always alarming) but having her on location made getting into the house so easy. She was very helpful with advice on altitude sickness, local eating places, etc. when we approached her but otherwise, we hardly knew she was there. The only drawback of this location was the high altitude. We all experienced some sickness, even with drinking lots of water. My advice would be to buy a portable bottle of oxygen and use it. They can be purchased at the Al-Mart in Alma, which is an awesome little store, by the way! And the South Park Saloon in Alma was one of our favorite places to eat, with burgers that are ground fresh daily, buttermilk battered fresh pickles and pizza made from homemade dough and fresh ingredients! This location is also within driving distance of several places. We visited Breckenridge, Frisco, Fairplay, Buena Vista, Canon City and Royal Gorge. Overall, it was a really fun trip and a great lodging experience. I would highly recommend it for a family vacation!

Solitude and convenience
This is the place to get away from the daily grind. Lovely property with many areas around it to explore. We enjoyed hiking around and seeing the old mining operations, we panned for gold and had a memorable time. We built a sluice, named him "SLOUIE" and left him at the Irish Rose for future guests to use. We will definitely be returning again to make some more memories. Thank you so much.

Beautiful Family Friendly Cabin
Our family sure enjoyed our stay here, with three kids under five there were toys and lots of room to roam! We enjoyed being able to fish on the stream a short walk away. The kitchen was well stocked and the location just beautiful. We loved not needing to load up for a drive to activities because we could do so many there! We had no burn ban and were able to have a hot dog roast with s’mores one evening. Our only disappointment was the beds were extremely uncomfortable for all four adults and that made sleeping difficult. We did see several deer and a bear. Apparently the lady below leaves cereal out sprinkled out on the ground outside her door as it was there two separate mornings. The bear came and ate all it could get on our second morning there, and it reappeared the next morning. A bit concerning. Overall it is a lovely location and home, we hope to return!

Enjoyed The Irish Rose
We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed the peace and quiet. It is very secluded and in the summer surrounded by beautiful greenery and Colorado views. Keep your eye on the salt lick out the living room window! Watched the deer in that area! Be sure to check out the nearby town of Fairplay. We enjoyed the South Park City Museum pioneer town. A couple of the bar/restaurants in town have great mountain views on their back patio.

About the host

Hosted by Shannon Edmiston

Host profile image
We are a military family who built this home in 2002 and are blessed that we can share it with others!

Why they chose this property

We have long ties to this part of Colorado. The Irish Rose feels wild and secluded but is close to Alma and Faiplay, and a short drive to the mountain ski town of Breckenridge.

What makes this property unique

The Irish Rose has 10 acres of total seclusion with pine, aspen, a river, and amazing views. Many houses on the internet may look similar, but very few properties give you the total Colorado experience. It also comes with a "whole house" generator so you do not need to worry about the risk of power outages that can occur at other secluded mountain vacation homes! Look at our guestbook and see that it will be a unique and memorable experience!
