Nice house around trees and close to the beach

The house is great. It has a hot spa which worked great. The house is spacious and will fit 6 people. It is surrounded by trees and close to downtown Mendocino. Mendocino is a very cute town. Perfect place to escape and be in contact with Mother Nature.

Wonderful house in the redwoods

We just love coming here. This house is beautiful and quite large, sitting in a quiet spot in the redwoods. It is close to so many places to go too. If you want just sit and do nothing this is a great place for that. If you want to get out and do something new, this is also a great spot for that. All around a wonderful place that we will visit again many times.

Great stay at the Redwood Retreat

We really enjoyed our stay at the Redwood Retreat. It is quiet and secluded but still very near Mendocino. The living room was cozy with the gas-powered fireplace as a heater, beds were all very comfy. Some of our favorite things to do in the area include walking the Mendocino headlands and visiting the local bookshop, as well as heading up to MacKerricher State Park where we explored the tidal pools.

Laura is very responsive.

The house and property are great. The only issue we had was I’d reached out a few weeks before we secured the home to ensure the hot tub would be working. We were assured on multiple occasions it would be on in working order and that wasn’t the case. I did reach out to the contacts listed in the email as well as to Laura via VRBO. Laura was super responsive and when I told her I didn’t want to address the issue while on our stay not only did she understand but she took the initiative to reach out via phone, text and email the day after our stay to find a resolution. The only other bummer we had was there was more home than we needed as it was just two of us. We selected this location even though it was larger than we needed as it had a hot tub and fireplace. Would certainly stay here again if we went with the family. Oh yeah, Laura also went the extra mile and sent a small gift via Amazon. It’s my understanding that the hot tub not being in working order was news to her as well as she was genuinely surprised with my concern. Thanks again Laura

Weekend getaway

My girlfriend and I spent the weekend with my bother, his wife and two kids. Plenty of space for everyone! The beach is less than 10 minutes away. Relaxing on the deck with a cup of coffee and later in hot tub with a beer was all I could ask for. Great place for relaxation!!!

Weekend Getaway

Property was awesome. Felt secluded, but was close enough to town for necessities. Booked the place bc of the hottub, but despite the bummer of not being able to use it, very much enjoyed our stay. We are avid mountain bikers and took advantage of the proximity to Jackson Demonstration Forest.

Great Rental

We loved our stay! The rental home was clean and roomy with beautiful forest views. The kitchen was great; the owners provided good recommendations for local activities and instructions for the overall property. The location of the home is great; only a mile from downtown, 10 minutes from Fort Bragg , beautiful beaches and hikes, and 40 minutes from the vineyards!

Great house and property, but fell short of expectations

We booked this house for a week-long getaway in the midst of the pandemic. The property managers were great with communication, and we received the confirmation and instructions very quickly. They were also very responsive with our inquiries. The listing and subsequent emails we received said the hot tub was available and functional, but it was locked due to COVID restrictions. It leaked and there was stagnant water covering much of the cement back patio. I contacted the manager and she was quick to follow up with the owners and since we felt misled, they refunded us $200. Upon arrival, it seemed pretty clean but when I looked a little closer at the toilet top and the bathroom sink/vanity top, there were long hairs and pubic hairs on both that did not belong to us. It grossed me out and made me question how clean the rest of the place was. There was also a dirty sleeping mask that was on the nightstand in the master bedroom, and random stuff in the closets and on the shelves. There weren’t many floor mats to wipe our shoes when going in and out of the house and the property is dusty, so the floors were always dirty. The outdoor table was also really dirty when we arrived. The house and property are both nice and secluded in terms of visual privacy, but you can hear the two obnoxious dogs who live next door and were left outside most of the day and barked incessantly anytime they heard a noise. There were some shrieking children nearby and the sound carried. It was noisy about ½ the time I would say. The place is listed as accommodating 6-8 people but there isn’t enough outdoor seating to have a meal together with that many people. The outdoor space needs a fire pit or space heater to be able to sit out there at night when the temp drops, especially given that the hot tub wasn’t available. The kitchen was pretty well stocked but the cleaning people need to replace the moldy sponges. Wifi/TV worked fine, although if you planned to bring your own device, the TV is old and doesn’t have HDMI inputs. Beds were comfy. It’s rare that I give less than 5-star reviews for rental properties, but I feel that this place looks better in pictures and needs some TLC to merit the price tag. It felt run down and unclean overall, with issues that could easily and inexpensively be addressed. I would consider renting this place again with a guarantee of a working hot tub and some of these issues addressed. We loved the area and all outdoor activities available.

Cabin in the Woods near the Beach

Overall it was good, though the house was a bit older looking than in the photo. The house easily sleeps 6, but I’m not sure how you would get 8 to sleep comfortably there. There is only one full bathroom, which is downstairs and a loft upstairs (very hot during the day) with a half bathroom. The only TV is downstairs in the living room and very outdated, so we did not have any way to connect a gaming system to it for the kids. The hot tub was double locked and unusable because of a Public pool/hot tub County Covid ordinance, though I thought it only applied to public hot tubs at gyms and not residences, so that was disappointing to be there for two weeks and not be able to use the hot tub at all. The neighbors along the dirt road were fighting with each other while we were there, which was a tad unsettling. The mosquitos 🦟 were vicious!! Within a few moments of arriving after opening my car door to start unloading, I was bitten at least 6 times. Make sure to bring spray and use it often! You can hear the ocean 🌊 from the property , which is lovely in the mornings and you are not far from a few beaches. There is a lovely farm stand next door, if you coordinate your hours with theirs.

Christmas Vacation

This is a lovely cabin in the woods. We did have to reach out to the owner to get the check-in information just before our trip, which is usually provided through the Vrbo site in advance. The house was VERY cold upon arrival. Luckily we had dinner reservations and after we left with all heaters wide open for a few hours, it was warmer; but we still had to sleep in our clothes the first night. The remainder of the stay, we were comfortable. When I made the reservation, I commented that we were excited to find a place with a hot tub and fireplace, but found out upon arrival that the fireplace cannot be used. The owner should have responded disclosing this fact immediately, in my opinion. Even though the site now says that the fireplace is not usable, when we booked 8 months ago, it did not. It was a nice place to host Christmas Eve dinner for our family, and had most desireable amenities.

Beautiful stay

Lovely home in a beautiful location. Close to the Mendocino Camp where we were attending a wedding, close to town for being in society and separated enough to be perfect if you want a getaway. Two small things that made it less than perfect. 1. I did not receive the check-in instructions ahead of time. I guess I should have realized but this was my first VRBO so I assumed someone would have opened it up for us or it would be clear how to do so when I arrived. I was able to get the property manager on the phone from town (which is basically blocks away) right away and she sent me the file so that ended up being a minor inconvenience. 2. The Wifi is spotty at best. Generally didn't work at all in the mornings and would be spotty the rest of the day. But honestly, it's such a beautiful place that this might actually be a selling point as long as you know ahead of time. Would definitely recommend this place for a beautiful getaway.

Everything was good but we couldn’t enjoy the property because of the mosquitoes. I know that there are warnings about the mosquitoes and there are citronella candles around the property. We bought two new ones which were more powerful but it was still prohibitive to walk around outside.

Housing for my family for our wedding

I put my sisters and their families up in this residence for our wedding this summer and everyone was very pleased with their accommodations. I got there first to unlock the house and turn on some lights as they were getting in after dark and everything looked great. It is very close to the township of Mendocino but secluded enough to enjoy the trees and stars. I highly recommend the property :)

My family really enjoyed this location. Peaceful, beautiful, and well-equipped. The only drawback was the mosquitoes. They were everywhere, at all times of the day. I'd advise bringing and actively using spray, or else spending time outside will not be enjoyable.

Mendocino Magic Under the Redwoods

I've been going to Mendocino for more than 40 years and have stayed in all types of accomodations, from inns to hotels to other AirBnB facilities. I would rate this lovely place right up there with some of the more enjoyable. We loved the quiet of the property while being so close to town. And unlike a previous AirBnB a couple years ago, this cabin was clean and everything works. My only caution is that if you need reliable and speedy internet connections, this is not the place for you. Otherwise, enjoy the magic.

Beautiful property and cute home

My husband and I and three little boys, 6yo, 3yo and 1yo stayed here beginning of June. The house is cute and kitchen was stocked with the basics. The back deck with hot tub was great and the kids loved the outdoor shower! It's a beautiful private property, unfortunately we came during an unusual heat wave and there were no fans in the house except a ceiling fan in the upstairs loft so the house was very hot and muggy for the first couple of days of our stay. And with this heat the mosquitos were out of control, when ever we stepped outside they would swarm us within seconds, we tried mosquito repellent and off candles but it didn't help, so we were not able to really play outside and enjoy the beautiful property as much as we'd have liked to because we would get eaten alive! But overall, it was a nice place to stay.
