Boasting ocean views, a dog-friendly attitude, and space for a large family, this home in Charleston has everything you may need to have a fantastic coastal getaway!

Located just three miles down the highway from Charleston, which itself is about a 15-minute drive away from Coos Bay and North Bend, this home is perched within sight of the ocean. It is also right on pathways that lead to the nearby Sunset Bay State Park and Bastendorf Beach State Park, where you will find shores with sandy beaches to play on. In nearby Charleston are several charming eateries, though for more options you can take a 35-minute drive south to Bandon or a 20-minute drive into Coos Bay and North Bend.

This three-bedroom, two-bathroom home is equipped to handle up to 10 guests (six adults maximum), so it's perfect for a large family traveling together, and you can even bring along as many as two dogs, though please be aware that a nightly dog fee will apply. There is a ramp leading up to the back door, to make entry a little easier for anyone who may have trouble with stairs. Inside, a living room has plenty of seating, a wood-burning fireplace, and a TV. Entertainment choices around the house include DVD/VCR players, a selection of movies, cable TV, board games, books, and WiFi access.

In the full kitchen you will find everything you need to whip up tasty meals during your stay, which you can enjoy at the four-seat breakfast bar or the eight-person dining room table. On the main level are two bedrooms (one with a queen bed and ocean views, and the other with a king bed) and a full bathroom. The bedroom with a king-size bed even has a ladder that leads up to a sleeping loft with a full-size bed.

Upstairs, a master bedroom has another king-size bed, a sitting area, and ocean views, and there is also a second bathroom on this level. Another loft, accessible via pull-down ladder from the dining room, has two twin beds, so there are plenty of spaces for everyone to rest! Outside is a large deck you can sit back and relax on.

This home is great for a large family, two families traveling together, or even a group of friends. Because it is so close to the sandy beaches, the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, and plenty of other fantastic indoor and outdoor attractions, you will have no trouble finding ways to stay busy here!

Come stay at this lovely, spacious, oceanview home in Charleston and enjoy a much-deserved coastal getaway!

If you are bringing a dog on your trip, the pet fee is already included in your quote when selecting ‘Yes’ to pets. If you would like to add more dogs, please contact us. The pet fee is per stay and ranges between $150 and $200, depending on the bedroom count, and will apply for each additional dog.

HATS house

The location was incredible! Close to Cape Arago, Sunset Bay, Shore Acres State Park. The house itself was a great size with older fixtures.

Crashing waves

We travel to this area a lot and this house was lovely. I slept perfectly to the sounds of crashing waves from the cozy bed. Kitchen was fully stocked for all of our cooking and baking. The only downside was that no coffee was provided (minor) and check out is at 10am which is crazy early and not customary.

Clean, comfortable spacious

This was our second Christmas holiday stay at the Hat house. Comfortable beds, well suited for generational family stay. Accommodations were clean, kitchen well appointed, and we enjoy using the fire place.

Nice House and Location

Overall the house was great, plenty of room and we like the location near the State Parks and beaches. Room for improvement on pots and pans, and also on having DVD player correctly hooked up.

Very nice and close to Shore Acres

The house was very clean and had everything you need for a comfortable stay. Very quiet neighborhood after the evening traffic died down. We went to Shore Acres to see Christmas lights and it only took 5 minutes to get there.

Great for a family visiting the South Coast

The house was very comfortable. We used the small fan at night and opened the windows. The king bed in the upstairs bedroom was very comfortable and had the perfect pillow for me to get a good nights sleep. The bathroom was comfortable. We really enjoyed the dining space and the living room too. Our group of four was very happy with our choice to stay at the HATS house.

Coastal Family Getaway

Although it was a stormy weekend, the house was just perfect for our grandchildren and great grands. There were plenty of comfy beds and toys & games for the kids, as well as a well stocked kitchen for cooking. As mentioned, it was extremely windy and rainy but no flashlights or candles were provided in case of a power outage, which thankfully didn’t occur. Communication with the host appeared to be a property management company, and replies were slow and never by the same person. We reported an issue with the drain in the bathtub, and didn’t receive a reply until days after checking out. Despite these minor detractions, we enjoyed this pet friendly home, and would book again.

Great place!

The Hats house is a comfortable house. Great for families with dogs and kids. The yard is not fenced (fyi for dog owners). Close to the beach. My only issue with the house was there was dog hair on the sheets in the upstairs bed. Other than that issue, we enjoyed our stay and we would stay here again.

HATS House

The house was clean and as advertised in every way. The beach across the street is not accessible so you need to walk or drive about a mile to get to a beach. If you drive there is parking. Bastendorff Beach is the closest, is very nice and is pet friendly (most other beaches require dogs on a leash). The hikes around the coastline at Shore Acres incredible. Our dog loves this place

Fun home with great location and views!

If you want to be right next to the water and the forest at the same time, this house is perfect! There was plenty of room for our large family group of 9. The house has a unique layout (some would say a little odd) with features that definitely make it feel more like a home than a bed & breakfast. The 3 twin/full beds are only accessible by ladder (2 in the dining room loft and one off a down stairs bedroom) which is fun for the kids. There are 2 bedrooms with queen beds downstairs and one king bed upstairs with a beautiful little sitting area to look out over the water. The wrap around deck was perfect to dry out our gear after hitting the waves and the grass area is perfect for lawn games or a dog. Sunset Bay Beach and Yoakam Point are a short walk away and Bastendorf Beach had some great surf. Lighthouse Beach can be reached from the trail to Yoakam Point. Great views of the Cape Arago Lighthouse from there too!

Hats house review

Towels are getting a little threadbare but we liked the Dove soaps. Living room was large and nice. Deck was nice but it needs to be weather treated. It’s getting rough. Nice place though overall.

Great property, great house, the only complaint I have is that all of the outside trash bins were full when we arrived so any trash that my party of nine accumulated had to be put on the ground by the bins which allowed any critters free access to make a mess.

HATS House

We had a very nice stay, despite the storm. The house was very roomy, and we were provided with plenty of linens and dishes to use. It worked out to be a decent landing spot while we vacationed with family and visited family friends. The house was fairly safe for our almost toddler to crawl around in, with supervision of course (she loved the kitchen but the cabinets open really easily at her level), which worked out well for us. We recommend Fisherman's Grotto in Charleston for lunch or dinner, and the Kozy Kitchen down the street from Walmart for breakfast. There's also a quilt shop in Barview that's nice. Plenty of beach access, either at the State parks or off Bastendorf Beach Rd. There's a county park off Bastendorf that has great ocean views and a playground, but great views are abundant in the Coos Bay area. The Coos Bay library also has a lot to offer for very little kids.

House needs a little maintenance

Few issues with some of the plumbing. Elbow rings under kitchen sink need to be tightened. Upstairs bathroom doesn’t have hot water, only lukewarm. Toilet paper and paper towels weren’t stocked. Overall it’s a nice place. Just needs some maintenance work.

Comfortable place

We had a great stay at this house. It was old yet it’s got character. The kids had fun looking for nooks and crannies all over the place. The lofts where they slept was a new experience and was perfect. Great yard where they ran around although we had trouble getting into the garage to use the bicycles and wasn’t able to do so. Family enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub. Great park was so near the place. People before us had left over coffee which was great since we didn’t have any. Only thing that would be very helpful would be a light lit out on the porch for travelers who arrive late. That was pointed out as well by the previous guests and made perfect sense since we arrived late in the night. Next time, we wouldn’t mind staying there again and exploring Coos Bay more.
