Another great stay
This is the 3rd time of staying here and just as good as the first time. The best equipped house we’ve stayed in with everything you need for a great stay away from home. The home made welcome cake is also very impressive. No doubt we will be returning again.

Fantastic stay
Another fantastic stay at rough park, the property as always was spotlessly clean and thoroughly maintained. My children love playing outside on the play area. The property is secluded enough to feel very private albeit you’re only 2 minutes from a shop in nearby Delabole or 10 minutes from the main roads heading towards pastow, port Isaac etc…thoroughly recommended

Easter
We had a lovely time at the cottage. It’s well equipped and a good space for adults and kids. The kitchen is a great social area and the garden was well equipped for he kids. The only thing I would at is the location is not great for walking to the local pub or anywhere, you need to drive. Overall we had a fab time and would recommend the cottage.

Holiday Review Rough Park Farm
We found the property comfortable (best holiday beds ever had). Secure garden for children. Ample parking . The only criticism we have is that the windows look as if they have not been cleaned in a long time both inside and out . Overall a very good experience and would certainly revisit and recommend . Best wishes Martin and Brenda

Good value for money
On arrival we were greeted with milk, wine and juice in the fridge and a lovely, big cake! The rooms were a good size for us and the house had some lovely games and books for the children. The kitchen was well equipped and the shower and bath were excellent. The outdoor play equipment really made it for our children. They had a lot of fun playing on them in between trips every day and the owners had helpfully left a slip and slide and some other fun outdoor games in the outhouse. Overall a really pleasant stay in a lovely property. I would definitely recommend it to other people who want to explore a bit of Cornwall.

Lovely family home
We stayed at Rough Park Farm for 6 nights and had the best time! We are a group of two families including 4 children (three of which are under 4 years old) The play park was a massive hit with the children and meant we could relax in the evenings while they played. In addition to the park there was a great selection of toys, games, books and coloring books and pens for the children. as well as a number of outdoor games and beach toys in the shed. The home made cake that was left for us was also a lovely touch and was delicious! The house was cosy and the kitchen/ dining area was great in the evenings for us all to gather together to eat and play games. We enjoyed visiting Port Issac, Padstow (for crabbing!) and the beach at Polzeath was beautiful. If we came to the area again we would not hesitate to stay at Rough Park again. Thank you.

Lovely house in good location
We are a family of 6 with kids ageing from 3 to 13, we found the property perfect for our needs, the house was very well presented, very clean and tidy and everything you could want for your stay, the amazing cake and welcome pack on arrival was greatly appreciated, it’s worth coming back just for the cake! The bedrooms and living spaces were great with plenty of space for everyone, the outside areas were well maintained and the playground was excellent. We spent most of our time in the kitchen which had everything you need and is a great space to be together. The location of the property for us was ideal, polzeath / Rock beach only a quick drive away and the house was located close to the main roads to Newquay etc... overall we found the property fantastic, a lovely house in a great location.

Friendly and Welcoming in a Beautiful Part of the Country
Thank you so much to Ian, Maureen and Brenda. We had a great week with our family exploring the area as we had not been to this part of Cornwall before. Such a beautiful place and Tintagel was just up the road, as was Port Isaac where Doc Martin is filmed. There are so many gorgeous beaches and towns around that we would love to revisit in the Summer months at some point. The farmhouse itself felt very homely and welcoming with everything clean and well cared for and all the equipment you could need. Ideal for a family to spend time together and we made full use of the kitchen with family meals in the evenings. We had an Easter egg hunt in the garden (even though the kids are grown up) which is a fantastic space and thank you to Brenda for the amazing cake when we arrived and even an Easter egg! Provisions were in the fridge too and we were very grateful. Highly recommend!

Early Summer Break
The property is fabulous, exceeding all expectation. We've stayed in lots of selfcatering accommodation and this is by far the best. The young ones enjoyed the play area and there are nice areas to sit inside as well as outside.

Fantastic escape
This is a wonderful , beautiful cottage. Immaculately clean and spacious. Everything you could possibly want in a holiday let. Ideal for exploring cornwall. The children loved the play area and Lincoln age 5 didn't want to leave, he wanted to live there forever. The smugglers fish and chips in delabole are amazing.

Really lovely stay
This is a fantastic house, it's perfect for a large family or two families sharing as we did. It's great for children with a lovely outside play area. We had an amazing welcome with a cake and biscuits waiting for us and milk in the fridge! The large kitchen / dinning room is a lovely place to spend time in. All beds were really comfy with fresh crisp linen. The house is decorated really nicely and has a lovely home feel. Its in a great location with Polzeath, Tintagel, Boscastle all in an easy drive. The only draw back is that it is close to the busy road, however you cant hear the traffic inside so it didn't bother us, but you might be aware of it if spending time in the garden. We would really recommend this house and Ian and Maureen as hosts. We had a fabulous week there! Thank you

Exceeded expectations!
You know from the moment you step in the kitchen, that the people renting this house care about your enjoyment of the stay. The kitchen is so well equipped, so comfortable for a family to hang out in. The bedrooms are snug and comfortable and quiet with little sound travelling between them. The linens and towels are soft and clean and plentiful. Our kids loved the gardens and the play equipment too. Also if you have any concerns or questions they are dealt with swiftly and kindly. Couldn’t ask for more. It was an excellent base for all kinds of adventures in Cornwall. Thanks for a terrific stay.

A week at Property ID 6920978
Lovely property. Fabulous kitchen and cosy lounge. All bedrooms are of a good size. Grandkids loved the play area which kept them occupied for many an hour. Well stocked kitchen too. Well situated for accessing many areas of the coast line. Just be careful on the minor Cornish roads, they are not made for today's traffic.

Lovely getaway
This was our second time visiting rough farm, again everything spot on, we love the big kitchen / family area, spending the evenings together. The outside area Is great, the kids (even the older 2!) playing on the play area at any chance they got. An always welcome addition is the yummy cake, this was particularly well received as it was my daughters birthday whilst we were away. Lots of great memories created, hopefully we’ll be back next year!

Fantastic cottage!!
Just returned from 2wks at the cottage which we did not want to leave. The cottage is so well equipped and in such a lovely location - I wondered if it’s proximity to the road would be an issue but we hardly noticed it. The kitchen is just fantastic and there was a welcome pack including a huge delicious sponge cake, milk, juice and wine when we arrived. The coziness of the sitting room far outweighed the low beams which my 6 foot 7 son got used to. The owner was also really helpful and super quick to resolve an issue we had. We would definitely return : )

Spacious property in a great location
This property is really well kitted out and has everything you need in terms of facilities and utilities. Cot and high chair also provided. The garden is amazing and the kitchen is really nice too. Brilliant location to get to Bude, Tintagel, Port Isaac, Rock, Polzeath a within 20 mins and Padstow only 40 mins away too. We were welcomed with wine and an AMAZING sponge cake. Only down side is that big supermarkets are quite far away. No internet either but that wasn't a problem for us. We loved our stay. Would definitely stay again.

About the host

Hosted by Ian and Maureen Fairbairn

Host profile image
Ian was born and raised at Rough Park.
Today Ian runs 2 companies, one providing film, media and training services, the other is a robotics and automation business.
Ian and Maureen live in North Yorkshire with their four children.

Why they chose this property

Rough Park was built sometime in the 18th century probably because it has access to good quality well water. The well and the proximity to the road meant Rough Park was a well known stopping point for travellers and in particular gypsy families. The road opposite the farm is known as Gypsy Lane and as late as the 1970’s gypsies would regularly stop to request a “kettle of sweet water.”

The farm was originally part of the Boconnock Estate but along with many other farms in the area was sold off after WW1 to pay death duties.

My great-grandfatherbought the farm in 1919 and it has been in the family ever since. My sister and I were born here.

What makes this property unique

Private children's play area.
Large property.
Great location for exploring Cornwall.
Within walking distance of Cornish Coast Path
