About this property

Oyster Barn, Titchwell, Norfolk

Formerly the local oyster shucking shed, Oyster Barn is a magnificent detached barn conversion with sea views, located in the tranquil coastal village of Titchwell. Sympathetically renovated to retain historic maritime charm blended with modern features such as the superb viewing platform. Situated within walking distance of the Coasthopper bus stop, leave the car behind to explore the coast. RSPB Titchwell, Briarfields and Titchwell Manor are all within walking distance.

Oyster Barn beautifully encapsulates modern coastal living, with an aura of pastoral charm. Boasting unique and phenomenal views across the marshland to the sea beyond, this exquisite hideaway exudes tranquillity and calm. The once threatened marsh harrier thrives here, and can be frequently observed wheeling in the sky above. In autumn and winter, up to 100 birds roost in the RSPB reserve, and in spring and summer they are active pairing up and feeding their young. Built in traditional Norfolk stone, the drive up to the barn is instantly impressive. The grand entrance hall welcomes guests to feel immediately at home. The impressive sitting room features exposed stone walls, deep sumptuous sofas and a wood burning stove. Nestle in after a day spent exploring to revel in the warmth and ambient light that fills the room. Under an apex ceiling, the light and bright kitchen is well-equipped to provide all that enthusiastic chefs need to create a delicious feast made from the area's rich local produce. The Everhot range cooker is a delight to use and also provides background warmth on chillier winter days. A round breakfast table is the perfect spot to share a morning coffee to plan the day ahead. Steps lead down to a generous dining area where a large oak table invites eight guests to take a seat and create lasting holiday memories. From here, french doors open to the outdoor patio area, inviting in the fresh sea air. Hosting a super-king size bed, the master bedroom with en suite bathroom is located on this floor, making it ideal of any less mobile guests.

Three well-appointed bedrooms are presented atop the bespoke switchback staircase that leads to the first floor. Bedroom two hosts a double bed and is served by an en suite bathroom. With superb views of the marshes, bedroom three offers a super-king size. Twin beds are available in bedroom four. All bedrooms have been thoughtfully presented in a muted colour palette, and beds are dressed in good quality linens to ensure guests experience a deep restorative sleep. The latter rooms are served by a good-size family bathroom featuring bath with shower over.

The real wow factor in the design of this property is the special viewing platform. Ascend the oak ladder to experience the bewitching panoramic landscape of the marshes. Ever-changing and bustling with wildlife, guests will feel truly connected to nature as they observe this remarkable habitat. When the weather is less than stellar, sitting up here watching the sea and sky over a coffee or glass of wine is truly rewarding. Also be sure to catch a sunset and partake of stargazing. Over the last few years, the Northern Lights have been visible here several times a year when conditions are right.Outside, to the front of Oyster Barn, the private lawned area with patio is perfect for dining al fresco from the gas barbecue when the sun is shining. A further lawned area is located on the west side of the barn. To the rear, a charming south-facing, sunny courtyard is a real sun trap, and bikes and paddle boards can be stored securely in the gated courtyard. Ample off-road parking for up to three cars is also available.

Titchwell is a flourishing natural habitat where guests can observe a vivid plethora of species at the RSPB Reserve, or take a stroll down Gypsy Lane to the beautiful sandy beach which is home to a colony of grey seals. Nearby Titchwell Manor is one of the best eating establishments in North Norfolk Briarfields Hotel and Restaurant is also just a few minutes walk away. Oyster Barn is truly a wonderful base from which to discover all that this spectacular part of Norfolk has to offer.

A lovely stay!

We had a wonderful time staying at this idyllic barn in a beautiful location. After a few early hiccups, the owners were incredibly helpful and made sure our stay was everything it should have been.

spacious, comfortable, warm, well equipped. Ten of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Was lovely and warm when we arrived, used the log burner to boost the heat in the evenings. All furnishings and equipment were first class, everything we needed was there. Loads of space, there were 10 of us including children who were able to do their own thing and not be on top of each other. We were able to park 4 cars in the yard. This part of Norfolk we have visited before, lovely and peaceful, great area for long walks, lovely and relaxing.

10/10 Excellent

Excellent family place to stay

Oyster barn provides an excellent place for a group or family stay- we were very comfortable and there is lots of space and everything you could need. The weather was cold and often rainy but the house is cosy , warm and welcoming. Very nice bathrooms, comfy beds and of course the great viewing platform from which we watched seals and birds whilst having our early morning coffee. It is a lovely touch to have a welcome hamper to greet guests and find everything we needed to light the fire in the evenings. We drove over from our house in france and it was so nice to find a lovely place waiting for us after our long journey. The whole family would love to come back and I noticed in the guest book that many people do indeed return again and again- what better recommendation!

Long weekend stay

Lovely big house located 10 mins from the beach. Nice and quiet too! In between two hotels / bars. Not sure about the viewing platform from the kitchen though! This looks like a death trap and so would say not suitable for young children.

A very comfortable cottage in a wonderful location.

We stayed in Oyster Barn for Easter with my family of 8. I choose the property because of its location and the upper viewing platform overlooking the sea and marshes. We have 2 very keen bird watchers in the family and my husband was in the Titchwell nature reserve early every morning. The cottage is very comfortable, it had all we needed and possibly more than expected. We played cards in the evening round the large dining room table and chilled in the beautiful living room. Plenty of seats for everybody. Cooking on the Aga proved to be a little bit of a challenge for us, but we managed and actually it was quite an experience. The area ofcourse is beautiful. Long deserted beaches along the coast and plenty of quaint villages and cozy pubs. Besides many long walks, we also enjoyed The Lifeboat Inn, Shuck’s Yurt and Danish fashion at Nelle’s. All just down the road in Thornham.
