About this property

Luxury Manor House in the Burgundy Vines with Heated Pool and AC throughout

A gem of a property in the heart of the Burgundy wine region.
Our Domaine sits among the vines in a peaceful valley to the south of Beaune. Dating from the late 1600s, the locals call it the ‘chateau’, but the property has always been more of a baronial farm than a residence. It was, in fact, the winery for the local lords, as the surrounding vineyards, an antique wine press and a hundred feet of vaulted cellar attest.

The property has been recently transformed into a luxury farmhouse complex dedicated to the enjoyment of the culinary traditions and the natural beauty of Burgundy. With six luxurious en-suite rooms in separate buildings set around a courtyard within the acres of a walled-in park, Domaine de Cromey offers modern comfort and quiet sophistication in a setting from another era.

The Dining Hall is a magnificent room laid out around an original 18th century wine press, with an open fire, flag-stone floor massive oak beams, a lounge area and bar, and a monumental staircase that floats through the space above.

The Salon has parquet floors and oak-beamed 'plafond a la française'. An open fire with the original fire-back dating from 1716 is the focal point of the room, and a restored Pleyel baby grand is the center of attention. Seating for 12 comfortably.

The open-plan semi-professional kitchen is in the center of household activity. Sliding metal 'atelier' doors allow the kitchen to be versatile, open or closed as needs be. Three ovens, eight burner on two tops, three refrigerators, two work islands and lots of storage make this an ideal work space for those interested in the culinary pleasures of Burgundy. An herb garden is just out the door in the courtyard. A separate bread house serves as a summer kitchen, with wood-fired oven, fridge, plancha and prep and clean-up surfaces.

The heated pool sits below the main terrace with a magnificent view across the park and down through the valley. There are four furnished terraces around the main manor house, so there is sun or shade at any time of day.

The walled in park below the manor house is an arboretum set in five acres, with specimen trees dating back through the history of the property. The majestic cedar that dominates the lower park and is visible from miles around, is said to date to 1802, planted to commemorate the crowning of Napoleon.

A hundred feet of vaulted wine cellar is a reminder of the importance of the Domaine as a wine-making property. Seven acres of new vineyard plantation above the compound is part of our estate.

Professional laundry facilities are available for guest's use.

The whole property is air-conditioned.

Upon request we also offer some meals prepared by a professional chef.

10 stars!
Absolute heaven, you want for nothing. Ellie and Dennis have restored the property both inside and out to welcome guests with 21st century amenities while retaining the old world charm of Bourgogne. We were a multigenerational family of 6 who stayed for 2 weeks. Joss and Aoife made many sumptuous meals including a homemade pizza party! Peter’s two wine tastings introduced us to the bounty of Côte d’Or. Bernaud and Mirabelle keep the grounds lush with flora. They are an incredible team of highly skilled hospitality professionals. Many, many thanks to all of them. We can’t wait to come back.

Best in the Cote de Beaune!
Our stay at Domaine de Cromey was incredible. We were a party of 12 who love wine and food. The house was absolutely perfect for us. Huge, well stocked kitchen and gorgeous patios and rooms to gather and sip wine. Each of the 6 bedrooms were perfectly even in their appearance and made choosing rooms very simple. The bathrooms were extremely clean and ours had a towel warmer. We had a beautiful meal prepared by Joss that would put any of the Michelin starred restaurant to shame. Pizza night was so fun and the 16th century oven building was amazing. We also had a wine tasting with Peter that by the end of trip resulted in the purchase of two cases that we can’t wait to receive. But the prize was Aoife who was attentive to our needs and a huge help during the week. She is pleasant and darling. You will love her! We all had the most magical week in the best place to stay in Beaune!

Something for Everyone
Our group spent two weeks at the property and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The property managers were first class, always available, supportive of our needs and willing to help with making local reservations and offering tips for what to see. They cooked two dinners for us which were outstanding and helped to keep our kitchen clean after all of our cooking. We also did a wine tasting with them - highly recommended - in their wine cellar. The house was as advertised, spacious, well-decorated, with a well-provisioned kitchen; and the fact that all the bedrooms had en suite baths was a big attraction for our group. Sunny days allowed us to be in the garden, on the patio and in the pool. Nearby walking on quiet roads and in the vineyards was a plus for all. The location is close enough to Beaune and wine-tasting opportunities to make it easy to travel to them. We would highly recommend the house and their property team; communications before and during the visit were great. We had a terrific experience and thank them all for their experience and expertise is managing large groups.

Amazing house and caretakers
We had an amazing time. The house is beautiful and on a great property. The best part: Steven and Lilly. They made us dinner, got us groceries, helped us with restaurants and taught us about Burgundy wine. They basically made the trip for us!

Wow
We’ve rented a lot of other villa, chateaux and domaines, but this one was the best! The six en suite bedrooms were all the same size and had the same amenities so none of the six couples had a less than optimal room as we’ve experienced in other rentals. The two on-site staff were wonderful and spoke perfect English (they’re Irish so not a surprise). The location in Burgundy was perfect for day trips. If you book this rental, you’ll be delighted!

You will love this place.
Le Domaine is the most beautiful and well equipped house ever. Better in the flesh than the photographs suggest. We stayed as a group of 11 extended family members and a couple of babies. Largely because of babies and children, we wanted a place with a pool where kids could be when adults were doing other things. Le Domaine was perfect for this. Dennis and Ellie, the owners, have a history of taking groups to rental houses around Europe. They took notes and used them in renovating this property, resulting in attention to detail that makes everything work for a large group. I cannot think of a single thing that was lacking in making the house work for us. There is an exceedingly well equipped cook’s kitchen. Every bedroom was beautiful with en suite bathrooms. They have cribs and the ability to turn the bedrooms (or at least some of them) from queen beds to twins. The bedrooms are arranged in pairs with good separation from other pairs of bedrooms. All are well away from public rooms where there might be noise. There are even two pairs of washers and dryers, so no queue for doing laundry. There are multiple outdoor terrace areas and a stunning view from the salon terrace over the pool to the hillside village beyond. The house is about 40 minutes from Beaune in a beautiful rural area. It is a great cycling area. The Voie Verte that runs from Santenay to Nolay might be the most scenic ride in Burgjndy. Once you get on it, you are completely separate from cars and riding on the level through stunning vineyards all the way. The house is also close to the Canal du Centre which is another great biking opportunity along the old towpath. Beware that the house is uphill from both, so the return may be a bit challenging for some riders. We rented bicycles from Bourgogne Randonées in Beaune. They were delivered to the house and were in mint condition. Mustn’t forget Stephen and Lilly who are the house managers. They live in a separate area of the property. They are a delightful couple with an enviable history of adventurous living. They were completely unobtrusive, but there to meet any need we might have, including doing the shopping for us one day. On the subject of shopping, do not miss the Sunday morning market in Chagny. There are dozens of vendors with beautiful local produce, cheese and meat, as good as can be found anywhere. I could say much more, but seem to be cut off by HomeAway.

Incredible property with first class service
Our group rented the Manor for a week, with five couples and seven children. The sprawling property accommodated our group and never once felt crowded. The house has been spectacularly remodeled recently, but maintains the charm of a centuries old villa. Stephen and Lilly are the most wonderful hosts, very welcoming and kind. The hosts lives in a house that is tucked away adjacent to the Manor and are as available or as scarce as you would like them to be. It would be a shame to visit the property and miss out on their wonderful cooking (for a very reasonable fee), Lilly is a particularly accomplished pastry chef. Stephen is a wine instructor with passion for Burgundy and offered a fantastic wine tasting, catered to our tastes. All amenities you could imagine are offered, but with no pressure and all the flexibility you could hope for. I can't recommend this property enough, I certainly hope I am able to visit again and again!

The best place we have ever stayed!!
This was the best place we have ever stayed. The house is architecturally beautiful, very spacious and the owner has updated the property to an extremely high specification which makes the stay very comfortable indeed. The setting and grounds are stunning and there is a lovely swimming pool. The best part of the trip is Lilly and Stephen who live next door and help you with everything. They are what made our stay so very special and their cooking is 2 Michelin Star plus. We were two families travelling together and we all fell in love with this ace and the Burgundy area. A fantastic house and a very memorable stay
We enjoyed a very special week in this outstanding house in the beautiful Burgundy Region. We would, of course, highly recommend it for wine enthusiasts (a topic about which we learned a lot !) but it also worked very well for us as a venue for an extended family get together. The experience was enhanced further by taking up the option of a 5 course catered dinner in the house one night which was absolutely first class. David, Ingrid, John, Kirsten & families.

Simply Amazing!
We has the most amazing time at the Chateau! The pictures do not do the beautiful property justice, on site and surrounding areas very well kept and very quintessential, especially views during afternoon pool time! Each room is very comfortable and luxuriously appointed. Great thought went into unique details of each room and space and privacy for a large group. The best part of the whole experience was the wonderful staff, who produced incredible meals for us, and made sure that our every need was met. It was a vacation that we will not soon forget. Wonderful stay and would recommend this property to anyone who wanted to immerse into the French wine country.

Amazing! The pictures do not do this beautiful property justice
Dennis & Ellie were wonderful hosts. Cromey’s history, location, and accommodations combine for an amazing time in Burgundy. The meals at the estate by Stephen & Lilly were some of the best with the added benefit of personal touch! Highly recommended

Best Property in France I've ever stayed in!
Beautifully renovated, well equipped house, ideal for family/ friends gathering. Three quite separate sets of 2 double/ twin bedrooms with en-suites and seating areas, so plenty of privacy. Well equipped kitchen (loads of fridge space) and separate bar/ fridge/ dishwasher area. Plenty of seating and dining space both inside and out on two terraces. Kids loved the pool and outside space, playing volley ball in the garden. We enjoyed the views and quite surroundings. My parents enjoyed the local towns and villages; and the cakes! Daily cleaning included by lovely housekeeper/ gardener (Marie and Mark) who live next door. We didn't know they were there except when we needed them. Marie catered for us for a couple of evenings and despite us being an awkward bunch, no dairy etc... food was delicious and very reasonable. The area is beautiful if you have the energy to travel, Beaune and Dijon are worth a visit and the nearby Couches with a lovely Chateau has a delicious Patisserie/ Boulangerie. We took the train from Chagny to Beaune to visit the Hospice and enjoyed a wine tasting. There are lots of vineyards to visit and taste at, we wished we'd organised some tours before we arrived as the owners can advise on this. You will not be disappointed booking this house, we have stayed in many houses in France over the last 30 years and this is undoubtably the loveliest. We hope to return.

Superb house in a lovely setting
We loved staying here. The house is full of character and very comfortable. With the giant wine press in the dining room and the vines across the lane, you certainly know you are in Burgundy. We really liked the mix of antique French furniture and original contemporary art works, so nicely done. The kitchen is beautiful and really well equipped, and the market in Beaune is amazing for fantastic local produce. Apart from driving through all the famous vineyards and going wine tasting, we really enjoyed visiting the Chateau at Rochepot and the ancient market at Nolay. The countryside is very pretty and great for walking, but best of all, was just sitting drinking wine on the terrace, enjoying the wonderful view and tranquillity. We booked the Eurostar to Le Creusot which made the journey really easy and quick. You can pick `up a hire car at the station and then it’s just a short drive down quiet country roads which felt a world away from London. Would definitely recommend!
