About this property

Close to Downtown plaza

Creativity similar to Meow Wolf is one of the keys to creating an interesting place to stay.
This property has solar lighting outside. There is also plenty of privacy and cushy sofas and beds to lounge about both inside and outside. While sitting outside in the maze of solar lights you can see all of them randomly switch on while enjoying the new evening.

This is not the typical sort of listing you may be accustomed to . Please look at the pictures before choosing this listing. Please show the pictures to your other guests prior to booking. There are around 30 solar and other lights that switch on during the course of the evening. (all of the lights are gentle on the soul) The environment is intentionally tuned to the level of natural solar light nature provides. Some of the lights are on timers and an occasional motion sensor which provides some playful ambiance to the creative spirit.

Sleeping
There are 2 cozy sofa's and a single bed in the common area for extra guests.
The master bedroom has a king bed and a sofa.
The second bedroom offers a queen size bed with a reading light for those that like quiet.

The location is idea. It is only one block from the Santa Fe river. You can walk or bike to the natural food store that is about 500 yards to the east on a nice bike path along the river and through the woods.

The opera is about 12 minutes to the North so you can be on time for your tailgate dinner and opera performance. The downtown PLAZA is a 7 minute drive to the east and most of the shopping is a 7 minute drive to the south along Cerillos Rd. There are 2 locally run breakfast and lunch diners within a mile from the house. This is the absolute perfect location for your holiday needs because of it's central location to everything in town including great restaurants less than a 5 minute drive by car.

Plenty of places to relax at this cute house

The owner, David, was very helpful and easy to get a hold of. Comfy beds, couches and nice big chair big enough to sleep on in living room in front of the TV. Great spot to walk to the plaza downtown, took us about 30 minutes to get to the square from this house, very pretty walk through the neighborhoods on the way. Kitchen has all the appliances you need, but we did need to buy some cups to use. Plenty of storage for your luggage and clothing items. Very lovely front yard and porch to sit on. We had a short 2 day stay, would've been great to stay longer it was very accommodating to our family. Thank you!

Conveniently located, fun, quirky place to stay!

We enjoyed our stay in David's unique property! And it IS unique - my 17 yr old son LOVED everything about it - but he's quite quirky himself :-) We stayed in December and enjoyed the cozy fire and the ability to play games and cook dinner and watch Netflix all together after exploring Santa Fe. There were 6 of us, so we definitely pushed the limits of the occupancy. I'd love to come back in the summer and enjoy the outdoor areas. You could play "I spy with my little eye" a thousand times here and still not catch everything!! (He advertises a "hot tub" but it didn't appear to be working - we probably wouldn't have used it since it was so cold and we were cozy inside, but just a heads up).

Perfect Place to Stay to Get Into a Meow Wolf Vibe!

Overall, our experience was good, the house was as described, and we felt very safe. The flowers outside were gorgeous, a nice plus! I was sad that the hot tub was broken, but David was waiting on a part which was out of his control. Make sure that you read the description well. David's description is VERY clear. This place is a creative art project in progress, so you need to be the kind of person who can appreciate having the necessities: a nice comfy, CLEAN bed, HOT shower, and a full kitchen (stocked with water, eggs, and coffee, TYVM), but you must be ok with (and be able to appreciate) "projects in progress." Trust me, you will leave with some new indoor/outdoor decorating ideas! David was EXTREMELY flexible regarding check-in as I had to Uber over and had scheduled other things on the day of our arrival. The place is super close to Meow Wolf (must see) and Counter Culture (salads appear to be rare in Santa Fe), and it was an easy distance to 10,000 Waves and Dale Ball Trails (both highly recommended). The lights and quirkiness of the place were super fun. The kids thought it was insane! After we went to Meow Wolf, they got why I had picked the place. At night, it felt a bit like hanging out at a burn event. This place definitely has a burner/hippie vibe. I hope you enjoy your stay!

Funky awesome place to stay!

I stayed here for three days with 5 other members of my senior capstone project while we presented at a conference in town. We loved the atmosphere of Camp David and will definitely be back when we aren't stuck in meetings all day! The owner was extremely accommodating and friendly. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay!

Funky, fun, comfortable, and cocooning.

My friends and I loved this place! The owner walked that perfect line between giving us our space and being available/making sure we had everything we needed! The only tweak I would offer would be that the place was listed as "4 bedroom" which isn't, by our estimation, 100% accurate. I mean, it slept the four of us really comfortably and we were really happy with it, though!

Great for your Santa Fe stay!

Fantastic place to stay! David is very welcoming and has great knowledge of New Mexico and he goes out of his way to make sure you know local activities, restaurants, and fun things to do! Felt a little like a Santa Fe version of Alice in Wonderland. He is a master of lighting and his yard was like a step into a new world. All the beds, sofas and chairs were extremely comfortable and clean. He has big screen TVs in every room and a 3D TV in the living room that was AWESOME! This place is very close (within 8mins) from most popular things to do in Santa Fe and equally close to the highway to leave town. Hot tub is CLEAN and well maintained. Only complaint was he charged me a little extra for leaving the floor dirty when the floor was already dirty when we got there. We actually swept up some of the dirt into a pile and then couldn't find a dust pan so he probably saw that when we left and thought it was ours. We left quickly so he probably would have asked us about the dirt before we left if he had the chance. All over great place, great owner, a great choice.

Rainbow lights cape

The unconventional with a lovely home with a sense of play. We loved the privacy in the hot tub, the laser lights in the yard. It was sort of a mystical experience. The sunsets and views from the property are absolutely amazing. The grounds are wellsprings of wonder with art work a la burning man meets meow wolf set with a hot tub three open air fireplaces, budding fruit trees and pines. The Master bedroom sports a king size brass bed with wall to wall carpet, big screen tv, hidden sink and fridge and was eloquent and we loved watching a net flix movies and amazon streaming. The living room sports a real fireplace and art.........neon bull skulls, neon art pieces, and mission oak furniture. Located two miles from the historic district, we were a block from the river walk where spring was evident everywhere. ahhhhhh

My friends and I stayed here for three nights. We cooked, enjoyed movies and the wonderful space and creativity this place has to offer. It is definitely a different and relaxing experience for the value.

About the host

Host profile image
My name is David Wiles. I have lived in Santa Fe for around 19 years. I came from Santa Fe with basically very little and have created a lighting extravaganza here at my listing. I assure you there is no listing like what I have created.

I have a passion for traveling the world for 2 to 4 months at a time plus enjoy my yearly sojourn to Black Rock City in the Nevada Desert for 14 years.

My most recent passion is creating light with G scale or garden train layouts. I have around 400 feet of track on the property and 10 locomotives with a circus train as well as passenger cars that light up at night. I started the train hobby around August of 2017. It has grown very fast.

I try to stay current in life with exercising my creative side. I am blessed to have tools and experience to fabricate some of my ideas into various unique and interesting sculptures of light, water, and fire.
From my travels and work as a glass blower of neon lighting for the last 12 years I have what some people call a love for lighting. I love the multi colored lasers which add an amazing lighting effect to gardens and water features in the warmer months.

I have also designed 3 fire sculptures in the yard and 2 water sculptures that live on the property.

My friends often remark about how my place has an interesting appearance of burning man meets Meow Wolf. Every month there is a new lighting feature on the property. (this varies durning seasons)
Part of my creative passion to visualize and construct sculptures with fire and water, crystals and laser lights. I mentioned that I am adding video on the train locomotives that gives the observer a real time view of the journey of the train around the track through a jungle of lights and crystals. (current project)

I also studied percussion at Interlochen Arts Academy and Oberlin Conservatory and am fond of great music and have performed in Carnegie Hall and most of Europe with symphony orchestras. I have retired from performing .

Why they chose this property

I purchased this property several years ago because there are no neighbors to the back of the lot line which offers more privacy. There are a number of trees through out which attracts all kinds of birds during the warm months.

This was the easiest and most convenient of my properties to create into a master piece. It is centrally located to most of Santa Fe and it's location offers a quick escape north to Taos while being about 2 miles west of the Plaza.

The opera is also located 10 minutes from our front door to the north with Meow Wolf only a 5 minute drive the other direction. There is also a lovely river walk right out the door of the house. The river often is not running however when it does it is even better for short walks. The beauty of this property other than the central location , is the added water features in the fall, spring, and summer. I have enjoyed making this place into a lighting mecca as well and the interesting array of lighting, crystals and water features. There is noting like it in any listing that you will find on VRBO.

What makes this property unique

Based on the feed back I have heard:

You will not find another place in Santa Fe with the decks and sunset views plus a lovely propane fire sculpture. New to the 2019 season is G scale train set up which I am happy to show guests on request.

We are very close to the Meow Wolf installation and most convenient to down town and a block away from the Santa Fe river walk.
