About this property

Studio St Jean is a ground floor studio apartment for A MAXIMUM OF 2 people in a 400 year old building in the heart of the medieval town of Bayeux.

This is a perfect location for anyone booked onto a D-Day tour of the Normandy beaches or a shuttle bus service to Mont St Michel as all tours leave from Place de Quebec which is less than a 2 MINUTE WALK from the apartment.

The studio has been remodelled over the winter of 2022/23 with new wooden flooring and a new king sized bed, a comfortable sofa, free wifi, TV, a dining table with dining chairs, a fully fitted kitchen area with hob, sink, microwave/oven/grill and fridge with freezer compartment. There is also a new shower room/WC with extra large shower cubicle. The studio overlooks a private courtyard which guests are welcome to use with the café set of table and chairs that are stored in the studio.

Although the studio is on one of the main streets of Bayeux the double locked door entry means that you get no traffic noise from the street, just the occasional seagull to remind you that you are only 5 miles from the beach.

Rue St Jean is a very up and coming part of Bayeux with a real village feel to it. There are many new boutique type shops, restaurants, bars, cafés, beauticians and hairdressers all within a five minute walk and on Wednesday mornings there is a great street market. Just around the corner, about 150 metres is a laundromat.The road is closed to traffic from 1 June to 1 September. On Saturday the main market is held in Place St Patrice, which is less than a 10 minutes walk. The UNESCO listed Bayeux tapestry is housed in a building less than 5 minutes walk away and the incredible medieval cathedral is a similar distance and there is a bike hire shop less than 50 metres away and the area around Bayeux is mostly flat. The railyway station is only a ten minute walk or a short taxi rid. In short, there is no real need to hire a car whilst you are in Bayeux but should you wish to do so, there is plenty of safe parking within less than 5 minutes of the studio.

The train from Paris takes 2 hours and there are frequent trains to Caen, which is only a 17 minute train journey.

Normandy mini stay

Great studio right on the Main Street for restaurants in Bayeaux. Short walk to laundromat and the tour pick ups if you need. Car park is a short walk and studio has all that 2 people would need. Bed is comfy and large. Street noise is very minimal even given the location. Sally was readily contactable. We were very happy.

Right in the centre of the lovely little town of Bayeux, within walking distance of local attraction

The only thing to remember when travelling throughout France is a lot of shops open around 10am and some shops close for lunch. Some shops aren’t open on a sunday., and some close halfday on a saturday. I’d suggest planning your trip around this, as if in a self contained apartment you may find the little supermarket a couple of doors up closed...so no food😳 Great pattiseries along the main street.

Perfect in every way!

This accommodation proved to be excellent for us: we planned on a lot of touring and walking and we were able to accomplish both easily. The room is an ideal size with modern appliances and sufficient closet and cupboard space. Very pleased!!

Central and convenient

Could not get more convenient for restaurants and tours with the office of tourism just a few metres away. Definitely would suit couples. The apartment has all you need. Great place.

Beautiful!

Beautiful apartment, fun location close to everything in Bayeux. Within walking distance to museums, the Cathedral, a laundromat, and many restaurants. Grocery store a few doors down had everything we needed. The street is busy with foot traffic and nearby restaurants, but we had no problem with noise in the apartment, it was very quiet. We found free street parking within a walking distance and that was more convenient for us than the pay lots. Host met us at check in and gave us instructions about the water heater and other features. Truly a fabulous apartment and location!

Great place to stay

We were a tad late arriving, and our host was wonderful about making sure that we arrived safely and had what we needed. The apartment was easily accessible, and a great location for restaurants and activity. We could walk to the cathedral and the tapestry museum easily. Parking was difficult because we were there during the D-Day 80th anniversary so I can't blame that on our host or our apartment. I would definitely stay at this location again if we ever return to Bayeux.

Perfect Location

The ground floor studio apartment was perfect for my husband and me. It was located in the middle of town, next to a grocery store and many restaurants, etc. It was also very handy to the pick up site for the various tour groups in town. Although it was located in the middle of town, it was so quiet. We would definitely stay here again if ever back in Bayeux.

Great stay in Bayeux!

Sally and Mike were helpful and excellent about communicating with us. They showed us around the apartment which was tasteful and exactly as described. The location couldn’t have been better in downtown Bayeux! We walked everywhere. This apartment is perfect for a couple. Charming with a small kitchen. We didn’t cook dinner but sometimes had breakfast and sometimes lunch in it.

A wonderful place to stay to tour the D Day sites

I am so glad I found Sally’s place because it was absolutely perfect for us. We loved having a location in such a lively area. Sally answered several questions ahead of time to help us prepare for our trip and had useful information available in the studio. And the bed…so large and comfortable!

Bayeux studio

We were here for three nights.This place was immaculate. It was a great location, right in the center of shopping and restaurants and steps from our Omaha Beach pick-up point. There is a grocery store steps from the front door. In a stone building and facing a courtyard, it was quiet even though there was lots of activity outside on the street. We had taken the train from Paris and walked to the unit from the train station.

Fabulous stay in Bayeux!!

If you’re planning on visiting the Normandy, battle grounds, or Mont Saint Michel you couldn’t have picked a better place to stay. The apartment is immaculate and such a cozy spot to stay. The showers have hot, hot, running water. The windows being opened up, bright and cheery, and the air conditioning works fabulously, owners hospitality was well noted and we will come back. Hopefully soon, the town of Bayeux is so fun. There’s so many places to eat and stroll. The tapestry and the cathedral are absolutely beautiful and the town is clean and friendly. thank you!!

This apartment in a very old building was very updated and modern. The location was ideal in this beautiful medieval town. It was very clean,comfortable and quiet. We could walk to everything and a had a picnic in the enclosed stone courtyard. Highly recommend it. We had a private tour of Normandy that was excellent. Location!

Cute, updated apartment. Ground level. Quiet. Fully furnished. Very comfortable bed. Sally welcomed us as we arrived and introduced us to the apartment. And that was it. Wonderful and pleasant after the days’ travel from the hustle and bustle of Paris. (Note that we had no car and do not know about any parking situation.) The best part? Location! We found ourselves in the middle of the very quaint restaurant and shopping area of Bayeux. You might think, “Oh the noise and busyness.” No. This old Europe town was untouched by WWII. The street is a walking street. You are 3 minutes walk from most everything (restaurants, grocery, pharmacy, shops and tours). The abbey, park and tapestry are less than 10 minutes. All of that from where you enter the outer door from the street. A few steps later, you enter the apartment. Outside is not noisy anyway but then the apartment is completely quiet. Nice! Would definitely do again.

Great location

The studio is conveniently located to shops, restaurants and a full grocery store. Everything is within walking distance, including the tour pick up location. Like the other reviews state, the studio is very quiet, despite being on a busy street. You could probably even walk from the train station, Assuming you don’t have a lot of luggage.

The property and location far exceeded our needs and expectations. We would return again. Studio perfect for us and spacious. Town offers all amenities and close to D day activities as well. Rented a car so very accessible to all areas!

Michael and I are an Anglo/Irish couple who grew up 20 miles north of London, where we worked for many years. We moved to Normandy in 2003 and ran an award-winning B&B for 13 years but recently saw the need for more short-term self-catering accommodation in the highly popular town of Bayeux.

Why they chose this property

Bayeux has always been one of our favourite towns so it was an easy decision to buy and renovate Studio St Jean in late 2014 when it came on the market. Since it's opening in May 2015 it has been full for 80% of the time, with some wonderful feedback from our guests.

What makes this property unique

Studio St Jean is located in one of the oldest streets in Bayeux, right in the heart of all the shops, restaurants and bars, with a fantastic market every Wednesday morning. We love that it is right in the centre of everything and yet, because it has a closed entrance it is still as peaceful and quiet as if it were out in the country.
