About this property

Cosy 2 bedroom cottage in pretty Godstone Village on the North Downs in Surrey

A traditional 2 bedroom terraced cottage built in 1860 in the historic & very pretty Surrey village of Godstone. The village features in the Doomsday Book and was once a stopping off point for royalty traveling from London to the South Coast. It has many quaint old buildings and a traditional village green complete with duck pond. There are 4 attractive pubs in the village, a cafe, tea rooms, a post office, small food shops, antique and gift shops, a chemist and a farm shop selling locally produced meat and vegetable, plus a Tea Room. it is 3 miles from Oxted town which has a large supermarket, shops and a great selection of pubs & restaurants. There are some lovely local walks in the area and it is ideally located for exploring Surrey and Sussex and also has easy links by train to central London and easy access to the M25 motorway. Gatwick airport is a 15 min drive from the house and Heathrow airport is approx 30 miles via the M25 motorway. The house has an enclosed porch with cupboard, coat hooks and shoe storage space leading to a cosy sitting room with fireplace, bookcase, sideboard, side tables, internet, gas central heating and 40" wall mounted flat screen Smart TV. There is a large very well equipped kitchen diner with electric cooker and hob, microwave, slow cooker, sandwich toaster, coffee machine, mixer, hand blender, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. We have equipped the house as our second home and provide plenty of crockery, cutlery, glasses, and cooking pans. You will enjoy our luxury downstairs bathroom with his and her sinks and fabulous shower/bath. Upstairs there is a double bedroom with king size bed and cotton bedding, wall mounted smart TV and plenty of wardrobe space and a very small single bedroom equipped with bunk beds (suitable for 1 adult on the bottom) and a chest of drawers. There is a handy second toilet with sink upstairs. The house is best suited to 3 guests, although 4 can be accommodated. Please note that the house is not equipped for very small children and isn’t suitable for children under 3 due to the open stairs. The house is set back from the road with a long front garden and another enclosed garden to the rear of the property which has a small deck, stone patio and large table with 6 chairs and garden umbrella. There is plenty of free on and off road parking in the side turning next to the house, this is unrestricted and a cul-de-sac.

Cleanliness good. We had a bit of a issue with the keys trying to get out of the property. Lovely downstairs bathroom and very handy to have a WC upstairs The garden was a little untidy. The location was perfect for our family celebration.

Beds very uncomfortable, double bed had springs poking out. Nowhere to sit in the extremely over grown garden which stank of dog urine. Definitely not worth the money charged.

Lovely clean cottage
The house is very well kept and spotless. The kitchen contains all the amenities you would need for a long term stay. It has served us very well while waiting to exchange on our own property. Perfect size for two adults but with the second bedroom we were able to squeeze my parents in for a weekend too. Lots of great walks and pubs within 5 minutes walk. We’ve really enjoyed our stay.

Workable accommodation but overall a bit disappointing.
House adequately furnished and kitchen well equiped although shortage of serving bowls. Our major disappointment was that there was no real outside to sit. Garden in front unkempt and no seating and a lot of traffic on road. Back garden has potential of being nice but seating and table broken and covered in debris of dead leaves which blackened wood. Washing line broken and had to repair. Again garden unkempt. So overall interior tight and reasonably presented but outside did not match description.

Great Location
This property was in a great location on the south side of London very convenient to the M25 and M23. Also very convenient to rail stations to catch trains into central London. We had family in the area it was easy to visit them. The parking situation appeared to be somewhat of a hassle upon initial arrival, but it worked out ok. We were able to find a space regularly off of the street back behind the building. Otherwise, there is no place to park on or near the property, which can make unloading and loading luggage more difficult, especially if it is raining. All of the spaces were reserved for other units or the few common spaces were always full. The three common area spaces were full of vehicles that never seemed to move over the 6 days we were there. The master bedroom was very comfortable, but the bunk bed in the second bedroom was not the best for an adult. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans and dishes, but we did have to buy paper towels as there were none provided. If you are a tall or large person, beware of the stairs as they are a bit tight, however typical in the UK for older buildings. The hosts were very attentive and quick to respond to questions. Overall, we had a nice stay here, but wanted to point out the few issues we had.

Rental Nightmare
We had the idea prior to arrival of a quaint cottage. Quirky it was but definitely not what we had imagined. The garden was badly neglected with broken and unusable furniture. Access to the garden via a short shared use path. Since our early departure mid week the revised online view shows the completed update to the garden. Too late for us, confined to the cottage on the hottest week of the year. We had pre booked tourist attractions in London with return rail fares up to and including Tuesday. For that reason we didn’t leave on the first day of arrival. For my wife and I the only good thing about the property was the departure. A very very disappointing break. I hope we never again have a similar experience. Overall rating of one star because I couldn’t award zero stars.

Great cottage, great place, great people
We really loved our stay at this little cottage the most out of all our places during our road trip through England. Godstone is a lovely little village and the only people we met were absolutely kind and sweet. Unfortunately we had a small car accident when we arrived while trying to park and didn't know what to do. But we just rung the door bell of a neighbour who was very kind and helpful and fortunately knew the person whose car we had bumped. Everyone was so kind and helpful. We would always drive to Caterham Railway Station to park there and took the train to central London which overall was pretty expensive but was still cheaper for us with three people and a car than living in London for the time. The cottage looks smaller in real life than on the pictures but it was still pretty great. The kitchen was so well equipped, there was a washing machine and dryer as well as an ironing board and iron. I really loved my room and my bed but the bunk beds are not perfect for two very grown teenagers (18 & 19) ;). It's a better fit for smaller children I believe. Nevertheless we would definitely stay here again if we were around and can definitely recommend this place even for longer stays.

We currently live abroad but use the house when visiting family in the area. My daughters live nearby and manage the property for us.

Why they chose this property

It is a cosy warm cottage in a beautiful village in Surrey, ideally located for touring the local area, visiting National Trust and nearby attractions but also with easy access to the M25, Gatwick airport and local train stations to London. The house is very homely and comfortably equipped with everything you need for a relaxing stay. The village has a wide range of beautiful old pubs within a short walking distance all serving food, if you don't fancy cooking. Central London can be reached within 20-30 minutes by train.

What makes this property unique

Fabulous location for both country and London access, loads of lovely country walks around the village.
