About this property

APARTMENT SURROUNDED BY GREEN IN A FEW STEPS FROM ASSISI

The accommodation

Beautiful farmhouse in the countryside just 900 m from the walls of Assisi with private entrance. Large private garden with gazebo overlooking the valley of Assisi. Apartment with entrance and private parking.
The district:
From the farmhouse you can make beautiful walks in the surroundings, reach the historic center of Assisi through a panoramic and flat route. At 100 meters from the house there is a bus stop that arrives in a few minutes in the historic center. Bars, restaurants and market at 200 mt.

A tour around:

Church of San Damiano
San Damiano is the ideal starting point to better understand the life of St. Francis, it is in fact the place of the conversion of Francis, in which the Saint listened to the voice of the Crucifix: "Go and repair my house". He restored the church and adapted the proto-monastery to Santa Chiara. Two years before he died, still here, he composed the Canticle of the Creatures.

Sanctuary of Rivotorto:
The Sanctuary of Rivotorto which houses the Sacred Hovel inside (sec. XIII): a very modest shelter chosen by San Francesco as a dwelling place for himself and his first companions. It is defined by many as "the cradle of the Franciscan Fraternity".

West of the Sanctuary, about 1 km away, there are the churches of S. Mary Magdalene (sec. XII) and of San Rufino d’Arce (sec. XII). Eastward, about 2 km, the Church of the SS. Trinity (Sec. XII) and towards the city the Church of S. Giovannuccio (sec. XVI).
All these places have witnessed some of the most salient episodes related to the conversion of the Saint and the founding of the Franciscan Order.
Not far from the farmhouse there is a riding school that has an agreement for wonderful horseback rides and a characteristic farm with a donkey farm, an ideal trip for families with children.

Assisi Historical Center:

Basilica of San Francesco
From 1230 it preserves and preserves the mortal remains of the saint, previously kept at the Basilica of Santa Chiara. Francis himself pointed to the lower hill of the city, once called Collis inferni, as a place where he wanted to be buried. That hill was renamed Collis paradisi and on it was built the basilica formed by two superimposed churches and the crypt where the remains of St. Francis are kept. The decorations with frescoes by Cimabue and Giotto are worth mentioning.

Basilica of Santa Chiara:
It began in 1257 with the construction of the church and adjoining convent of the Poor Clares, who from 1212 had lived in S. Damiano. Built next to the church of San Giorgio, where Francis was temporarily buried and where the Saint was buried 12 August 1253. Here beyond the remains of Santa Chiara is also the Crucifix of San Damiano which was transferred by the Poor Clares in 1257.

PLACES TO VISIT IN UMBRIA:
Perugia: the historic center is full of beauties to be discovered. From the National Gallery to the Etruscan Well, from the San Bernardino Oratory to Corso Vannucci, from the Fontana Maggiore in Perugia located in the center of Piazza IV Novembre to the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, from the Rocca Paolina, an ancient fortress built by Pope Paul III for the panorama admire from the lookout next to the church of Sant'Angelo della Pace, in via delle Prome in Porta Sole.
Gubbio: it is the oldest center of Umbria which has preserved its medieval appearance both in buildings and in the streets. Like Assisi, the history of this other city is also closely linked to the figure of St. Francis and in particular to the encounter with the wolf. The Church of San Francesco is the place where the wolf took refuge to spend the night and it's just one of the things you can visit. Starting from Piazza Grande, the city's main center, a tour of the monuments, from the Palazzo dei Consoli to the Palazzo del Capitolo up to the Duomo and the Church of Santa Maria dei Servi, will allow you to learn about the history and legends of Gubbio.
Todi: medieval city, stands on the top of a hill overlooking the beautiful Tiber valley. To visit: the Duomo, the Palazzo dei Priori, the Palazzo del Capitano and the Palazzo del Popolo.
Orvieto: rises on a characteristic tuff cliff. To visit: the Duomo, the Rocca, the Pozzo di San Patrizio, Palazzo del Popolo, the Papal Palaces.
Spoleto: Medieval village. To visit: the Roman Theater, the Arch of Drusus and the early Christian Basilica of San Salvatore, the Eroli Chapel with the beautiful frescoes by Pinturicchio, the Chapel of the Relics with the fourteenth-century statue of the Madonna and Child, the Duomo, the Palazzo Arroni, the Church of Santa Maria della Manna d'Oro.
Spello: born on a spur of pink stone of Mount Subasio and seems to lean forward to welcome visitors. To visit: Roman amphitheater and theater, views and historic buildings in the medieval streets of the historic center.
Cascata delle Marmore: a few kilometers from the center of the city of Terni, created by the Romans to drain the Velino river, is the Cascata delle Marmore which gives a wonderful scenery with waters that make a jump of 165 meters.
Lake Trasimeno: people like Goethe, Stendhal and Byron have found inspiration in this lake. To visit: castles, villages and the natural scenery along the lake.
The Fonti del Clitunno: underground springs that extend between Spoleto and Foligno and feed the Clitunno river with their waters. In ancient times it was believed that in the depths of these waters the God Clitunno dwelt, in honor of which three temples arose which were then lost. Only survivor of those buildings, a small temple in which some ancient frescoes of Umbria are kept.
Norcia: birthplace of Saint Benedict, first monk of Christianity and founder of the Benedictine order. The gastronomy of this area of Umbria offers high quality flavors such as: cured meats, truffles, spelled, lentils and cheeses. To visit: Basilica of San Benedetto, the Duomo, the Castellina and the Civic Museum are also of great interest.
