About this property

Beautifully renovated townhouse in central St Ives with garden & gated parking

Hillside is a beautifully renovated and generously proportioned Victorian townhouse that comfortably sleeps 6 (8 using the sofa bed), located in the very heart of St.Ives. Internally, high ceilings adorn the property which has 3 bedrooms, all of which feature fully lined blackout curtains, with the addition of stylish sustainably sourced teak shutters in Bedrooms One and Two.

The house also boasts 4 bathrooms, 3 of which are en-suite to the 3 double bedrooms and all feature high quality fittings by Italian designers Porcelanosa. As well as 2 separate living areas on the ground and first floor and a stunning large, private rear garden with sun terrace (a real rarity in St. Ives), there is also a private balcony to the bedroom at the top of the property affording wonderful views to the harbour, the Island and Atlantic Ocean.

Conveniently, Hillside also comes with its own private parking space in a gated, private car park directly opposite the house - a rarity in St Ives.

A double entrance leads to a bright and airy hallway featuring polished marble monochrome tiles. Bedroom One, immediately off the hallway, is a beautifully tranquil and spacious room comprising a double bed, large bay window with floor to ceiling double-glazed sash windows and shutters. This leads to an large ensuite bathroom complete with glass-fronted shower.

The adjacent Bedroom Two faces the rear of the house with views over the St. Ives rooftops, provides flexible sleeping accommodation and comprises a double bed, which can be separated to form two single beds if required. This bedroom also has its own en-suite bathroom with a large bath and accompanying shower.

Continuing along the hallway is another bathroom, with a glass-framed rainforest shower. Beyond lies the Garden Room - a gorgeous and peaceful living space affording views over the rear garden and the harbour beyond making it an ideal place to watch TV, read a good book or simply admire the view. A sofa bed enables this room to be utilised as a fourth bedroom if required taking the total number of potential guests to 8.

Upstairs leads to a landing and onto the main living area - the entire floor is open plan with a dining and living space that benefits from dual aspect windows which let the light flow in, but framed by floor to ceiling shutters to afford privacy as needed. The state-of-the- art open plan kitchen-diner seats 8 comfortably and features Siemens appliances throughout, as well as touches such as Dualit kettle and toaster, a wine fridge and Nespresso maker..

The living area features comfy seating and an ultra HDTV with surround sound and Apple TV. Technology at Hillside also includes WiFi and a Sonos wireless sound-system throughout the property.

Back on the landing, which also houses a w/c, a door opens to reveal a spiral staircase that leads up to the top floor and one of the house's best assets - Bedroom Three, in the eaves, with a double bed and en suite bathroom. Externally, a glass balcony can be accessed from the bedroom's glass double doors to afford a spectacular panoramic view of St. Ives harbour, the Island and the ocean beyond.

To the rear is the large fully enclosed garden - a special place and a real rarity in St Ives. Accessed via a spiral staircase from the Garden Room, it features two substantial decked areas with comfortable seating and dining areas - one nearest the house and another at the end of the garden under the pergola with pendant Edison lights, allowing you to enjoy the long summer evenings in the privacy of your own outdoor living space, with an adjacent firebowl. There is ample room to enjoy dining al fresco, with table, chairs and parasol and a Weber Grillmaster BBQ. The garden can also be illuminated with spotlights focused on the 3 palm trees in the central planting areas.

Great property..fantastic holiday.

We have had the best week at Hillside with our 2 teenage children. Stunning big property with all the mod cons. Very comfortable lounge area both on the middle floor and the garden room on the ground floor. The garden is beautiful addition to the properties that you find in St Ives. Fantastic location to both the beach and town. We would not hesitate to stay here again, it is a real credit to the owners.

A comfortable house

All in all we enjoyey our stay very much. The house was clean and a great location. There was a huge dissapointment: One of we reason we chose the house because on your website it sait that it has a beautiful garden and we very much look forward to it. Unfortunately it was impossible to sit outside due to the mess from the segals. Either the landlord needs to improve the garden with the better garden covering over both sitting areas or he should not advertise it the way he did. The garden needs same tlc.

Disappointing property and garden

Treacherous spiral staircase to garden and top bedroom. Third bedroom under eaves completely. Bathrooms tiny and only two showers. Sitting room functional but not comfortable for lounging. Standard of fit out basic. Good location fortunately and we had good weather so we were out for most of the time. Have had other properties in st Ives for similar budgets that were much better. Wouldn’t stay here again.

Great property very well located in the centre of town and walking distance to beaches. Property well set out and everything you need for a stay including a bottle of prosecco and clotted cream scones on arrival. Great to have a parking space and outdoor seating area. Perfect holiday house

Wonderful second week at Hillside. Having warm and sunny weather we were able to enjoy the lovely outside area and bbq, and beautiful Porthminster beach which is just five minutes away. Getting a mid stay clean was much appreciated. A big thank you to the lady who carried out that job fantastically.

Fabulous house

We had a fantastic first week at Hillside. It easily accommodated our large group and being able to sit out in the lovely garden was a big plus. The house had everything we needed for cooking/beach etc and having parking just over the road made it so much easier. Location great as well. Far enough away from the crowds but just a short walk to the shops/restaurants and front. If we came back to St Ives we would definitely stay at Hillcrest again :)

Wonderful house in the very centre of St Yves

The house is ideally located in the centre of St Yves, only a stone throw from the harbour and beach and close to all the (coffee)shops and other amenities St Yves has to offer. It is spacious and welcoming and we spent a wonderful time in the area, soaking in the fresh air and sunshine just after lockdown eased. We will be back!

Summer getaway

Hillside was a fabulous property right in the heart of St Ives. It was perfectly situated for the beaches and harbour with the rare benefit of allocated parking. So much space and a beautifully presented very well equipped house that was all we wanted and more. Would highly recommend it as the perfect base for St Ives and the surrounding area.

Excellent location with great facilities.

We had a lovely week staying at Hillside, the location is very central although as it is St Ives the roads are narrow and steep so driving larger vehicles is quite the experience. The house had excellent modern facilities and all was clean and tidy. I would definitely recommend to friends and family and stay again. The check in details were spot on as was all the other information provided.

😍😍We will definitely be back !!

What an amazing property. We have had the most amazing stay at Hillside. The house is beautiful, clean, light and airy. I would love to own this house. On arrival we were greeted with freshly baked traditional Clotted Cornish Scones and a beautiful bunch of alstroemerias in the kitchen. This the perfect location to stay in St Ives with great access to Porthminster beach, the harbour and the lovely narrow shopping streets. Mark & Sophie quickly replied to any queries we had before and after we’d booked here and were extremely helpful with information about the area. The folder of information in the house has extensive information on your stay and some recommendations for food. Would highly recommend Hillside if you are thinking of visiting St Ives and booking . Thank you Mark & Sophie

So much more wondeful than we had expected!!!

Hillside is a dream of a holiday home. Newly renovated to a high end however the charm of the era it was built in is still intact. The entrance door and marble floor were stunning and a great welcome after a long drive. My favorite thing by far was the views from all of the windows - especially being able to view the old church on the hill from the garden room. My young daughter squealed with delight when she saw the spiral staircase that led to the top bed room - delightful. Mark and Sophie were so helpful and very quick to get back to our enquiry from the minute we booked. All our needs were fully met. We were welcomed with a lovely bottle of red and scones and cream and a beautiful arrangement of flowers. A most memorable stay and will not forget Hillside - we were very reluctant to leave. The location was fab - a slight hill to stroll down to all of the great cafes and ocean. Mark and Sophie have put love into this home and provided a very comprehensive, detailed guide to all or the stay requirements. Home was very clean, everything we needed was provided. Stunning !!! I give this property and 5 star - brilliant - loved it!!

What a wonderful property in a great location with everything you need to have a wonderful holiday

I did a lot of research on the internet to find the perfect holiday let for my mum and I and I was not disappointed. The house was really well appointed with all the mod cons. The decor was lovely and modern and very tastefully put together. The bedrooms were lovely to sleep In with comfy beds and lovely soft bedding the ensuites were beautifully fitted out with underfloor heating a nice touch. The landscaped garden was really appreciated as there is not a lot of out door space in st Ives so to have a lovely space was great. We couldn't get enough Of the amazing view from the attic room balcony on the roof which looked out across the town below and you could see the sea front just. It's is a perfect location just a few minutes walk to the sea front and main shops. We had a brilliant time and would recommend to anyone considering a holiday in st Ives. Hope to come back again soon

Fabulous house. Spotlessly clean, really well equipped and great location

The house is in a great position in the town. It is well equipped and very comfortable - be aware that the spiral staircase to the garden is quite tight and could be rather challenging for some (A basket on a rope would be helpful for supplies if eating outside 😊) Otherwise we really couldn't fault it, we would definitely look at booking again

Gorgeous Hillside ~ Perfect Location

Sitting a top Skidden hill, a stones throw from Porthminster beach and the Harbour, this heavenly home is a perfect retreat from busy town centre and offers comfort for both beach and rain days. The owners offered good tips on the area and we could not have enjoyed it more. We will be going back.

Mark's love affair with St Ives began as a child thanks to family connections to Cornwall and he's been going back there ever since. He took Sophie there on holiday after they got married in 2015, and she loved it so much that they ended up leaving with the keys to Hillside in their pocket! Until they move to St Ives full time, they are happy to share their dream home with couples, families and groups of friends through VRBO. Please do get in touch if you have any questions at all. Why they chose this property

We fell in love with Hillside the moment the door opened and we saw the fantastic long hallway with polished marble monochrome flooring. We spent ages looking for 'the one' and this is definitely it.

There's something special about Victorian houses and this one really is a unique proposition in central St. Ives. It feels like a home from home and our guests thus far seem to agree. Come and experience it for yourself.

We love the feeling of light and space that Hillside affords - much like the town itself. Throughout the house feels sophisticated, contemporary and very comfortable. On every floor you'll find interesting features and places to relax.

The large garden at Hillside is also a rarity in the town, with 2 decked areas ideal for sunbathing and enjoying a BBQ. The garden was completely transformed by local designers and in early 2017 to give it a real a 'wow' factor.

We love our iconic St Ives street, Skidden Hill and no wonder we get people stopping outside and taking photos! From its elevated position overlooking Godrevy Lighthouse to the middle distance, Hillside is tucked in next to St. Ia church. You'll find everything you need under a minute's walk away - from a post office to pasties. A short walk in the other direction brings you to the gorgeous Westcott Quay from where you can take a level stroll to the stunning Porthminster Beach.

Mark’s top St Ives tip: Visit The Tate and the Hepworth Museum. Don't be afraid to explore galleries - there's something to suit all tastes and budgets. We can recommend where to buy great local art - we know the best galleries, their owners and artists.

Sophie’s top St Ives tip: December is one of my favourite months in St Ives – there's so much going on! Christmas markets, ghost walks, festive restaurant menus, the Lantern Parade and so much more. It tends to be dry and crisp too, making it perfect for coastal walks followed by a cosy pub lunch and ending the evening with a Hillside bath.

What makes this property unique

They say: "One of our favourite rooms is the Garden Room - a ground floor living room and an ideal place for adults or children to enjoy a movie, to read or simply to enjoy the views out towards the harbour beyond. The Garden Room also has a sofa bed which can, if necessary, be converted to make the Garden Room another bedroom (with a bathroom directly next door) and bring the total number of guests to 8".

They also say: "We love the top floor of the house and the bedroom in the eaves. Accessed by a spiral staircase, there's also an ensuite bathroom. Outside is one of Hillside's best assets - a stunning glass balcony which affords views over the town, harbour and the ocean beyond. A wonderful place for morning coffee or a sundowner!".

Sophie says: "I feel the ratio of bedrooms to bathrooms is important in a home. Hillside has 4 bathrooms and a w/c. All 3 bedrooms have their own high quality ensuite bathrooms with Italian Porcelanosa baths, showers and sanitary ware".

Mark says: "The parking space in a gated car park right across the street from Hillside makes getting in and out of town very easy - unfortunately, parking in St.Ives during summer can be a bit of a lottery, so to have our own space so close to the house removes that worry. After a long drive it's really great to know that you've got a space when you arrive, not on the other side of town, but dead opposite where you'll stay - it really is that easy".
