Another perfect stay!
This is our 3rd time staying at Marks property and we absolutely enjoy it every time! If you’re a kayaker like we are this is the perfect spot! Just drag your boats to the dock and dump into the river to explore for the day! The house is stocked with everything you need…literally! Plus Mark helped us out when one of the teens forgot a very valuable thing behind, and he was very gracious about sending it back pronto. We will def be back! Thanks again for hosting us!

Great Location
The pool, beach and Freshfields Village were all close enough to either walk or bike to from the house. A short drive to everything else on Kiawah and Johns Island. The house did need some updating, but was well-equipped and had a nice view right on the Kiawah River.

Fantastic location for relaxing trip
We had an amazing stay at this property. Mark was one of the best home owners I’ve ever communicated with and always was super responsive to any questions we had. The location was ideal, and we had fantastic views of the sunset from the entire house. The beach was a quick bike or walk from the house, and the pool was right outside the property. The pool was 25m long so I was able to do some “lap” swimming too. The kitchen was well stocked and we had everything we needed to cook all meals at the house. I would highly recommend this property if you are looking for a relaxing vacation with easy access to the pool and beach. Best location in the neighborhood!

Favorite house in Inlet Cove
Rental and check-in process was seamless and hassle free. No need to stop by a rental office to get a key. Mark (owner) was very responsive to any questions I had, especially during this pandemic/COVID time. The house is just like the pictures - very clean, lots of updates, close to the pool and dock, great Adirondack rockers to watch the sunset from over the Kiawah River. The house is equipped with a grill, spices, condiments, pots/pans - we fixed dinner in several nights. We have rented in Inlet Cove for over 20 years, and this is our new favorite home. It is about 2 miles to Freshfields Village by bike, and about 1/2 mile walk down to the beach. We were disappointed the pool wasn't open to guests during our vacation, but the owner communicated this with us beforehand. We made the most of the week at the beach, riding bikes, and visiting Charleston. We can't wait to come back and would definitely rent this home again!

A Great Getaway
We really enjoyed our stay. The house had everything we needed. It was a very peaceful and relaxing. While we could not use the pool because of Covid, the beach did not disappoint! It was a short walk from the house. After spending the day at the beach, we were happy to come back to the house and enjoy the sunsets and having dinner in the screened in porch(this is definitely a plus). The owners were wonderful to work with and very responsive to any questions.

Beautiful views!!!
We stay in Inlet Cove every year. We will definitely be back to this house! Perfect location, very clean house, everything you need! Loved that we were very close to the pool. Plus we took our kayaks and just dragged them to the dock. Very convenient! The owner is very responsive with any questions we had about the property too.

Best location on Kiawah
We've stayed all over the island in the past 30+ years and this was one of our favorite houses! Being on the river was so fun - always something to see - like kayakers and sunsets! Way better than a house on a golf course where they start mowing early every morning outside your bedroom window - my husband said he got good sleep in this house! And, being SO close to the pool was awesome! Since our kids are now teenagers, I could let them go to the pool on their own and I could see them from the front porch! Also, being on that end of the island is awesome - you can bike to Freshfields! The house had everything we want - 3 bedrooms, a screened porch and a grill! And, it was the best stocked house we've ever stayed in - everything from spices to bug spray!

Perfect family vacation
The view from the villa is spectacular! My husband and two older teenage boys spent most of our time hanging out at the villa and Inlet Cove. We lounged in the two hammocks underneath the villa and watched the sunsets. (One son was catching up on old episodes of Game of Thrones --ugh -- but at least he chose to do it lying on the hammock with the view beyond.) We walked 25 short steps to the pool area. We fished off the pier. Oh, and at the pier, at low tide, we observed a couple of dolphins in an amazing and rare feeding ritual, literally in our backyard. We rented bikes and rode the 5 minute bike ride to the beach. It was absolutely idyllic. It was truly family bonding. Mark and Kay's villa is the perfect home base for such a lovely and simple vacation. And here is one small detail that made a big difference for me. Most rentals have pantries that are bare. Mark and Kay keep a nice supply of spices and condiments for guests' use. Since we ended up preparing most of our meals at home, it really helped to have seasonings and condiments and those things that you only need in tiny, tiny quantities readily available. For those few days, it felt like home. We will certainly be back!

Was a beautiful visit.
Mark our host was so accommodating for us,due to hurricane we needed to move our days, and he was so nice about the situation. The house is so ☮️ and serene,we loved watching the dolphins from the porch and all other wildlife. The only thing was I wish their were two queen beds or king instead of one but everything else perfect.

Perfect spring getaway
Sitting on the porch watching the sunsets was the perfect ending to each day. Loved the location with easy access to kayaking, biking, fishing, swimming, grocery shopping and the beauty of Kiawah Island. Beds all comfortable, kitchen fully equipped. While we expected to spend much of our time in and around Charleston, we found the beauty and peace of this setting most attractive. No need to ever turn on the TV. Our grandsons loved the hammock and string chair!

Great place!
This is a beautiful cottage in a great location. It is on the river, so you can watch dolphins and birds from the back deck. It also is near the pool, and a short walk (a few blocks) to the beach. The cottage itself is perfectly kept and extremely well stocked. Mark was easy to work with. We will certainly be back!

A Room with a View!
The first thing you see when you open the door is the spectacular view of the river. We were immediately drawn to the balcony ... unpacking had to wait!! The condo was large, clean, comfortable, and well equipped. There is expanded cable and wifi and access to Netflex if you have an account. There are also two hammocks below the deck that we enjoyed and being one door down from the pool was also nice as at times the beach was a little windy and cool (typical April) -- the pool is protected somewhat from the wind by the vegetation and pool house. We rented bikes and took advantage of the expansive bike trails on the island. The wooded trails were truly nature trails as we saw raccoons, deer, and of course alligators!! If you are physically inclined, bikes are a must to truly experience the island. Alligator Bikes cost $35 for the week (they magically were parked under the deck when we arrived--and disappeared when we left) but I'm sure any of the rentals are great (Island Bikes was in the neighborhood and they were kind enough to help us adjust our seats as we were struggling with the latch). We ate at Cherrywood BBQ @ Osprey Point and the BBQ Nachos and their Mac & Cheese were worth the calories! The Tattooed Moose on John's Island was interesting and also excellent (my niece had the Duck (yes I said Duck) Club and it was so good she wouldn't share)!! Also recommend the Roy Barth tennis clinics at the Sanctuary--they have a variety of classes to chose from and I learned a lot. Roy was actually teaching the class before mine!! The Ethridge's were extremely nice and accommodating and very quickly responded to any questions that we had--"NO" waiting for hours for a returned call! As I'm sure you've guessed by now, we highly recommend this property!!

Stunning Location!
Certainly one of our nicest family vacations in years! This home in Inlet Cove really sets itself apart by the incredibly beautiful lot it sits on. It is tucked well back off the cul de sac and is practically 'encased' by Live Oaks and Magnolias. It really gave the feeling of staying in tree house and has a breathtaking view of the Kiawah River off the back porch. The unit is one lot over from the swimming pool and community dock which was convenient for the kids and watching the unforgettable sunsets. It is very well-maintained and had everything we needed for an amazing week. Looking around, we were convinced we got the nicest one in the neighborhood. Highly recommended!

Wonderful week at #61 Inlet Cove
The cottage is beautiful and well maintained. All of us enjoyed our stay and will definitely consider the cottage next year if we return. There were only a few small issues which I'll list only because the owner said he had just started renting this unit this year, and I want to stress they were mostly minor inconveniences. The guest bathroom - The sink faucet was really hard to turn on. We were all seniors so it was an issue for all of us. Also the you couldn't keep water in the sink, it would drain out. Cabinet space - We really appreciated all the spices and food items that were available to us but it was hard for us to find space for our own items. We didn't need a lot of space but maybe a little more would been nice. Again the cottage was great

About the host

Hosted by Mark Ethridge

Host profile image
I'm a journalist and writer. Kay is a potter. We live most of the time in Charlotte which has been our home for more than 50 years. We also have ties to Michigan. Kay finds inspiration in Kiawah's natural surroundings and incorporates things like pine cones, Spanish moss and sea shells into her work. I find Kiawah equally inspiring - although it's difficult to write there because there's too much fun to be had outside.

Why they chose this property

Kay and I have been beach house owners for more than 30 years. In 2001, we visited friends at Kiawah. Within a week, we had put our North Carolina beach house on the market and had made on offer on 61 Sunlet Bend - a wonderful cottage on the river that was right across the street from our friends. We and our two children have been enjoying it regularly since then. Surfing, kayaking and dining out in Charleston have become passions.

What makes this property unique

Most Inlet Cove houses have pretty much the same interior design, number of bedrooms, etc. This cottage has been well-maintained and we've kept it fresh, updating the kitchen, master bath, and front deck and stairs, and adding an underneath deck and back stairs. But what really makes our cottage special is its location - near the pool and the dock but not so near that it's noisy -- and an easy bike ride to the beach, to the convenience store, to the market, coffee house and shops at Freshfields. And because it's near the main gate, it's one of Kiawah's closest neighborhood to Charleston.
