Stunning Panoramic Views from Private Luxury Home in Medieval Village Center

SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT COVID-19:
YOUR SAFETY IS OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE TO US AT THIS TIME. Because of the uncertainties around traveling and concern for our public health systems worldwide, we are relaxing our cancellation policy this year to allow a full refund up to 15 days ahead of arrival. We can also move your reservation to 2021 if you wish.

CASA ILLUMINATA is a fully renovated, luxuriously furnished 4-level town home in the center of a thriving medieval village 45 minutes west of Siena and an hour south of Florence. 2 bdrms/2 baths with tub and shower (one ensuite with 2nd floor bdrm, the other on main living level), central heat and air conditioning, 2 terraces. Bedrooms are on the 4th floor and the 2nd floor; living, kitchen and dining room on 3rd floor (which is one flight of stairs up from street level). Total living space is approx. 160 sq meters. Upstairs bedroom has a very large terrace with dining table and chairs, potted garden and chaises. The 2nd floor bedroom has a queen sized bed and space for up to two additional twin beds which are stored in the cellar and can be set up upon request. Large, L-shaped modern sofa with down wrapped cushions is comfortable for sleeping on additional person. Comfortably the house sleeps 5, but 2 more people can stay for an extra fee.
That's the house. It is positioned on the northern side (with the best view) of the loveliest little storybook village of 700 residents. We are right next door to La Pergola Pizzeria on one side and the smallest theater in Europe (67 seats) on the other. And two doors down is an artisan's workshop, Ammos, a treasure trove for those seeking original art to bring home from their travels. Radicondoli is like a trip back to sweeter, more innocent times. It has four bars, three restaurants, four churches, a variety of shops and services, two grocery stores, a butcher, a tourist office, a bank with ATM, and locally staffed volunteer ambulance service and the friendliest people you will ever meet.
There are festivals throughout the year: May 1 is Primo Maggio. The last weekend of June is the San Giovanni Festival; late July-first week of August is a major theater, dance, music and art festival with concerts in village spaces, piazzas and out in the countryside. Every Thursday night in July and August, Via Garibaldi (my street) is closed to traffic and an evening festival takes place with food, cocktails, live music and dancing--it's called the Notte di Giove, and it's a no-miss event! In early July and mid August the famous Palio di Siena horse race takes place in Siena, and I can connect you with a great tour guide and the option to purchase bleacher tickets to view the trials and main race. In late September we have the Festa della Madonna, which culminates in a candlelight procession through the village with our medieval Madonna della Mercedes fresco. In late October we have the Festa di San Simone e Giuda in the main piazza with roast chestnuts, sausages, chestnut cake and wine, as well as old fashioned children's games. Day trips to Chianti villages and wine country, Volterra, San Gimignano, Florence, Siena, San Galgano Abbey, Massa Marittima, Arezzo, Cortona, Pisa, the Mediterranean coastline and a great many more beautiful destinations are possible, though you will want to carve out some serious loafing in the village and at home time, because Radicondoli is such a beautiful slice of Paradise you will fall in love with it the moment you arrive!

Wonderful place
Extremely pleased with the location and the quality of the villa. Furnishings of the highest standard and kitchen fully equipped. Note the bedrooms are on the upper and lower levels with stairs to access. Radicondoli has restaurants, cafes and all other shops needed. Surrounded by Tuscan landscape it is a beautiful landscape with access to other well known places. Thank you for the opportunity to stay

Live As The Locals Life
Casa Illuminata Radicondoli by far exceeded our expectations. The three story home offers guests the unique opportunity to live as the locals live. The view from this beautiful home is absolutely stunning. The caretaker of the property was very helpful from the days leading up to our stay and throughout in making bookings and recommendations for dinner, cooking classes, local villages to visit, he was the most attentive host we have ever experienced. He met us at the door of the property (was so patient as we were a little late), he helped carry our bags into the house, showed us through each of the three floors, and came to help us again and say goodbye as we left. The village itself is beautiful, the people are friendly, lovely local restaurants just a couple of minutes walk from the house. Oh, and if you love to read, the house has an excellent selection of books to read. We will definitely be back, next time we will stay for longer!

A wonderful place to stay for a couple weeks. Great restaurant in town that we ate ate 4 times. A little remote because of the winding roads but ver easy to navigate. A very friendly information center with many ideas on where to do day trips. Siena is not too far away.

Great Time Wonderful Village
We stayed in Radicondoli for eight nights. The apartment is near the center of the village steps away from the best pizza restaurant for miles around. It also has the best view from the terrace. As for the apartment, it is clean has all the kitchen items you would want. YouTube how to operate a MOKA Italian Coffee Maker while here, you will not be disappointed. The top bedroom with the expansive terrace has the very best view. Village people are friendly and welcoming. We loved it.

Amazing stay
La Casa Illuminata was an absolute dream. Modern conveniences throughout, beautiful bedrooms, each with their own private terrace, and a very comfortable living area for relaxing and reading. And the VIEWS! Incredible scenery that was different every morning - from sunshine one day to the mist that settled in the valley the next day. The town is small but lovely and offered us the quiet and serenity we were seeking. The people were great to meet and get to know. We went on a couple of day trips to San Gimignano and Volterra, each about an hour away by car. Great place and we would definitely stay there again. Nicola met us and showed us around when we arrived and he is a jewel - very kind and warm hearted. We loved our time there.

A beautiful home in an unspoiled Tuscan town
We loved everything about our week long stay at Casa Iluminata. The house is spacious, beautifully decorated, with lovely bed linens, comfortable furnishings and fully equipped kitchen. The roof top terrace was our evening spot to enjoy a drink and take in the amazing view. The owner’s instructions and tips were great and the local manager was very accommodating and responsive. The town itself is lovely with several good restaurants especially Agriteca and not overrun with tourists. We hope to be lucky enough to return and stay here again.

Beautiful home and village
We agree with all the other reviews. Beautifully maintained home right in the heart of a unique little village. We spent 5 nights there and already miss it. The kitchen has everything you need if you want to cook in a few nights. Communication from the owner and on-site manager was perfect. We took a cooking class and ate at the two main local restaurants (Agriteca and La Nazionale). The house is right next to the upscale pizza place so there is a little noise at night until 10:30-11:00 PM especially if you stay in the downstairs bedroom but it wasn't a hug deal. (We didn't eat there because all the locals say it's a ripoff at $20+ for a small pizza vs. $8 for one at Nazionale but it was popular with other tourists coming into town). A memorable trip.

A Tuscan Dream
Spectacular! Every rave review still falls short of the magic of this place. Comfortable, beautiful, located in an enchanting Tuscan hilltop village with few tourists, holding winding streets, alleys, panoramic views, restaurants and all a living, active village needs. Friendly people, a bar/restaurant opened to the street where people gathered late afternoon and evening. Well located for easy day trips to other villages and towns. But our favorite thing to do was, after a delicious dinner, we'd sit on the balcony off the top floor bedroom watching the swifts sail through a sunset that stretched over an unbroken 180 degree panoramic view of the Tuscan valleys and mountains stretching row after row to the North. While we stayed in Florence, visited Lucca and Bologna, and spent a week long family reunion in a beautiful Chianti villa, our 4 nights here was our favorite time. Given how crowded the major cities were, I'm not sure I'd return to Florence despite awe inspiring art and architecture. However, I would return to this place in a heart beat. Thank you Marlane for sharing this with us. It is a great gift for those who are fortunate to discover it.

The central location in the village and the area was great. Nearby restaurants and Co-op made life easy. We did day trips to San Gimigiano, Volterre and Dreamwoods. The condo itself had great views and had everything we needed. Would love to return someday!

Wonderful
Our stay was the last five days of a 21 day trip throughout Italy. It was a great way to wind down at the end of the trip. So peaceful and quite and relaxing. The residents of Radicondoli are great and friendly. Our only disappointment was that apparently the village discontinued their Thursday evening "party"/gathering due to COVID. Great place to use as a base to venture out to surrounding area/towns in Tuscany. Make sure you make reservations at the three little trattorias, especially for dinner. The villa was FABULOUS. Great views, clean, everything you need. We would definitely return if ever visiting the area again!

Enjoying Tuscany
Dear Marlene, Many thanks for a truly unique opportunity to enjoy Tuscany from the comfort of your spectacular house. It shows you've gone to great lengths to come up with superb interior design and decoration with attention to very small details. There is a story behind it and you can feel the positive and creative spirit! And it is a indeed an amazing place to stay and enjoy awesome sceneries of Tuscan hillsides and vineyards. A big thank you goes to Nicola for being so helpful and supportive, it makes all the difference when you have someone you can rely on and turn to for advice in a new place. He is real gentlemen. Please pass our best regards to him and the family. There is only one thing that we regret: our stay was too short to fully embrace the beauty of the place and the comfort of your house. Wishing you best of good luck and hopefully we can meet again at Garibaldi 18. Warm regards, Silvia and Edmond

Another wonderful experience
This was our third stay at the lovely Casa Illuminata, and it undoubtedly lived up to our memorable holidays staying here in 2018 and 2019. The accommodation is extremely spacious and very comfortable, with everything you could possibly need, and it has a very special peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. This is in part due to the incredible views which stretch as far as distant mountains and are fascinating at all times of day, from the lakes of mist in the valleys below in the early mornings, to the really stunning sunsets. How very lucky we feel to have had the opportunity again to relax on the large terrace here and soak it all in, with a book in one hand and a glass of very good Italian wine in the other. Despite its quiet, Casa Illuminata is superbly located in the heart of a lively, friendly little village, which has everything you need within a couple of minutes’ walk (eg a small supermarket, a chemist, a tourist office, three restaurants, bars, a baker’s, a post office, a shop selling stylish crockery and other items, and even a little gallery and a delightful hairdresser...). If you want to get out and about (though it is very tempting just to while away the time here), Radicondoli is also within easy reach by car of wonderful cultural centres eg Siena, Florence, San Gimignano and Volterra, and various other lovely villages/small towns which are great fun to explore eg Castellina, Greve and Monteriggioni. We cannot speak too highly of the owner, Marlane, who, as always, has been extremely easy to communicate with, very kind and thoughtful (and never more so than in this difficult year for travel), and also of Giovanna, who lives in the village and looks after the property for her, and for whom nothing is too much trouble to ensure that guests have a perfect stay. What a wonderful experience this has again been.

All We Hoped For
What you see is what you get, and then some! Our experience in Casa Illuminata in Radicondoli exceeded out expectations of a small village home base from which to explore Tuscany. Giovanna helped secure in-home cooking lessons, a wine tour and arrival night dinner reservations in advance, met us with a smile and was easy to reach for every question or need. Accommodations are a dream. Over our 13nt stay, we used the washer many times and couldn't get enough of the coffee and foamed milk. You WILL bang your head on the beam in the downstairs bathroom at least once within the first 48 hrs but will easily adjust and the bump is a price you will happily pay for such a historic stay! We arrived during a particularly hot time of year though managed to alternate usage of the A/C to remain comfortable and were happy to have one cool night to dine on the upper terrace, i.e. dreams come true! We ate at all 3 local restaurants multiple times. I highly recommend them all and trust you'll discover your own highlights of each. Do stop into the local tourist office! We followed a few of their suggestions of places off the beaten path and were not disappointed. Impressive attention has been paid to mapping out local hikes for exploring the landscape and my short walk left me aching to return at a cooler time of year for more. Tuscany did not let me down, Radicondoli is a gem and Casa Illuminata is the very best home base from which to experience it.

An incredibly relaxing stay in a picture perfect Tuscan hill town.
We spent the middle portion of our three week stay in Italy at "Casa Illuminata "and it was just perfect. A easy car drive to many of the major sights in the region, and some other local sights that were hidden gems. That being said, we purposely just hung out at the apartment and the little "borgo" of Radicondoli for a couple of the days because it was so nice. Radicondoli is small enough to be perfect but still big enough to have a couple of bars for your morning coffee, a wonderful bakery that I got up at 7:30 each morning to buy bread and pastries. (go too much later and its all gone!. The bread is fresh to the day!!) And three wonderful restaurants, each of them having a different feel about them. "La Pergola' is a can't miss. The pizza is the best in the region for sure. Recommend you make reservations, it is a favorite with the locals and if you want a table on the patio under the Pergola with the best view in central Italy you'll need to. No worries, its only two doors down from the apartment and you can make them on the way to your car. Speaking of your car. The parking is super close and convenient and in the two weeks we were there I neve had an issue finking a spot. Summing up, on top of all that, the apartment is wonderful and very well appointed and the views are incredible. We certainly plan a trip back, If Marlane ever considers selling, I would love to know!!

Awe-inspiring
This property exceeded our expectations as a home base for our visit to Tuscany. Giovanna greeted us with hugs and a bottle of wine, made reservations for us at the pizzeria next door, then was available as needed throughout our stay. We instantly felt welcome in this tiny village. Mornings started with cappuccinos easily made in the well-equipped kitchen, fresh bread from the bakery, cheese and meats from the co-op store, and stunning views from the upstairs terrace. We hiked miles, but I don't think we hit every trail in the area... they are endless. While we traveled to Florence and Sienna during our stay, our best evening meals were at four restaurants in Radicondoli. Our group of two couples took in conversations with locals and other travelers, and even some karaoke at a restaurant/bar one fun evening. Giovanna arranged for an in-home cooking lesson from a local chef, who taught us to make Pici with great patience. Giovanna also arranged for a driver to take us to two wineries, as well as a stop at San Gimignano for gelato and shopping. That excursion was simply a perfect day -- and an experience we'll be talking about for years. We are grateful for the clean comfort, ample space, and attention to detail (luxurious linens and high-end cookware) at Casa Illuminata. We highly recommend it as a true retreat from the busy pace of life. We'll be back!

Lovely home in Tuscany!
We feel so lucky to have found this beautiful home in the heart of Tuscany to use as our home base during our stay! The outside is an amazing little medieval hill town, while the inside is completely updated with all the modern comforts. The views from the upstairs patio are amazing. Beautiful sunsets, misty mornings, with the church bells ringing in the background. It was delightful to be able to walk next door for some of the best Pizzas and salads we've ever tasted.

A wonderful experience
We absolutely loved our four weeks at Casa Illuminata. We really enjoyed (and benefitted from) its ambience and amazing views - and the air conditioning, which is not very common. The upstairs terrace, in particular, is a joy - plenty big enough to eat/relax/read and to enjoy the wonderful vista right across the hills and valleys to Volterra and San Gimigniano. It has everything you need, and is both stylish and very comfortable. It was very relaxing, and incredibly quiet and peaceful, despite being in the heart of the village (a huge plus for us). We know Radicondoli well, and it is a great place to stay: everyone is so welcoming to visitors, and there is lots going on there (live music of all kinds, for example), and in the region. Marlane went to lots of trouble to help us eg advising us on the best seats to get for the Palio, and everything was so well organised and ran smoothly. Giovanni, who lives in Radicondoli, looked after us, and is an exceptionally kind and helpful person, so that was another plus. A fantastic trip - I’m just about to reserve for next year!

We live in the house part of the year and rent it out when were not here, so it is quite comfortable, with all the things that make us feel at home. You will find a beautifully stocked and outfitted kitchen, nice rugs and furnishings, books, and WIFI throughout. There is no TV because we're here to enjoy the peace, but if I want to watch a soccer match or something else, just go to one of our bars and sit down with the locals to take it in. It's so much more sociable that way!

Why they chose this property

Because it is simply the best places on earth--a comfortable, luxurious home with magnificent views from all levels in a hidden pocket of gorgeous Tuscany an easy drive to anywhere. Being In Radicondoli means you're instantly a local and part of the pace of the town. The complete opposite of the better know towns and cities where making a true personal connection isn't easy. The local people are excited to meet new visitors. You feel like a part of "your" town rather than a visitor passing through.

What makes this property unique

This house is several cuts above the local rental properties, which are furnished as rentals. It is very comfortably furnished, authentically renovated with traditional style but an open, flowing floor plan, and the location couldn't possibly be more convenient. You only have to walk ten steps to the best pizzeria in all the world! And the village itself if the real prize, a place of lost in time. A place from the past, and very much of the future as well.
