Any other information requested is followed up to the best of my ability. Whitby is ideally located for walking and visiting local towns and resorts in the vicinity. There are excellent Wine Bars/ traditional ancient Public Houses and of course amusements for the children with us and within us. Twin Piers protrude from the Harbour and after restoration work both can now be accessed. You can go fishing from the Piers, or Boat fishing from the Harbour by Private Charter for approximately £50pp. Why not venture along the Cliff top beyond the Abbey to Saltwick Bay, here you can get a bite to eat drink and perhaps go winkling. The Historic City of York with a Designer Outlet, McArthur Glen on the outskirts is only about an 1hr away with Robin Hoods Bay & Scarborough just a short drive South. Heart Beat Country, Goathland is only approx 20 minutes drive away. 8 miles to the North is Runswick Bay, a relatively unknown beautiful & tranquil place excellent for walkers as it forms part of the Cleveland Way. There are some wonderful eating houses around Whitby, The Moon & Sixpence Cocktail Bar on the Harbour side is excellent for Cocktails! further a field 1 mile out on the moors road heading towards Middlesbrough is The Stables with excellent food. Not forgetting The Magpie famous fish Chip restaurant just a 2min walk away and Whitbys "The Angel" Wetherspoons which is great for breakfast or a good quality cheaper meal with the usual top branded drinks at knock down prices. Grosmont only a short drive away welcomes you with a Steam Railway heading to Pickering and sometimes serves lunch onboard on Sundays, this is a journey through beautiful countryside. There are also occasional Steam Engines leaving from Whitby in Summer months and a Santas Special during the Xmas period.

Lovely cottage very close to the harbour in quiet location
A really lovely cottage in a very quiet location and also very close to the harbour, rail and bus stations and shops and restaurants. The beds were very comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean. Can honestly say it is the best holiday cottage I have ever stayed in and I would definitely return.

Fabulous Cottage in Central Whitby
Home from home cottage right in the middle of Whitby with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Excellent communication and information from host before and during stay. Only small negative is the parking which is on street with a permit - probably easy to find a spot normally but it was the busiest week of the year when we visited due to the Regatta and Folk week which made it a little challenging. Central location great for walks along the coast and visits to York and Dalby Forest

Perfect getaway in a central location
Absolutely perfect little cottage, really quiet but centrally located in Whitby so walking distance to a wide range of restaurants, walking, sightseeing and shops. Possibly on the small side for 6 adults but as an adult family of 4 it suited us perfectly. The photos do not do it justice, we had a wonderful time and were provided with plenty of information to make the most of our stay ,will definitely be visiting again.

A fabulous find
This was a great place for us to base ourselves from and was a lovely place to come back to after some long days of walking. The owners are very responsive and easy to communicate with, which is important. The cottage itself was very clean and well kept and had all the bits and pieces you could need. What a perfect little hideaway for enjoying a weekend in Whitby! Spotless accommodation, cosy with it, brilliant location, great outdoor space and everything you could need. Can’t recommend highly enough. Colin was a first class host and we couldn’t have asked for something better suited for three good friends getting together for a weekend after too many years apart!

About the host

Hosted by Colin

Host profile image
After visiting Whitby as a boy with my parents many times it became a Boyhood dream of owning an Old Fishermans Cottage in Whitby.
This came to fruition in 2010 when buying a "VERY" rundown dilapidated Cottage.
After many frustrating months/years nearly, also filled with enjoyment and huge learning curves the refurbishment of Gulls Cry was complete and as we see and enjoy it today.

Why they chose this property

A traditional 360yr old Fishermans Cottage that was originally 2 Cottages, now knocked into one to make quite a spacious Holiday Cottage.
The refurbishment was designed and executed by myself and a 78 year old Master Craftsman who still works today at over 84 and took 18mths to complete.
No attention to detail was overlooked making it a Superb Cottage for your special stay in Whitby.

What makes this property unique

Close to everything Central in Whitby yet tucked away for privacy when you get tired of the hustle & bustle. Lovely private outside space which most Cottages do not have and a little summer House to sit and relax in.
Large screen LED TV with Firestick / Wifi throughout & Alexa controlled lounge lighting
Refurbished to a very high standard, modern yet in traditional style with bespoke oak double glazing.
