About this property

The Log Cabin on Rainy Lake

Come and just relax in our special part of the world. You can smell the fresh air, look at the stars explore the Canadian Shield, and fish/hunt or sightsee on this wonderful lake. Make memories that will last for generations. Oh and have fun, Lots and Lots of fun!!!

I built this magnificent 3,000 plus sq. ft. Hand-Scribed Western Red Cedar Log Cabin/Lodge over 3 years starting in 1988. Our one of a kind log cabin has a glorious southern exposure too. The Cabin is equipped with all the lavish amenities you could ever need. We are on an island a short 1 mile hop from the mainland which makes us allot more private and secluded than most rentals. We are not on the main drag in town or right next door to a lodge/bar or marina's gas dock, so your stay will be more peaceful and pleasant. This Cabin or as some would say Lodge, will luxuriously accommodate up to 8 guests. The lodge has two loft bedrooms with 3 queen beds, and a master bedroom with one king. Amenities include full stocked kitchen with a dish washer, Jen-aire gas range, 30 cubic ft fridge with cold water/ice maker, dining room, great room, 2 rock fireplaces, 2 full bathrooms the master equipped with jacuzzi tub & walk in shower and indoor sauna, washer/dryer, 4 TV's w/ satellite, sound system, and over 2000 square feet of wrap around decks, with a large Weber gas barbecue and a Bradly smoker. Bring your own boats and fish or go sightseeing on one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. The cabin also comes with a small boat & motor, a canoe, there is a large dock with electrical power service, swim ladder, water toys, and water slide for the kids. There is also a primitive wood burning sauna at the main dock and a fire pit on the point. A caretaker (on call 24hrs) will check in daily to address any concerns or maybe just give a little local advice if you would like. A fishing trip/sightseeing excursion with either myself or my son. Optional chef and fishing guide service for part or all of your stay available upon request if booked far enough in advance.

Rainy Lake Family Vacation

We enjoyed our week on Stop Island on Rainy Lake. Danny was a spectacular host and very attentive. We were a little worried that our 20-something kids would feel trapped on the island without Wi-Fi--but on the contrary--we enjoyed the time on the lake boating and fishing with friends who have a house on the mainland. Highlights for the cabin included the indoor sauna, the grill, and the lakefront area for campfires. We also enjoyed the views in the morning and evening from the deck. While rustic and requiring lots of planning for getting provisions, we greatly enjoyed the setting and the time with friends and family.

Beautiful

I gave this a 5 star rating because of Danny. We had a couple of hiccups and he was there as soon as possible to help us out. The view and house was spectacular. One little ding is the house doesn’t sleep 8 adults but we brought a couple of cots and it worked out well. Thanks Danny!! V

Wonderful Accommodations!

We just returned from a terrific stay on Rainy Lake! The cabin was clean, well stocked, and provided an ideal spot for a week of relaxation. We especially enjoyed the fishing and our lunch on the deck at Sha Sha Resort. We all hope to return again in the future!

Great house on Rainey lake

This house was in a great location on Stop island. It had all the comforts of home. Danny was great to work with and checked in during the stay to make sure things were running smooth. You can't beat the views-sunrise and sunset.

Unique cedar log cabin on an island

Well, if you can afford it look no further! This is a definition of a perfect Northern Minnesota getaway. You will certainly admire this impressively designed and skillfully executed log cabin with the panoramic views of Rainy lake. The owner and host Danny keeps it immaculately clean, functional and inviting. This place is for you if you are ready for an escape from daily hustle and stress. Larger group or a family of 3 (like us) would feel equally comfortable. Send your friends fishing in provided motor boat or canoe, nudge your kids to have fun on the private dock or cool stony shore line (the water is clear, no muck!), meanwhile put your feet up on an oversized deck and enjoy the sky, the pines and the lake. Perhaps with a glass of something relaxing. Think about showing off your grilling or smoking skills to your loved ones - a grill and a smoker are ready to go. And even a deep fryer is there if you are in a mood for fish fry. Or maybe instead you just want to soak in a giant tab and enjoy the sauna. You have a choice! Do not forget to make a bon fire at night in a pit set up couple of feet from the water. This is a place to make memories. We had an amazing time and will be back. One thing though, your friend and family should be fit enough to climb stairs after hanging out outside: after all the cabin is on a rocky island and is located up above so that you can have this amazing view.

Amazing Cabin with Gorgeous Views

We had the best time staying at this amazing cabin. It had everything we needed to enjoy our time on Rainy Lake. Danny met us at the landing and helped us launch our boat. He guided us to the island and had 2 luggage carts waiting on the dock to make transporting our luggage up to the cabin very easy. The views from the cabin are absolutely stunning! There is an enormous wrap around deck overlooking the lake with multiple tables/chairs and 2 lovely chaise loungers. The master bedroom is enormous! Complete with a large walk-in shower and huge jetted tub. The sauna was an extra treat - very relaxing - and two plush robes hang right outside the door. There were 3 restaurants/bars located nearby that are easily accessible by boat - and even found an ice cream shop in Rainer that was accessible by boat! We absolutely loved our time at the cabin and hope to be able to do it again next year. Thank you Danny for making our vacation so amazing, special, and memorable!

Island Log Cabin

It is a beautiful place. We had a great time. We had a fire down by the water one night. Each night we grilled on the huge deck that overlooks the lake. The lot is huge so you feel like you are alone without neighbors. The walk from the dock to the house is a fair climb with all your supplies. There is only one shower and it is in the master bed room.

Amazing Week

We had the best week! The cabin was well stocked with everything you would ever need. We wanted for nothing. The views of the lake can not be beat. We loved spending our mornings on the deck watching the sun come up and our days out on the water. Our children (3 and 6 years old) loved swimming off the dock, fishing, going for boat rides. Can’t wait to come back!

Fabulous week on Rainy Lake

We loved our week at Danny's house on Rainy Lake. The house is beautiful. The indoor sauna is great. The deck is perfectly situated for a view of the lake with no houses or buildings in the view. We loved having coffee on the deck. There are other houses nearby by you aren't really aware of them except when on the deck. We are not motor boat people; we're happier in canoes. You can canoe for a couple of hours from the house by canoeing around all of the beautiful islands nearby. We brought a canoe with us and used the canoe that Danny has at the house. Motor boats go by but they don't interfere with canoeing. We used Danny's skiff to go back and forth to our cars when we visited the national park, Lake Kab entrances. A highlight of our week: Danny took us on a tour of the Rainy Lake areas in the national park. He is a great tour guide with a lot of information to share about the area. The house is definitely roomy & comfortable enough for 6 adults, but be aware that the master suite is huge and also has the only shower. Upstairs in the loft are two more relatively small bedrooms, but they are divided by a partial wall and don't have doors, so the privacy is somewhat limited. This didn't bother us at all but you should be aware of it if you rent the house for a group of adults.

Wonderful week on beautiful Rainy Lake!

Rainy Lake is an amazing place to visit and get away from it all and this luxury cabin / home is as amazing and grand as the northern surroundings it's built in! The cabin sits high in the pines overlooking the lake with an fantastic deck that catches a breeze and lets you soak in the sunrise, the daily boat comings and goings, and the evening pink of dusk. The cabin is spacious and well-equipped for the sunny and rainy days that Rainy Lake provides. A sunny day means jumping off the dock into the refreshing water, wading on the sandy shoreline, or even exploring nearby fishing holes with the Lund boat and 25 horse motor provided with the cabin. Rainy days are a chance to relax inside over a game of cribbage or warm up with a sauna or jacuzzi before jumping into the lake! Either way, your family and friends will have plenty of space and comfort to enjoy the day! If you're interested in the history of the lake or looking for a good spot to fish, Danny is the perfect person to talk to. His family history runs deep in the Rainy Lake area and he is a wealth of knowledge! Overall, it was exactly what we were looking for to escape the world and spend a quintessential Minnesota summer week at the lake!

Heaven

Seven wonderful days relaxing and fishing. A great location to quickly fish many different species. Danny is very responsive if you were to need anything. The home is beautiful and has everything we needed for preparing meals. We spent many hours hanging out on the dock swimming and paddle boarding around the bay and exploring islands. A vacation we will treasure forever!

Fantastic week on Rainy Lake

Our family spent a week at Danny's "cabin" on Stop Island. Loved sitting on the beautiful wraparound deck overlooking the lake each morning with our coffee, having breakfast and reading. We rented a pontoon boat nearby, which was very comfortable for 5-6 people but not the ideal fishing vessel. Nonetheless, we caught plenty of walleye, pike and bass and had our best day walleye fishing with Danny at the helm. He gave us some great tips on fishing the local waters and did a nice job keeping the boat centered over the reefs. The master bedroom was very comfortable and huge. We all showered in the master bathroom with nice double-headed shower. The 2nd bathroom has a tub but no shower head. There were saunas in the main building and down by the lake. We did make a fire in one of the 2 scenic firepits near the water though the mosquitos were voracious once the sun set. The kitchen was well supplied with everything we needed. We used the nice Weber gas grill more than once and even the deep fryer which was a great addition to cook our fish in. There was a smoker which we did not use but having all those nice appliances gave us plenty of options to cook. We would definitely recommend Danny's place if you want to get away from it all and Danny was an awesome host. His family's historical ties with the area and all the photos and wildlife in the house were a good way to feel part of the history of the area.
