Great place close to the University

We enjoyed this cozy spot minutes from the U of A campus. The enclosed backyard was really nice and having the separate guest house was helpful.

Thanksgiving in Tucson

My wife and I enjoyed our two week stay here in Tucson, to celebrate Thanksgiving and some big birthdays with family. The house is a great location in mid-town, comfortable and well-equipped, with a beautiful fenced back yard for our little dog. The retro stove is impressive. The owner was responsive to our questions and requests, and once we figured out all the light switches, there was plenty of light both inside and out. A great get-away for us!

Outstanding Stay

This historic home in Rincon Heights is outstanding! Close to all things Tucson, and the home and yard are amazing; desert garden, soothing sounds of fountain and birds. Recommend nearby Momo's taco happy hour and also Woop! Bakery. Additionally, outstanding nature within an hour of Tucson. Much gratitude to owner, Lisa! The Desert Mermaids and Chihuahuas

Excellent getaway in the heart of the University area

We have stayed at this home in the past, and were happy to find it just as comfortable as we had remembered. Lisa is a very friendly host, and our dogs were welcomed. The fenced yard is great security for them, and the house is not too far from the dog park. Great location! The outdoor space in this home is really wonderful.

Beautiful house close to the university.

This house has a really nice yard and a lovely kitchen. It was very comfortable and charming. The only possible negative is that it was super hot the weekend we were there (111) and the air conditioner struggled a bit, but it was still very nice.

Pleasant Oasis

We very much enjoyed our stay at the University House. The house is comfortable and very cute. We especially enjoyed the very private yard. The house is in the middle of the city but you wouldn't know it while enjoying outdoor time. We loved the landscaping and variety of plants and shrubs in the yard. Lisa was very accommodating and always available while respecting our privacy. I hope we will have the opportunity to stay again.

A wonderful place to stay

We just spent a wonderful month in this beautiful, centrally located cottage with a casita near the university. Entering through a fanciful iron gate into a walled patio with a fountain that leads you to an oasis between the house and casita enclosing a portal surrounded by a native garden shaded with a live oak and mesquite trees. The house has a well stocked kitchen and dining room, W/D, 3 bedrooms with the primary off the fountain patio. The casita is perfect for a visiting couple. Our two old dogs loved the place as did we. Lisa is a great host; friendly, responsive and knowledgable. We would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Excellent stay in historic home

We came to Tucson to watch the very last Oregon State vs U of A game since the PAC12 is no more after this season. Our team may have lost but we took solace in the fact that we got to stay in this beautiful home. Every details has been thought through, a fantastic kitchen, beautiful outdoor space and comfortable furniture. Really enjoyed how walkable the area is. We spent mornings wandering the Sam Hughes neighborhood or UofA campus which made for fantastic walks. One of our favorite breweries (Borderlands) is just a 12 minute walk away. We made plans to come back and stay for a month in the winter and are counting the days!

Outstanding property!

Two friends and I stayed here for a week in mid-November to do some road cycling. The house is in an excellent location close to the University, many good restaurants and centrally located to lots of good cycling routes. The house itself was spotlessly clean, well-appointed, well-equipped kitchen, speedy WiFi and very comfortable. The courtyard patio was great for breakfast and post-ride re-fueling. Lisa, the owner, was very friendly, helpful and easy to communicate with. We’ve stayed in a number of VRBO’s in the Tucson area, and this is one the best if not THE best! Thanks again to Lisa; I look forward to staying here again!!!

Wonderful property!

This was our second stay at this lovely property for cycling around Tucson. As before, the house was spotlessly clean and well appointed. The location is perfect for cycling, having easy access to a wide variety of routes and The Loop cycleway. A very nice addition since our last visit was the casita behind the main house (available for a small extra charge) which afforded our married friends additional privacy and allowed everyone a bit more space. The owner Lisa was again very helpful, friendly, and communicative. The central courtyard is great for afternoon post-ride relaxing, conversation and snacks. We hope to return many times in the future. Many thanks again to Lisa!

Roomy, comfy, close to U of A and downtown

This is a lovely older home in the Sam Hughes area just west of Campbell. It's spacious and comfortable and has everything you need. The back has a covered patio and it's fenced if you have a dog, but it's desert landscaping. The house has kept its original character despite some updating. The living/dining/kitchen part of the home is especially roomy and there's a desk in the sunroom (it has a sunroom!) if you need one. The TV is nice and accommodates Netflix -- a big plus for me. The wifi works fine. The A/C unit struggled while I was there but that was in an unusually hot week in the summer. Even then it cooled down enough to sleep at night comfortably with the ceiling fan on. With a little more updating inside and out this place would rate a 5. It's a bargain in terms of size and comfort, and I would stay there again.

Mixed feelings

The communication is great and the host fixed an issue we had with ants right away. That said, if you are an anxious person this place is not for you. There are old appliances and I felt like I could smell the gas faintly which made me stress the whole time. I could only find one Co2 monitor in one bedroom and would have felt better if they were on both sides of the home and in the guest suite. You have to enter the home through the side gate and backyard and at night it is utterly terrifying. I am not uncomfortable being in Tucson but I am realistic about the surroundings and know that there are a lot of homeless in the area etc so coming into a dark backyard with only my daughter with me really made me uneasy. There were 2 porch lights on the side of the house but the bulbs were burnt out, as were several other bulbs in the house. They were repaving streets for 2 blocks in every direction which meant us having to park in an alley and walk as there is no driveway or access to the front door of the home. The door is keyed in both directions, meaning you have to lock the door from the inside using a key which doesn’t seem practical in case of an emergency. Lastly, there were no curtains on the large windows facing out to the backyard which added to the home feeling scary. Overall, if someone loves an antique, historic vibe and isn’t easily worried by things then maybe none of these things would be an issue. For me, there were too many things to be anxious about.

Convenient to grocery and U of A

This rental was spacious, with three bedrooms not adjoining and an available additional bed/bath. This set-up was convenient for us, booking several months in advance for a U of A move-in, and not being sure if more family members would join us. Two blocks to Safeway, Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop, and El Beto Mexican. We always had great, convenient food within walking distance. Air conditioning was great during the 105F outdoor heat, and even throughout the house. 76F was the recommended temp - Tucson is very energy conscious. The courtyard is shaded, which was great in the summer heat. Lots of bird action, if that’s your interest. From the back yard, we saw a Cooper’s Hawk and a Northern Cardinal, along with verdin, hummingbirds, and lesser goldfinches. We would definitely stay here again. One thing to note ahead of time - you need to bring your sign-on for Netflix or other apps. There is not a guest account. But the Wi-Fi kept up with our individual entertainment devices. :)

Outstanding birding base camp!

I've been remiss in not submitting this review since my family and I stayed here in August 2021, so here goes... We came out to Tuscon to participate in the Southeast Arizona Birding Festival. Well, my wife and son mainly participated; I had to work remotely for a couple of those days. I camped myself in the front bedroom with a small desk and found it an ideal location to get work done. We couldn't have asked for a more conveniently located place to make our birding base camp! Most of the festival meet-up events were only a short drive away, as are many great dining and entertainment options. Even sitting in the courtyard provided a great birding opportunity! TBH, we mostly spent our downtime in the living room resting and watching Netflix, so know that there are plenty of good delivery options as well. There were only two drawbacks, both minor and temporary. one involved the bathtub plumbing which was quickly addressed by the property management; the other was related to road construction on the two major arteries near the house. Hopefully the construction will have been completed by the time I post this review. All in all, this is a really nice, comfortable property that's an excellent place to rest and recharge. If we ever come back to Tucson for another birding trip, this place will be first on our list!

Lovely property covenient to everywhere!

The house & gardens are lovely, very comfortable and convenient to everywhere in Tucson. We enjoyed our breakfasts watching butterflies in the garden, walks to the UA campus, proximity of many restaurants and easy access to the highway to reach hiking and parks. The house has abundant outdoor lighting and a locking gate as well as being located in a quiet neighborhood. We felt very safe throughout our stay. Lisa is a perfect host. We had a great week and would definitely stay here again!

Charming!

Such a charming home with a beautiful courtyard! Exceeded my expectations and is one of the best vacation homes I’ve stayed in. The neighborhood is so quiet and quaint and felt very safe. Near Safeway and gas station which was convenient. There is no driveway, so you park on the street, but there is plenty of space. It was very dark when we arrived at night, so have a flashlight ready. My parents stayed in the guest house but ended up hanging with us since there is no TV in that room. My teenage kids were happy with their rooms. The bed was comfortable and the house had everything we needed. We would all stay again!

Family of 5

We could not have been more pleased (location, comfortable furnishings, and excellent water pressure). This house and outdoor space was just what we needed for 3 boys between 16-19 yr and two parents. We enjoyed our bedrooms, the open kitchen/tv area, and patio/garden areas. Parking was so easy. We thought it was great that we could walk to campus for the basketball game.

A little private paradise...

Actually, this lovely house exceeded our expectations! There were four of us and it was a perfect size - homey and comfortable - we also used the guest house for our fourth guest and it was delightful! Beautiful gated property feels very private and the outdoor spaces are perfect for a relaxing glass of wine before exploring Tucson in the evening. Location is great - near the university but an easy Uber ride to downtown. Loved it and highly recommend it.

Great wonderful old historic house to stay in

Live in Phoenix area. For years we have always stayed at Loews Ventana, and although they advertise as being pet friendly, our recent experiences with them have been anything but that. In addition to being as great for our bow-wow's, we enjoyed everything about this house and its location in an historic central area of Tucson and it's closeness to our favorite restaurants in Tucson.. Besides being very beautifully renovated inside, the yard was beautifully done, enjoyed just sitting outside with a glass of wine. Only negatives I have are petty. It's the only VRBO or Airbnb place so far that did not provide coffee or have a bottle of wine and some food goodies for you on your arrival, but like I noted, these are petty and am looking forward to booking there again when we come to Tucson. Would recommend this place to anyone, Terry & Sue Solomon

I came to Arizona to attend graduate school and stayed. Why not! The weather is perfect.

Why they chose this property

I love older homes. I purchased this house and renovated it. I lived in it for 18 years and adore the backyard, especially the patio with the fountain and Mexican fan palm.

What makes this property unique

Lovely historic home in the heart of the city.
