The cottage is charming and has a very interesting Gulfport history. It is a quintessential old time Florida beach house that is well furnished. The sofas and beds are very comfortable. The location is the best. It's perfect for enjoying the music culture of Gulfport or just walking around town. The beach is close and the pier is at the end of the street. There is a nice sized table in the back yard for enjoying outdoor meals or playing games. Communication with the owner was fast, friendly and informative. Definitely recommend.
Everything was great. Location can’t be beat: One block from the beach, one block from the shops and bars, all an easy walk. The house is a 1920's bungalow, as such it has a few quirks but that is exactly what makes up its charm. Melissa was a great host; whenever you need something you can call or (better) text her, and she responds very quickly. Overall, would I stay here again in a heartbeat.
We were in town to visit Eckherd College. The location of this property was fantastic. We could walk to restaurants and the waterfront. The house also had everything we needed for visiting nearby Ft Desoto (Sunscreen, sun hats, beach towels, etc)
Overall we had a good stay here. It was nice to be able to walk to so much (beach, local restaurants and shops) and the beds in the home were quite comfortable. The home was built in 1923 and you can tell. While there have been some updates and things done to make the home look nice, other items could use some care. Both the front and back doors don't have a proper seal, allowing small bugs to get inside; the toilet isn't bolted to the ground; the shower head, bathroom vent, and ceiling fans haven't been cleaned in ages; and the bathroom door couldn't close and had obvious damage. All of that being said, the home is in a good location in Gulfport and great if you're looking for a small town feel stay.
We all loved our stay at this quirky cottage in the gorgeous little town of gulfport. Fantastic location, very short walk (a minute) from the beach/town centre. This lovely well equipped, immaculate cottage had heaps of character, felt very homely and was the perfect location to enjoy all this hidden gem of a town had to offer. After 2 weeks spent in busy Orlando we couldn't have found a more ideal property/town to unwind in. Highly recommend.
This house is lovely! A short walk to the pier, shops and beach (within a few blocks). Gulfport is such a great little town and this house was in a wonderful location!! The property owners even leave beach towels and chairs for you to use. St. Pete Beach is about a 20 minute drive away for a bigger, more touristy type of vibe. We loved this place and hope to return!
The only thing I would suggest is maybe a curtain closure for the back bedroom and/or curtains over the bamboo blinds, but that's the city gal in me wanting to fully close up shop at night.
We had a wonderful stay in Gulfport. The home was very clean and exactly as described with items needed for an extended stay. It was decorated so nicely with beautiful art in every room. It was in the best location to walk to the water, to walk a block over to shops and a variety of restaurants, and just to enjoy the overall charm of Gulfport. The owner was pleasant to deal with and quick to respond to any requests. We definitely plan to come back!
Stayed for two weeks with our dog. We love Gulfport. So walkable and friendly. The house is very comfortable and Melissa is a great host. We enjoyed many local restaurants and outdoor bars, a dolphin watching pontoon ride by Salty Pelican and our dog loved the area dog beaches and the fenced backyard
What a great Bungalow! Very convenient to everything we needed and a short lyft ride into St. Pete. We slept great, even through a hurricane. My only disappointment was that the red bike had a hole in the back tire, it was giving off great 'Pee-wee Big Adventure' vibes. The blue bike worked great. We hope to stay here again, next time we are in the area. Thank you for this experience.
This is a delightful bungalow, with some history, outlined in a series of old photos on the wall. Melissa was an attentive hostess. The place was nicely appointed and functional without doing anything,
The location was very convenient and Gulfport is a wonderful small community.
I hope to return here in years to come.
This cottage is located in the perfect spot for walking to the shops and restaurants in Gulfport. The entire place was comfortable and just what we needed for our trip.
We had only a short stay in the area but Melissa’s home was a perfect spot to retreat to and to launch off on our explorations. Her neighborhood is very sweet and a block to a strip of eateries, cafés and live music. Lots to do in a short driving distance. The bungalow was very clean and comfortable and Melissa is very clear and quick with communication.
Melissa was great with responding to my questions. The property was so lovely on both the outside and inside. The inside was very spacious for my family. Great location and easy to get to basically anywhere we wanted. The walking distance to some really nice shops and restaurants was a great perk! The house was clean. Was provided with alot of things I didn't need to worry about. The ability to use a washer at home was a blessing. I will definitely stay here again!
Quaint home and great location. Melissa was also easy to contact and very accommodating. Walking distance to restaurant and bar. House have everything you need for a week stay. Plenty of parking. Nice backyard to hang out at night & do some bbq. And best of all super clean inside of the house. And thank you Melissa for leaving the ac on before our arrival so the house is cool. Definitely will stay here again.
The property was very nice. Perfect for our family - my wife, myself, our infant and his grandparents. It was a short walk to restaurants, bars, the main strip of stores, and the beach. Also, the property manager was very friendly and accommodating. We had a wonderful time.
The house is cozy and comfy and spotlessly clean. The pups loved the back yard, too
We were so happy to park the car once on arrival and not need to drive again until checkout. Everything is a very easy walk.
Local artwork throughout the home was a perfect touch.
The house is perfect for a family get-away. The house is clean, and the host was nice and accommodating. It's super close to lots of fun places to go. Highly recommend!

About the host

I am a landscape designer for the last 20 years from Buffalo, New York (originally from NJ). I decided to move to Gulfport after many years of visiting. I traded the snow for four seasons of sailing and sunshine. I currently enjoy sailing my 23' Compac sailboat, kayaking, fishing off the Skyway Pier and snorkeling off Fort DeSoto State Park coastline (among many, many other awesome places).
Why they chose this property
At first the location is what I loved about this property. Then it was the house's rich history that really sold me! While not having much architectural details left to preserve, I am able to at least continue its story for many years to come. In 1921, a hurricane had demolished the Gulfport Casino. From that lumber, my house was constructed and known as 'The White House'. There were very few houses at this time. The builder was the Mayor, Nathan McKinney, who built it as a wedding gift for his daughter and son-in-law, Ethel and Leander White. Leander's mother was the daughter of the very first settlers of Gulfport, the Barnett Family). With great appreciation for the volunteers at the Gulfport Historical Society (well worth a visit), I was able to find original photographs of the house which I have kept to its integrity as best I can.
What makes this property unique
There's not a bad seat in the house! The views of tropical shrubs and palms, sweet smells of orange blossoms along with the sound of the many birds that enjoy the area (especially the parrots!) - entertain the senses. The bay breeze carries the smell of Stella's getting ready for the brunch crowd. In the morning, you can sit in the front shady garden at the bistro and enjoy your coffee and the friendly faces walking by. Then you can choose to sit in the large fenced in private backyard later in the day and enjoy the winding paths of mature tropicals, cactus, birds and plentiful fruit trees. The early part of the year is best for pink grapefruit picking along with the two kinds of oranges. The location couldn't be better! All the exciting life of Gulfport, but also the peaceful setting. Its the kind of place that you just don't feel like getting in the car - its a real vacation.
