About this property

THE REDBAND CABIN - 2 acres at Rocky Point on Klamath Lake - Boat, hike, fish!

THE CABIN
This cabin is a hand-built, 3 bedroom, 1 bath, 1450 sq ft home located on Rocky Point Road directly across from Harriman Springs on Upper Klamath Lake. It is nestled on 1.3 acres (4 lots) in the small community of Rocky Point, Oregon and surrounded by towering old growth Douglas Firs. Visitors are welcomed by a large wrap-around redwood front porch with a wooden swing, 2 handmade juniper Adirondack chairs, an outdoor dining table, and gorgeous views. Inside the cabin, the great room is highlighted by a vaulted rustic wood beam ceiling, a beautiful lodgepole pine staircase, and a large brick fireplace with a wood stove to keep you warm on those cold winter nights. The interior is decorated with comfortable overstuffed leather couches and rustic cabin decor.

The master bedroom is downstairs and has French doors that open to the great room. The floors in the master are hand-cut pine and there is a large window that looks out the front of the house. There is also a wood stove in the master bedroom and a large, comfortable king sized bed. The bathroom is accessed through the master bedroom and consists of knotty pine paneling, a stone counter top, and a large updated tile shower. There is also an additional bedroom that is accessed through the master where there are two twins beds. At the top of the pine staircase is another large, tastefully decorated bedroom with a brand new queen sized memory foam mattress. The cabin will sleep 4 very comfortably. All linens and towels are provided.

The fully stocked kitchen has been remodeled with hickory cabinets and new countertops. There is a double oven, electric range, full sized refrigerator, microwave, a Keurig coffee maker, and a regular coffee pot. There are also two outdoor charcoal grills available for use. Just bring your own food! The dining table has seating for six, but can be expanded with the addition of a leaf.

OUTSIDE
Enjoy dining or kicking back with your favorite beverage on either one of the decks in the front or back yard. There is a picnic table in the fenced backyard that sits on a cobblestone patio. Enjoy roasting marshmallows or cooking over an open fire in the outdoor rock firepit. On the north side of the cabin is a large open grassy area that is perfect for throwing the football or playing horseshoes. There is plenty of room to park your boat or ATV/snowmobile trailer in front of the cabin and you can store your bikes and kayaks in the garage. We own the empty lots on both sides of the cabin so there is plenty of privacy and room for outdoor activities.

THE LAKE
At almost 30 miles long and up to eight miles wide and depths of up to 60 feet in some places, Upper Klamath Lake is the largest freshwater body west of the Rocky Mountains. One of our favorite things to do while at the cabin is fish and hang out on the lake. In the summer the redband trout, a strain of landlocked steelhead, come from all over the 94,000 acre lake into Pelican Bay at Rocky Point. It is not uncommon to catch trout over 8lbs! This is a favorite spot for fly fishermen. Boats can be rented at Harriman Springs Resort across the street or Rocky Point Resort about a mile down the road next to the free public boat launch. There is a public fishing dock at the boat launch as well.

Klamath Lake is a birdwatcher’s paradise and home to over 350 species of birds. Bald Eagles are often seen close to the cabin. There are multiple nearby access points for the Klamath Basin Birding Trail and Upper Klamath Canoe Trail including Rocky Point, Malone Springs, and Crystal Springs. Canoeing and kayaking enthusiasts can follow over 9 miles of canoe trails that roam throughout the marshes and waterways of Pelican Bay.

Harriman Springs Resort is directly across the street from the cabin and has recently been completely renovated. The restaurant offers a rustic gourmet menu with amazing panoramic views of the Mountain Lakes Wilderness area and Pelican Bay. Their bar offers a variety of craft and domestic beer on tap and in bottles, a fine collection of wine, and an excellent selection of liquors and spirits. Guests can order from the restaurant's rustic gourmet menu and enjoy the large patio deck on the edge of the springs. They also offer boat rentals, mooring for your boat, and there is a small store for any necessities you may have forgotten.

Rocky Point Resort is just a quick walk down the road. They specialize in Pacific Northwest cuisine in their lodge restaurant and also offer fuel and boat rentals.

SURROUNDING AREA
The cabin serves as a great staging point for your Crater Lake National Park adventures. The park entrance is only 40 minutes to the north. Additionally, there are at least 15 different trailheads with access to the Mountain Lakes Wilderness and Sky Lakes Wilderness areas all within 15 minutes of the cabin. Popular hikes include Cherry Creek, Nannie Creek, Mount McLaughlin, and the Pacific Crest Trail. Mushroom hunting is popular in the spring. There are multiple logging roads and trails nearby to ride mountain bikes, ATVs, and snowmobiles. Snowshoeing and cross country skiing are popular during the winter months. Lake of the Woods Resort is only 7 miles away and features water sports, boat rentals, a store, restaurant, and excellent swimming beaches. Fishing opportunities are endless in nearby lakes and rivers such as Lake of the Woods, Fourmile, Howard Prairie, Hyatt, the Williamson River, the Wood River, and the Rogue River. There are numerous lakes in the wilderness that can only be accessed by foot. The waterfowl hunting around Rocky Point on Klamath Lake is also phenomenal. This is truly an outdoorsman’s paradise!

If you like to golf, the Running Y Ranch Resort is only 15 minutes east towards Klamath Falls. Their golf course was designed by Arnold Palmer and has been ranked in the top 100 of all courses in the United States.

The cabin is extremely well stocked with all cooking items you will need. Just bring your own food, drinks, charcoal/lighter fluid (if you'd like to grill), and coffee. The Odessa Store is about two miles down the road on 140. Their store offers gas, diesel, propane, liquor, and groceries.

Klamath Falls is only 30 minutes to the east; Medford and the Rogue River Valley are only 45 minutes to the west.

Spacious, comfy, and cozy
We really loved this cabin, especially the dog-friendly touches like the fenced yard, dog toys and dishes (although we brought our own). I especially loved reading on the front deck--it's so quiet and peaceful. Other than a strange guy up the street in a trailer yelling and punching his trailer while we were walking by, the neighborhood was so peaceful and quiet. Crater Lake was an easy 45-minute drive away, and we did some hikes there and near the cabin. It was a really lovely place to stay and we would definitely stay there again. In fact, we recommended it to a friend who was very interested.

Great, quiet, and super close to Crater Lake
We planned a road trip with a stop to see Crater Lake. After a long day on the road is was great to get in, unload, and let the dogs stretch their legs in the fenced yard. Having a fenced yard was awesome for the relax factor. The chairs outside were great to relax and the hosts were awesome to have citronella candles and bug spray on hand. Being right across from a lake, expect some amazing bird watching but also some mosquitoes. Everything was clean and even though it was in the 80's outside, the cabin stayed very comfortable. I highly recommend.

Hidden Gem 💎
This property was as good as description & pictures. We loved how close we were to Crater Lake where we spent 3 days hiking. We grilled out 3 nights at the property & has a great meal (steak & salmon) across the road at the marina. This property definitely felt like a home away from home!

Best Cabin I've Rented Yet!
Jay and Kathryn do everything to make this a good stay. The cabin (house) is fully furnished in every way. Each communicated well and even checked mid-week how we were doing and if we needed anything. The location is quiet, you can feed the birds. The kitchen is fully stocked so you can cook to your heart's content. Driving to Crater Lake is convenient, as is Klamath Falls, Lake of the Woods, Lava Beds National Monument, and LOT'S of hiking trails. Lake put-in is across the street if you do any water activity. Driving to Ashland/Medford for wine tasting is near enough too. Will definitely stay again when in the area!

Great property for a Crater Lake adventure!
Finding lodging within proximity to Crater Lake can be incredibly tricky. This property is quite the hidden gem! It's only about a 45 min - 1 hr drive to the entrance to Crater Lake. The cabin itself is lovely, and was perfect for our family of 4. The porch is incredibly relaxing. We sat out there for hours! The backyard area is also lovely, with a great fire-pit (we were unable to use that area, as there was a fire ban in effect during our stay, and the temps were VERY hot). The house doesn't have AC, but stays very cool even without. The property is across the street from a resort that rents boats for a large lake area. The resort is REALLY struggling, so not sure how long it will stay open (it's for sale). But we did rent a pontoon boat and enjoyed a lovely evening cruise one night. There were owner's personal items in closets and cupboards and fridge which was odd for a vacation rental. But it wasn't a huge problem. Overall, a very pleasant stay!

Dog Friendly Getaway!
We enjoyed our relaxing weekend at this clean & cozy cabin. Everything we needed was already there even extra towels and bowls for the dog. The neighborhood was inviting and the surrounding area was beautiful. Unfortunately we were unable to see Crater Lake due to weather conditions so we look forward to returning in the summer to explore more!

Clean and serene
We really enjoyed our stay! The house was very clean. Carpets and kitchen tile were replaced the week before and the bathroom is very up-to-date. The kitchen was very well stocked and had everything we needed. The backyard was really great. Fenced for kids or dogs. We played cornhole and hung out on the porch every day. The house also had some great games. We played labyrinth and sequence every night. Great place to hang out and very close to outdoor recreation. We launched our kayaks up the road at the Rocky Point Resort every morning and kayaked the “canoe route”, with 5+ miles of beautiful nature and bird watching. RPR also rents kayaks, small boats and a pontoon boat. Really enjoyed this property and had an excellent worry free vacation.

Trust the reviews!
The cabin was everything it promised! My hisband and I stayed 3 nights in August of 2018. It was super clean, had a VERY comfortable master bedroom bed, and had everything we needed including bug spray! It was the perfect location for exploring the area. Having no wifi or cable allowed us to disconnect and we truly slowed down and relaxed. We wanted to fish so we rented a boat across the street at Harriman’s Resort one day and the next we rented a pontoon boat at Lake of the Woods where we returned for dinner one night! In the late afternoons we enjoyed a glass of wine, conversation, and books on the beautiful porch, me on the porch swing and my husband on one of the beautifully crafted Adirondack chairs overlooking the open field and pines directly across the street. We loved it! Thank you for sharing your property on VRBO!
