About this property

Casa Escapada... near beaches, in the village yet surrounded by nature.

Casa Escapada awaits you. Surround yourself with sounds of nature yet be in the village. The property is fenced with entrance gate, very private, parking for two cars inside gate and jungle on three sides. You will find Casa Escapada immaculate and very well maintained. Not only are there many birds, butterflies and hummingbirds but we are very fortunate to be on a Morpho trail and most mornings you will see two or more Morpho butterflies come through the gardens. Mid day a refreshing mountain breeze comes through the porcelain tile terrace while you relax in a hammock or swim in the ceramic tile salt water pool.

There are numerous beautiful beaches along the coast with the first, Playa Tortuga, only one mile from the house. Playa Tortuga is home to the turtle reserve, Reserve Playa Tortuga. Next, heading north, is Playa Ventanas, Ojochal's own beach, which is very picturesue with shady palms and sea cave. Then comes Playa Bellena which is a protected marine park and home to humpback whales during their mating season. And many more beaches continuing along the coast.

A few minutes drive up Calle Perozoso you will find two elegant restaurants where you can enjoy amazing sunsets. Azul at El Casello or Bamboo Room at Alma... or you can go to a close by beach and sit on a log with your own beverage for a different view.

Food is what makes Ojochal special. It is a culinary destination packed with adventure. Besides Azul and Bamboo Room there are other culinary eaterys to include Exotica, Citrus, Ylang Ylang and more.

The adventure can include snorkeling or diving at Cano Island, white water rafting, zip lining, ATV treks, sea kayaking, deep sea fishing, hiking, horseback riding or calmer, no less enjoyable, things such as walking the Whales's Tail at Playa Ballena, whale and dolphin watching, visiting an animal rescue, watching turtles hatch and make their first trek to the sea, walking the beach or just observing nature from the terrace.

Great little house with amazing yard and awesome kitchen amenities!

We stayed at Casa Escapada for a month and had a really great stay. It was close enough to stores that we were able to not have a car and still be able to get groceries etc. The pool was perfect for the kids, and the yard is expansive and private. We cooked almost all our own meals and the kitchen here had everything we needed which is rare for a vacation rental. We saw blue morphos nearly every day. A great base for exploring this beautiful part of the country! The traffic from the street was a little loud during certain times of the day, but not bad, and goes along with being in a central location on the paved road. Highly recommend!

Little paradise

We spent 10 lovely days in Casa Escapada and we highly recommend the house. The description is very accurate, the communication before and during our stay with Lee Ann was quick, unproblematic and direct. Check-In and Check-Out went smoothly. Her written manual inside the house has plenty of good recommendations about the area - it was very helpful. Our boys loved the pool, the animals in the garden and the wonderful beaches.

Beautiful, simple & comfortable home in paradise!

We really enjoyed our month-long stay at Casa Escapada. Lee Ann has decorated and equipped her home to provide the simple, necessary comforts, fitting in very well with south-east Costa Rica's natural environment. The garden areas which she has developed surrounding the home are beautiful and an attraction for many birds and butterflies. The saltwater pool was a refreshing big-plus, both when we hung-out at home for the day and after a day spent out-and-about taking in the many area attractions. Lee Ann herself was a pleasure to communicate with regarding the rental transaction, recommendations for local vendors and attractions and regional sights and excursions. We would definitely stay at Casa Escapada when we visit south-west Costa Rica again!

Escapada was our paradise for three weeks

What we needed was three weeks away from the end of a long Vermont winter. What we got was 21 days of paradise. The setting was perfect for walking to the store or many of the incredible restaurants. Tortuga Beach is within walking distance and there are many more within a short drive. The activities are boundless. We went on the waterfall horseback ride and took the boat up the Sierpe River with crocodiles, toucans, scarlet macaws and three varieties of monkeys. We stayed overnight in Puerto Jimenez (Port Jim) where from our balcony we watched the local kids jump off the pier at sunset. All of the Osa Peninsula was exciting. For our first week all we did was stay at Escapada and read from Lee Ann's library of around thirty books. The hammocks were close to the pool so whenever it got hot, we jumped in. The pool area is private enough that a swim suit is not always necessary. There is a delightful outdoor shower for before and after the pool. There is a grill (ranchero) so we alternated between cooking at home and going to a diverse selection of restaurants. We went to Exotica (French), Sur (Euro), Mamma e Papa (Italian), Frederico's (Pizza), Ylang Ylang (Indonesian), Terraba (Seafood) and the Bambu Room (bar, music, sunsets,American food). All these reataurants were within two miles ... most you could walk to. Escapa is the right combination of a reasonable price and a very comfortable stay. We highly recommend it.

Relaxing, and convenient!

A week at La Escapada is a perfect week. You can walk to an uncrowded beach or two local waterfalls; or just chill in the hammock and cool off in the pool. Games to play , and good wifi signal eliminate frustration with other homes at this reasonable rental rate. Fully equipped kitchen for easy meal prep, or enjoy the "Culinary Capital of Costa Rica" by visiting one of several close-by options. Man selling fish at street corner= a nice fresh meal to savor for a long time! We'll be back!

A Great escape at Casa Escapada!

We just returned from a wonderful adventure vacation in Ojochal, Costa Rica. The house is on a gravel road a few kilometers from the highway, about a five minute walk to two grocery/liquor stores and less than that to one of several excellent restaurants. We especially liked the Bamboo Room and Exotica restaurant. Though it's on a main road, the lot is large and you feel like you are in the jungle. The grounds are beautiful: cacao, coconut and lime trees on the property as well as pineapple and banana plants and many different varieties of flowers. We spent a lot of time in the pool watching owl eye and morpho butterflies, iguanas and several species of birds cruise through the property. This area is known as the southern zone, and we wanted to see what it was like in the "green" season. Since I come from a dry climate I was somewhat concerned when I read how much rain the area gets in September and October, but the rain was one of my favorite things. I spent several evenings watching the rain from one of two hammocks on the patio, and the setting was so comfortable there were several days that I didn't venture from the property. I enjoyed my walks to Tortuga beach (about 22 minutes) and the river right across from the main gate, but I would recommend having a car (we were able to have one delivered and picked up at the property). Lee Ann was very helpful in answering our questions, and her guide book at the house was very informative on things to do including tips on restaurants, markets and beaches. I spent a total of 5 weeks here, and it flew by way too fast!

Jungle, critters, beaches... so much!

We have been at Casa Escapada for 2 months. We have LOVED it. It's right in the village, so it's easy to run to the store, but the lot is very big so you still feel like you're all alone. The pool has kept my young boys very happy when we're not able to go to the beach and just need to relax. Jesus Lizards and Iguanas stop by when we're quiet, and the yard is always full of butterflies. We got a big bunch of bananas from the yard as well as limes, guavas and mamon chinos! There are several little games for the kids when they are swimmed out, and a little path thru the woods where we've seen toucans and other colorful birds. We've really enjoyed our time here, and are sad to be leaving. We'll definitely come back!

amazing escape and unwind casa.

We recently spent 10 days @ Lee Ann's casa in Ojachal. Her place is perfect for the traveler looking to get away from 'development' sites. Perfect for the 2 of us, but it could easily work for 2 couples, uncomplicated, simple and now she has a pool. More than a dipping pool (a la Key West) and just the right size for afternoon cocktails, with in pool seating area..2 hammocks for the afternoon nap on the covered porch. One of the best dicoveries was that Ojachal has many fine dining options, including 2 five star restauarnts..Yes, i mean that. Check them out yourself ..Citrus and Exotica. You could walk to either one from her place. We also were close enough to the Corcovado National Park to shedule a 3 day excursion to the jungle..monkeys galore, tapir coati and lucky enough to spy 2 pumas lounging in the noonday heat under some brush next to a river..Thx. to our intrepid guide Carlos. We are planning our trip for next year already..An added plus is that the cost is quite reasonable

Amazing stay

Our family of 5 stayed here during the month of June - it was amazing. Lee Ann was very helpful and answered all of our questions prior to arriving. Ojochal is central to everywhere we wanted to go - beautiful beaches, Corcovado, near some happening local eateries and destinations, and out of the way of the heavy touristy areas. The home is comfortable and (my favorite) the windows and doors have been carefully fitted with screens to ensure that the mosquitoes stay outside. Some other of our favorite things about Lee Ann's house: Getting to know Carloy and Leo (as well as other great local characters), bird watching in her yard, short walks to nearby Playa Tortuga, that half of the property is jungle, jungle noises at night, finding exciting wildlife day and night, hammocks for napping, and boogie boards and folding chairs that made the beach trips spectacular. It made for a totally amazing stay.

Engulfed in nature

Exactly what I was looking for! I spent a month in this humble little home and couldn't have had a more relaxing vacation. The amount of nature to be seen is amazing. It's only short walk to the beach that is adjacent to a bird sanctuary. Monkeys, macaws, and about 20 nesting egrets put on a daily show that concluded with amazing sunsets(I missed only 5 sunsets in 30 days, each one unforgettable). Hiking to a waterfall on my birthday was a treat. However you need not leave the property to get daily visits from nature. Beautiful butterflies, hummingbirds, and toucans building a nest in a tree on the property were highlights. Away from tourists, Ojochal is a pleasant village with kind and welcoming people. I made some lifelong friends in the month that I was there and plan on returning. Pura vita!

Peaceful & Relaxing

I just returned from a wonderful experience at Casa Escapada in Ojochal. LeeAnns home is very peaceful and quaint with its wonderful gardens and a fresh water brook across the street. I especially enjoyed relaxing in the hammocks on the outdoor lighted patio. Morpho butterflys and humming birds flittered thru her yard and I experienced Howler monkeys as I took my morning walks. The home is well maintained and clean with ceiling fans throughout. There are many beautiful beaches close by which have not been developed, so not crowded. Its only a few minutes drive to excellent restaurants, my favorites were Exotica ( a walk up the road from LeeAnn's home) and PorQeNo?(a 15 minute drive to Dominical) with a absolutely stunning views of the Pacific ocean. Sipping a glass of wine and watching the sunset from El Castillo, only a few minutes drive, is also something you don't want to miss. There are groceries stores, boutiques, liquor stores, and markets are close by. And if you want some night life, LeBistro is just down the street. The local people are very friendly and helpful. Truly a wonderful experience and I highly recommend.

Wow... what a nice experience!

I had stayed at Escapada several years ago and just returned for a visit recently. It was nice before but quite basic... with the addition of tile floors and relocated front entry it is drastically improved. It also seems the new roof has lowered the temperature inside significantly. Oh and the gardens are beautiful. I love Ojochal for its small village experience... I will be returning again. All in all a fabulous experience.

Comfortable house in an excellent location

My wife and I spent two weeks in Lee Ann's house. It had everything we needed for our stay. We enjoyed the sound of the river nearby. The waterfall located about two miles uphill is absolutely gorgeous. What impressed us most about Ojochal is how well the people take care of the natural environment whose beauty appears at every turn. If you like trees, flowers and water, you'll like this place. We met several people (Costa Ricans, Canadians and Europeans) that were very nice and interesting. We wouldn't hesitate to return during the dry season. Marcos

Charming Garden Home

Ojochal is a small multinational community right off the Costarena Highway and Lee Ann’s beautiful garden home is just a few kilometers from the stunning Pacific coast. The kitchen is fully functional (no microwave, but I didn’t miss it), the beds are comfortable, the shower is great by Costa Rican standards (plenty of hot water!!), and the hammocks looking out on the garden are equipped with lighting. There are many rental houses in Costa Rica, and I’m sure most of them are nice and well-priced. I stayed at another rental property that met my expectations, and so did other travelers I met. So let me detail how this property and its owner exceeded my expectations. Lee Ann answered many questions for me prior to booking, answered follow up questions on a range of topics - running the gamut from transportation to activities both local and in other regions. And anything she didn’t know, she offered a different resource. Sonia Leon at the Uvita Information Center is a gem. Most importantly, I never once felt like i was wearing out my welcome with my questions. Once I arrived, there was a bounty of information in a binder she keeps at her kitchen table. This details her impressions of the nearest beaches, good restaurants, activities, and some of the services (tour companies, transportation companies, etc) she has used. I found a car EXTREMELY helpful in Ojochal. You can walk to some things (grocery store, restaurants), and there is bus service, but it’s not a walking friendly area like the bigger towns in Costa Rica. In addition to the great hospitality and charm of Ojochal, I found the location perfect for my needs. Ojochal is about 45 minutes north of Sierpe - a great place to see wildlife. Uvita is about 15 minutes north, and Dominical another 20 minutes, and those are nice beach towns. I was also totally content to hang out in Ojochal. I strongly recommend La Escapada and Ojochal. The house offers modest but complete accommodation, the location is close to destinations as disparate as Sierpe and Manuel Antonio, and the hospitality is second to none.

La Escapada is a great place to stay

My wife and I stayed at La Escapada for the month of March a couple of years ago. The place is simple but clean. It is located in the village of Ojochal on the road that has the super market,a superb restaurant and a bakery. There are also individuals who sell fish and fruit. You can walk to two beaches although it is a long walk. With a car, Uvita to the north offers a bank, a super market and good retaurants. To the south is Palmar Norte which has internet cafes, restaurants and gasoline. South of that is the Osa Peninsula, the most bio-diverse place on Earth. The house consists of two bedrooms,a kitchen,a livingroom, and a bathroom and now there is a bodega. I spent very little time inside since I hung out on the covered patio outside reading and listening to the monkeys and parrots. The price is great for the location. ...Chris and Maura

Pure Costa Rica

The location of La Escapada is great for exploring the Ojochal de Osa region. During our stay we visited 4 beautiful beaches within a 5-20 minute drive. Plus it is near a dive operation in Uvita which took us to Cano Island for a remarkable scuba adventure. While La Escapada appears basic in ammenities, it was clean, totally functional and very relaxing while enjoying morning coffee on the patio as the butterflies fluttered through the palms. If you are looking for a resort, this is not your place, however if you are looking for Costa Rican authenticity, value and location, this is it.
