About this property

Family-oriented cottage on Black Butte Ranch

Accommodation: New central air for those hot summer days and heat in the winter, even though we have a great fireplace. You will be comfortable, no matter how hot or cold it is outside.
Our cabin, at beautiful Black Butte Ranch, Ridge Cabin 9.
This comfortable home is nestled within the towering Ponderosa pines of Black Butte Ranch on a quiet cul-de-sac of Ridge Cabins. Just down the hill is Aspen Lake. It’s an easy walk to South Meadow Pool and tennis courts and only a short bike ride to the Glaze Meadow Recreation Center, with indoor and outdoor pools, gym, hot tub, playground, snack bar and bike rental.
The cabin has vaulted ceilings with an open floor plan between the kitchen/dining area and living room that allows for easy visiting/celebration with family and friends. The kitchen comes equipped with pantry and cabinets full of pots, pans, utensils and all the accoutrements you’d need for family cooking. There is a dishwasher for cleaning up afterwards. The dining table can expand and easily accommodate a party of eight.
Relax in the living room on comfortable furniture around the massive lava-rock fireplace or in front of the TV, with basic cable and DVD player. There is also a landline, and Wi-Fi throughout the cabin. Aside from electronics, you might just want to stare out at the woods just outside the floor to ceiling windows. Don’t be surprised if you see a herd of deer staring back at you.
On the main floor, there are two bedrooms with queen-size beds, ample closets, and recliners for quiet lounging. Main floor bath with a tub/shower also has a washer and dryer. Upstairs, there is a full-twin bunk bed and a selection of toys and games to keep kids occupied. The upstairs room has a private bath, and is also suitable for adults.
Outside is a full-size deck with grill and a table with seating for six and an umbrella for shade. There are also folding chaises for lounging in the sun.
In the outdoor storage room, you’ll find two mountain bikes with helmets and a 20 inch kid’s bike with helmet and removable training wheels. Other bikes can be rented at Glaze Meadow. We also have tennis racquets and balls if you’d like to play on the many courts around the ranch.

Our family has been coming to Black Butte Ranch for many years. It has provided a safe environment with many activities for children and adults, as well as time and space to just relax.
Our goal is to have families return again and again, as we did, to experience all that Black Butte Ranch has to offer and start making memories for your own family. Thank you for considering our home for your vacation retreat.
If you have a large group, our cabin can be rented in conjunction with one owned by friends of ours. Their cabin sleeps 9-10 and is located just across the way. Contact us to facilitate joint rental.

PLEASE NOTE THAT BLACK BUTTE RANCH CHARGES $9 PER DAY PER PERSON FOR USE OF FACILITIES SUCH AS POOLS, GYMS , SPORTS COURTS, SAUNAS ETC. THIS IS RANCH POLICY AND IS NOT UNDER OUR CONTROL.

BLACK BUTTE RANCH
Location: eight miles west of Sisters, Oregon about two and one half hours southeast of Portland.
For our guests from outside of Oregon, there is a regional airport, “Roberts Field” thirty miles away in Redmond. Commercial service is provided by Alaska Air, United, United express and Delta Connection provided by SkyWest Airlines. Car rental is available at the airport.
Black Butte Ranch is one of Central Oregon’s oldest and most desirable gated resorts. Its setting is a sprawling eighteen hundred acres framed by the Cascade Mountains and Black Butte which provide breathtaking views. The Ranch is surrounded on two sides by Forest Service lands.
Inside the ranch you will find all sorts of family-friendly activities. The ranch has two championship 18 hole golf courses; four outdoor and one year-round indoor pool; twenty-three paved tennis courts; Eighteen miles of well-maintained paved biking/walking trails; and guided horseback riding. There is a beautiful remodeled Lodge, restaurant and pool at the edge of Phalarope Lake. Eat or play in the water with a panoramic view of the Three Sisters and Mount Washington.
There are several recreation centers within Black Butte Ranch. The newest is at Glaze Meadow Recreation Complex, centrally located within the ranch. It has a year-round indoor pool and a outdoor pool; toddler pool; spray ground; large outside hot tub; fitness center; Wireless internet; sports shop; full service Spa; steam room; seasonal bike shop/rental; snowshoe and cross country ski rentals. Adjacent to this facility are lighted tennis courts; a playground with boulders for climbing; playground structures and even a circuit for beginning bikers. During the summer months there is a snack/espresso shop, for you after your morning jog or to get a pick-me-up to keep up with your busy children.
The other Recreation Center or “Rec Barn” is by the Lodge where you can rent a multitude of equipment including kayaks, stand up paddle boards or canoes. Fly fishing equipment for catch and release on Phalarope Lake can also be rented, as well as any kind of bike you might want to ride. As an aside, in case you are wondering, neither skateboards nor motorcycles are allowed anywhere on the ranch.
In the Rec Barn are games, ping pong, air hockey, planned kids camps, rock climbing and even “parent’s night out” amongst other various activities. There is also a new Sports Field that offers a full-court basketball court; two pickle ball courts; two bocce ball courts; a sanded volleyball court and two horseshoe pits. Free equipment for these activities is available for check out.
For winter sports there is downhill skiing and cross country skiing 20 minutes away at HooDoo Ski Resort or one hour away at Mt Bachelor Ski Resort. Snowmobile parks are an easy drive away. Or, you can stay at Black Butte Ranch and cross country ski/snow shoe on our bike pathways in the winter. The Recreation Department here at Black Butte Ranch is a wonderful resource to help you with not only planning your activities at the resort but also activities in the outlying areas such as rock climbing; white water rafting; hiking, climbing, fly-fishing on the headwaters of the famous Metolius River to name a few. See the Black Butte Ranch website/recreation for details and call ahead to plan your activities while at the Ranch.
There are a number of dining options at the Ranch as well, including fine dining at the beautiful Lodge with stunning views; or upstairs in the Aspen Lounge. Downstairs in the Lodge lobby is an Espresso and gift shop. Robert’s Pub is another option, it overlooks Big Meadow Golf course for fine dining or pizza to go for the children.
For shopping, the small town of Sisters is just eight miles east. It’s a charming small town with a western theme. It is well known nationally for its famous Outdoor Quilt Show. There’s also the Sisters Rodeo and well-attended Jazz and Folk Festivals. Sisters has a multitude of small shops including craft stores, antiques shops, bike and ski shops, bakeries, restaurants, pubs, pharmacy and Ray’s, a full-size grocery that serves the whole region. Besides Sisters, you can make day trips to Smith Rocks, Lava Lands, or even to Crater Lake.
Black Butte Ranch has its very own full time Police/Security; EMT’s and a Fire Department just around the corner from the cabin. Our kids love to visit the friendly firefighters. Black Butte Ranch is safe and friendly, with every recreational opportunity you might want to enjoy. We consider it a home away from home, and we hope you will also.

Very Outdated
The communication of this owner was...curt to say the least. He wanted payment outside of the VRBO payment system for additional fees that would have been well over $100 and wanted the payment through Venmo, which I have never encountered before. I reached out to VRBO customer service, and they said that I should not be making any additional payments outside of VRBO. If there are additional ranch fees than those need to be worked into the original per night fee. When we arrived, there was no hot water and buried in the instructions it was found that you have to turn on the water heater and wait for it to heat up. We have never been asked to do this in any mountain or cold weather house. The stairs to upstairs are dangerous very steep. If we did not have teenagers staying upstairs, it would have not worked for anyone to stay up there. The house was clean, but extremely dated with original furniture and BEDS. The loft beds are extremely squeaky and the downstairs beds are extremely uncomfortable. The downstair bathroom shower head feels like a fire hose pointed at your chest and the upper shower head attachment doesn't function, so is flops down and faces the wall, which is not helpful. There are other reviews that the kitchen it "well stocked" which is true, it is also filled with junk in the drawers and personal belongings that it feels like someone is currently living there, which just feels uncomfortable. We also ran out of toilet paper. Be ready to haul garbage.

Christmas Dream Come True for this Mom
My husband, 3 of our almost grown kids, cracking fire, dusting of snow, surrounded by pines, a wonderful walk in the elements, no street lights, turning off my phone, silence and solitude with coffee, and sweet laughter and interactions during games, presents and life together. Sublime. My dream Christmas. Thank you so very much. Til I book again!!

A slice of pine paradise
This is the place to go if you want to spend quiet time in the middle of a beautiful pine forest surrounded by gorgeous greenery and bountiful wildlife. We walked on well - maintained paths with deer just feet away munching on leaves. We did not have time to explore all of the ranch’s amenities, but it was a beautiful place to stay and was a perfect fit for our family.

Great time in Black Butte
This cabin was perfect for our family. It is clean and well-stocked but not fancy, so we felt comfortable and able to relax with our children and dog. We had one issue/question and the host returned our call promptly and helped us through it.

Cozy, family friendly
We found this property to be as advertised; pet friendly and a great value. Kitchen was well stocked. Plenty of towels, linens and extras that made this home perfect for extended family. First stay in BBR and will stay again. Only gripe is the bunk bed was super squeaky - ended up having our 11yr old sleep on a mattress we brought since sleeping on the top bunk was a no-go. Host was super responsive. Overall, nice cozy home in beautiful setting and close to pool and family rec center.

Ridge Cabin #9
We had a fantastic stay at Ridge Cabin #9. Great location near Aspen Lake and only a mile to Glaze Meadow Pool. We enjoyed the bike trails and lots of pool time. The cabin was well appointed with kitchen utensils and cleaning supplies. The only thing we missed was coffee the first morning, had to head down to the general store to pick some up. I should have read the amenities list and packed for a traditional coffee maker. We were visiting with family and this cabin was by far the most stocked. It is dated but everything was clean and in good condition. Comfortable beds and cool nights made for a week of great sleep! We would definitely stay again. Thanks for an awesome Black Butte Ranch.
