The Swag House is nestled in a “swag” between the hills just 5 miles north of the historical town of Dahlonega, Georgia. It is the perfect location to get away from the busy life while visiting the north Georgia mountain attractions. The Swag House is located on 38 private acres with the Chattahoochee National Forest boundary just a few feet from the back door. The first half of the driveway has been recently paved in 2019, while the 2nd half of our driveway is gravel up to the home.
The Swag House is convenient to attractions and activities enjoyed by guests of all ages. Four of Georgia’s best wineries are within 10 miles. It lies between Amicalola Falls State Park and Unicoi State Park. The Appalachian Trail crossings of Woody Gap and Neal’s Gap are only a few minutes drive from the Swag House. The Dahlonega area is known for the first gold rush in America and has a state historical “Gold Museum”, as well as two historical mines that offer tours. The “Alpine-like” village of Helen is also only a 30 minute drive away.
The Swag House was established as a family home of a local forester and his family in the early 1990’s. The home is surrounded by a small meadow with a larger mountain meadow to the south. Otherwise, typical Blue Ridge Mountain forests surround the Swag House. It is common to see whitetail deer, wild turkey and other wildlife surrounding the House and on the gravel drive into the Swag House property.
The property surrounding the home provides opportunities for "off-trail" hiking in the National Forest, as well as leisurely walks along the gravel drive.
The Swag House contains 3 bedrooms and 2 ½ baths and comfortably sleeps 6. Contact the owner to accommodate additional guests. The 3 bedrooms are upstairs. The master bedroom has a king bed and has an associated master bath with large shower with double vanity. The other two bedrooms share a bathroom that has a tub/shower combination. The second bedroom has a full size bed and the third bedroom has a queen bed and day bed. The House has a fully-equipped modern kitchen, wide screen televisions via satellite, provided WiFi internet service, and other comforts/amenities. There is a large deck and comfortable front porch for relaxing after a day of site-seeing. The large den is the focal point of the home and includes a working fireplace opposite a wall of windows that provides wonderful views of "Three Sisters Mountains" from late Fall to mid-Spring. The "library" room contains books for all ages and an antique upright piano for plinking.
The "mudroom" contains the washer/dryer and small shower for the use of guests. Linens are provided, as well as an initial supply of paper products.
We welcome your enjoyment of the Swag House during your stay in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia.
