This beautiful historic home is right in the heart of the historical Antietam National Battlefield! The original footprint of this home was built in 1790 and was originally used as a Post Office during the Civil War. Later, the building was added onto in the 1850's. There is so much to do when you stay here. Visit the Antietam National Battlefield and see the surrounding areas from the Civil War era Watch tower; visit the newly restored Burnside Bridge, hike the C&O Canal, fish the Potomac River and Antietam Creek, visit the Antietam National Cemetary. Walk around Boonsboro, MD and shop in Shepherdstown, WV.

There is a fenced in back yard for you to relax and an enclosed porch to store your bicycles during your stay.

Perfect for a stay in Sharpsburg
House is clean, pleasant with comfortable beds, a serviceable kitchen and nice common space. My husband and 2 adult children were visiting family who live in sharpsburg and their house was pretty full with other visitors. This was a perfect place for us. Highly recommend.

Authentic Historical Experience
We came into town for a family wedding and this home gave us a great feel of what life is like in a historic town. We enjoyed the Nutters Ice Cream and how close the home was to everything we needed.

This was a great historic house to stay in. All modern conveniences while staying true to the structure and history of the home and area. We enjoyed our days visiting Antietam Battle Field, Sharpsburg, and surrounding towns. Beautiful area with lots to see and very friendly people. It was nice to come back at the end of the day and relax in the house with plenty of room unlike a hotel room. Price was great also.

Terrible host — zero communication
I tried contacting the host multiple times starting the day before our stay. They never responded to a single message. I was extremely ill with the norovirus and was trying to see if we could modify our travel dates or at least have the host waive the cleaning fee, since we never arrived at the property. I never received a response from the host. We had stayed at this property before and love the Sjharpdbirg area, but would never recommend this property to anyone.

Great central location
Loved staying down the street from the famous Nutters. And to have the Big Spring right out back was fascinating. A great central location for visiting the battlefield and other sites around Washington County, MD. Comfortable house.

Love this place
This is our second stay here. A family of 6 and this time we brought our 2 dogs. We love this house. There is enough space for us with the house laid out so well. Its a charming house and feels clean. Fence out back but not fully completed (for dog owners) but not a big deal. We walked them out back anyway to pick up their business. Every evening, we walked to nutters for ice cream. It made for family memories our kids will remember for a lifetime. We love this house and will continue staying. Make sure to walk back and check out the towns old spring. Such cool history. House is perfectly located. About 26 minutes from harpers ferry and 34 from Cunningham Falls. Shepherdstown 10 minutes away. 5 minutes from a coffee shop, and Bonnies (also 5 min away) was an excellent diner breakfast. Stay here. clean.

It is a very well decorated, historical home. It has been nicely renovated over the years. It is an interesting and comfortable place to stay. There is a nice little yard out back too if you bring a pet. There are wonderful neighbors around as well.

Home is elegant and spacious and very clean. Convenient for touring Antietam and Harpers Ferry, which was our goal, and it was very cool to stay in a historic building in a historic town. Host and his team made us feel very much at home!

The name of the property "In the Heart of Antietam" fits this place perfectly. We walked to many locations from the front door. The house was very nice with lots of character. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. We would definitely recommend this place.

Beautiful house with lots of history
We had a wonderful time at this beautiful and very historic house. The amenities were exactly as described and there was plenty of room for our family of 5 adults and 1 baby. We also loved all the extras Michael provided, such as the wine and breakfast in the fridge! This place was practically on the battlefield and my parents loved being so close to such an important historical site!

Historic Antietam
The house was beautiful, clean and looked just like the pictures. The location was great and the town very cute. The listing said it supplied linens, soap, and a coffee pot. I couldn’t find a coffee pot, there was no soap and only three towels in the downstairs bathroom. In addition to that there was not a trash can for the kitchen. The upstairs bathroom was locked and my husband was able to get it open. I found on the bathroom floor a lid to a trash can but never located the actual trash can. I did reach out to the host but was unable to get a response. I also called the host upon check out to make her aware of the issue but her voice mail was full. I can’t really give this a bad review because the house was great but I do recommend checking with the host prior to booking to ensure everything listed is actually there. Kim

Super convenient!
Our family stayed here to enjoy some Civil War history. We explored Antietam, Harper's Ferry, and Monocacy Battlefield - all very accessible from this location. We enjoyed all the space we had in the house, and the multiple bedrooms. Everything was super clean and the wifi was easily accessible. Little treats in the fridge were very welcome and appreciated! We had a lovely stay!

Nice get away
We spent a fun weekend at the house in Antietam. Its a funky old house! It was big enough for us to spread out and WAY better than a hotel. Awesome ice cream store and a nice little tavern right around the corner. The snacks in the fridge and wine left by the owner were much appreciated.

Great getaway!
Stayed for a weekend trip, had a fantastic time! The house was very clean and had plenty of room for our group of 7. (4 adults and 3 kids). The snacks, coffee, and wine in the fridge were a very nice treat, too! Michael stopped by to chat and was very nice and helpful! Took the advice of the locals and ate at Cpt. Bender's Tavern (delicious!) and made sure to try the ice cream place down the street (also delicious!). Was a short drive into Harpers Ferry, WV, and we made sure to stop at the Antietam Battlefield for a bit. Overall a great place to stay!

Cold but great service.
We had a mom’s and kids weekend and this place was mostly perfect. The history was cool. It was spacious and location couldn’t have been better. The heat did go out the day before we were scheduled to leave, which is the only reason I didn’t give it a perfect review. The property manager and staff were super responsive and apologetic and as helpful as they could be dropping off space heaters etc. I know stuff like that is also to be expected in old houses, but it was chilly! Based on the service though I would absolutely stay again and have no qualms recommending to others.

Very Solid Experience
This is a very solid VRBO. Pros: - Location is excellent; right in the downtown Sharpsburg next to a yummy ice cream place. It's easy to drive to and from. - Parking was good. There's a public lot across the street (no overnight there) and street parking in front of the unit. - There's a good amount of space in this unit with three bedrooms, a living room, dinning room, and kitchen. - The wifi is blazing fast; I was getting over 300 mbps when running speed tests. - It was a comfortable stay. The beds are nice and the sheets seem quality. There are a few places to adjust the temperature in the house and the system seems to work well. - Cleanliness was mostly solid; the bathrooms and bedrooms seemed well cleaned. (I'll speak about the living space in the Cons) Cons: - The main Con would only apply to people with younger kids. While the bedrooms and bathrooms were clean; the carpets in the living spaces were quite dirty. There were lots of dirt and dust specs and there was also a small lego piece sitting on the carpet, which for our child was a choking hazard. If you do not spend time down on the floor with a child, this is probably not as big of a deal. - Communication was rocky to start. I tried calling the property manager from the phone number listed on VRBO, only to find out that it is an old phone number, if you're trying to call the number ending in 8150, that is incorrect, I can't post the correct phone number in a review, but the 8150 did tell me the correct number

I'm an entrepreneur who's main focus is real estate. I grew up in Sharpsburg, Md and have always loved animals. I have 1 son who means the world to me. I love to travel and with my business, I am fortunate to be able to do that often. Please contact me with any questions regarding my listings.

Why they chose this property

I grew up in a house right down the street where my parents still live. Located closely to Antietam Battlefield and other local historic attractions drove me to purchase this home. Sharpsburg holds a special place in my heart with all the memories I have growing up there.

What makes this property unique

In 1763, Joseph Chapline laid out what was to be the first town in Washington County, Sharps Burgh (today known as Sharpsburg.)

On September 17, 1862, The Battle of Antietam (also known as the bloodiest day of the Civil War,) brought devastation, heartache and 23,110 soldiers left dead, wounded, or missing. The sense of community shared by the people of Sharpsburg provided the strength to overcome the devastation and to rebuild the town.

Presently the town looks very much as it did in the 1800s. Modern day conveniences have been added, but have been carefully planned out so as not to interfere with the historical nature of the town.

Sharpsburg is nestled beside the Antietam Battlefield, with various attractions, such as the C&O Canal, Harper’s Ferry, Washington Monument State Park, South Mountain, Crystal Grottoes Caverns, and many others just a short drive away.

Come discover the nostalgia and history that 705 people call home.
