About this property

Port Stephens Paradise Retreat

Entire 4 bedroom house for rent in Port Stephens, only a 2 hour drive from Sydney. The house is situated in a quiet location in Tanilba Bay and is opposite native bush. It is less than 5 mins walk to a koala reserve and the Tilligerry Habitat centre, which includes boardwalks through a picturesque nature reserve running adjacent to the local beach.
Tanilba Bay is a beautiful calm and shallow swimming beach particularly at high tide and a great sandy beach for children to play on or for strolling along. There are a number of parks along the waterfront reserve which offer excellent amenities including picnic tables, BBQ facilities, children’s playgrounds and boat ramps. It is a perfect place for boating, fishing, kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding.
If you are looking for a quiet getaway, away from the main tourist hubs and want to see koalas in the wild and other Australian wildlife then this is the place for you. If you’re lucky you can spot koalas, dolphins, sea turtles, pelicans, sea eagles, swans, echidnas, frilled-neck lizards, kookaburras, black cockatoos, galahs, rainbow lorikeets and many other beautiful native birds.
But still the property is close to all the action - only 20 mins from Newcastle airport, 30 mins to local wineries and Murray’s Brewery, and also to the Stockton sand dunes and other amenities and activities of Port Stephens. The Hunter Valley and its many wineries is less than an hour away. So enjoy the peace and quiet of the surrounding area or drive half an hour to all the activities of Nelson Bay or Shoal Bay which include Dolphin and Whale Watching cruises, 4WD tours on the Stockton Sand Dunes, sandboarding on the dunes, parasailing over the blue waters of Port Stephens, the water park at Nelson Bay marina, camel rides, toboggan park, go karting, movie theatre etc. Or visit Oakvale Farm and Fauna World 10 mins away or Fighterworld at Williamtown, near the airport.
The property is a near-new 4 bedroom home with a spacious open-plan design and ducted air-conditioning. The master bedroom has a luxury ensuite and walk-in robe, and a queen bed. The second bedroom has a queen bed, the third has a double bed and the fourth bedroom is set up as a sitting room but has a double futon. The property has a beautiful large, fully-equipped kitchen, full size fridge, microwave and dishwasher. There is also an alfresco area to enjoy an outdoor drink or meal overlooking the private backyard.
Breakfast provisions including cereals, fruit, bread, milk, eggs etc are provided.
There is a Lavazza pod coffee machine with milk frother provided. A welcome pack of pods will be provided.
The lounge room has a 60 inch smart TV and DVD player. There is also a small TV in the main bedroom. All linen is provided, including sheets, towels and beach towels. Washing, ironing and line-drying facilities also available if required.
There is off-street parking in the driveway and a secure double-garage.
Large DVD collection, available to borrow. Board games and some outdoor games available for use.
The Neighbourhood
The town itself is more residential than tourist hub and is friendly and relaxed. The RSL club with a restaurant and live entertainment on the weekends is 5 mins walk away, or you can use the free courtesy bus which will pick you up from the front door and drop you home as well. Also the Lemon Tree Passage Bowling Club and Tanilba Bay Golf Club are a 5 minute drive away, with restaurants and live entertainment, and also offer a free courtesy bus. The local facilities, all within walking distance include a Coles supermarket, bottle-shop (liquor store), pizza delivery, newsagent, Post Office, pharmacy, bank with ATM, butcher, bakery, coffee shop and a medical centre. In addition to the restaurants at the various clubs, there is an award-winning restaurant, The Poyers at Lemon Tree Passage (5 stars on Trip Advisor) run by a French chef, and also a number of other more casual dining options.

Highly Recommended Family Accommodation!
Our family had a truly beautiful time at this property. The location couldn't have been better for us with two small children. The beach is perfect for young kids – safe, shallow, and calm. But what truly made our stay special was the outstanding service we received from Sandra. She's an absolutely amazing host! We were welcomed with a lovely selection of food, a freshly baked cake, and even toys for the kids, which was such a thoughtful touch. The property itself was spotless—clean, tidy, and fully equipped with everything we needed. Sandra was also excellent at communicating with us before and during our stay, and her recommendations for local activities were spot-on. The location is conveniently close to Nelson Bay and other beaches, but we found ourselves drawn back to the nearby bay most days because of its peaceful atmosphere—it was exactly what we were looking for.

Tanilba Bay Stay
This was an exemplary rental experience. Sandra was professional, communicative, responsive and extremely hospitable. The residence was impeccable and her personal touches were evident. Sandra was most generous in the way she stocked and equiped the house with everything you could possibly need. Highly recommended.

Impeccably clean house
We stayed there with friends. The house is the cleanest property I've seen. Kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans and utensils. The host is very nice and accommodating. I cannot fault the property itself. Unfortunately the nearby beach is very small and there is a limited choice of things to do in the area, so we drove for approx 30 mins to Nelson Bay and Anna Bay for some good beaches, shops and restaurants.

A lovely house will all you could need
We stayed just for 2 nights to prepare for and attend my son's wedding. The house was perfect as it was spacious and had a brilliantly stocked kitchen. Bathrooms immaculately clean. Highlight was the lovely host - we did not meet face to face but she was in regular contact to check on s and give us info, provided a beautiful selection of breakfast foods and a few extra unexpected treats which were an bonus... I won't spoil the surprise though.

Absolutely fabulous stay! Perfect location, perfect property & fabulous host!
Sandra was so accommodating & went above & beyond to make the property feel like a home away from home. From a home baked cake, hot out the oven, little Easter gifts for the girls, chocolate & wine and food in the fridge & cupboards, it honestly felt like home. The rooms were all fresh & clean, everything was bright & simply perfect. Everything set up wonderfully. Can’t rate this property enough, everything you could ask for and more. The beach is a 5 minute walk over the road, with amazing walking trails , beach walks & more. As well as the shops are just around the corner. We had the best time away with the family and look forward to future stays at Sandra’s amazing holiday house. Highly recommend ☺️

Love this little gem
We were so happy to stay in Sandra’s place for the family holiday. It was very clean, and spacious. Well decorated, looked much better than the photos. Sandra was so kind and gave us a homemade cake, and lovely gifts for the Easter surprise. My daughters were so excited with these lovely gifts. It is so close to the beach and we enjoyed the most excellent sunset on the first day we arrived. We would definitely recommend Sandra’s gem to my friends and would come back again.

Wonderful accommodation
A beautifully presented property with lots of extras including all linens, a fully equipped kitchen and modern appliances throughout. Sandra, the owner, was great to deal with and went above and beyond, providing a tour of the property and she even baked us a cake. The property is well situated on a quiet street with easy access to the beach via a boardwalk bush walk .

A fantastic base to explore the area
We had an absolutely wonderful long weekend break here with our two children aged 7 and 4 and their grandparents. The house was spotless, beautifully presented and had absolutely everything you could need to stay forever, not just the weekend! Thanks to bouncy beds and powerful air con we were very comfortable indeed, and also treated wonderfully by the owners. Sandra lives close by and was always on hand if we needed anything, although was not at all intrusive. Little touches that made her an especially wonderful host were a homemade cake on arrival and a text to let us know the location of a koala on the reserve! The location is very special. You can easily get to the more bustling areas such as Nelson Bay and many tourist attractions (a car will be a must). Sandra has put together a really informative folder full of suggestions and advice regarding the wider area and we had a brilliant day exploring various outlook points. A short drive from the house is Lemon Tree Passage where we had the most fantastic meal at 'The Poyer's', the setting was beautiful, the food delicious and it felt special without being too stuffy to relax with the children there. Closer to home, a short walk from the house is a wonderful beach, perfect for safe swimming with children, and a reserve with plenty of boardwalks and some koalas. We were lucky enough to see two! There are also amenities such as a supermarket, bottle shop, takeaways and RSL within an easy walk so although a car will be needed to go further afield it is easy to enjoy a day or two free from driving if you wish. We will be returning home to live in the UK shortly but if are in Australia again I wouldn't hesitate to return to this property and will happily recommend it to family and friends.

I am originally from Ireland and have lived in the UK and New Zealand before moving to Australia. I discovered my slice of paradise in Tanilba Bay 21 years ago and it has been my home ever since. I love to travel and am lucky to have made a lot of friends from all over the world on my travels. I love to meet new people and share my travel tips and local knowledge with others.
