Our Island Trip
Our original trip was delayed due to Hurricane Beryl. However, Brian scheduled us in for a couple of days the next week. The property was just beautiful and we couldn’t even tell that it had gone through a storm a couple days before. The Island is resilient and for the most part was opened back up to enjoy.

Grand Place to Stay
There are a lot of years in this house, and it has been well maintained. It is very close to most attractions, but we most enjoyed being able to walk to the Strand. The bed was very comfortable, bathroom and bedroom very clean. The owner was quick to answer any questions. The housekeeper (Karin) is a blessing. the water only got to lukewarm is the only negative thing for this visit. It was, still warm enough for a comfortable shower.

Concert weekend in Galveston
Spent the weekend at Grand Manor while attending concert in Galveston. Property was located in perfect location to walk to the 1894 Opera House & downtown shops. Was somewhat concerned about the outside appearance of the house but once inside was very pleased & impressed with the beautiful craftsmanship & cleanliness of this treasure. Owner was very helpful & we plan to visit again.

First time to Texas from DC
This was a professional colleague's first time to Texas and loved Galveston! This historic home was the PERFECT place for him to stay, so much that he came back the following month and stayed here again. The hosts are very gracious and accommodating, and for the price it must be one of the best deals on the island! Thanks so much.

Grand Mansion Getaway
Mansion was exquisite. Located in a quiet neighborhood, and close to the Strand, the beach and several good restaurants. (i.e. Sunflower Bakery, Mosquito Cafe, Coastal Grill, etc.). The owner/ manager was friendly and very knowledgeable of the fascinating history of the facility. Room was very large, nice and quiet. It would have been better however, if we had had an interior bathroom. Was inconvenient having to leave the room when needed. Also, some rooms had a Keurig coffee maker. Ours didn't. We needed to go down to the kitchen for coffee. Otherwise a very enjoyable experience.

Great location & property!
Traveled with my 6 year old and stayed in the Birds of Paradise room. The location of the mansion is perfect to jump between the pier/harborside blvd, the strand and just a quick drive to Stewart beach! Seawall Blvd not a far drive at all either. Definitely will consider staying here again. Room was exactly as described, contactless I barely ever saw anyone else and although this particular rooms bathroom is actually in the outside hallway we did not mind at all. My son was fascinated with the mansion and made himself right at home!

Loved the location, and the house is a true piece of history.
We enjoyed our stay. Sure to a scheduling snafu, we ended up staying in a different room every night, which was a little strange but also gave us the opportunity to see and experience more of the house. We had a couple of issues with housekeeping and check-in but they were all resolved. Both the homeowner and the on-site manager are very nice. Overall, I look forward to staying here again in the future. It was a little odd for us right now because I didn't truly understand the size of the house or how many rentals in contained until we arrived, so given covid concerns it was a little harder for me to relax. However, we really didn't see other guests very often and it was fine. During normal times it wouldn't have bothered me at all. The location is fantastic. We brought our bikes, and the location is perfect for biking to the beach, the historic district, or the Strand. It's a lovely neighborhood with plenty to see and enjoy. We plan to stay again for another visit and try some of the other rooms.

beautiful house and room in a great location!
The house is beautiful and well maintained, everything i needed was there including bicycles to get around town. I enjoyed reaching on the covered porch. The owners were quick to respond to any questions i had. The neighborhood is beautiful and the architecture was breathtaking! Plenty of choices for food in the area and close to all the fun.

Deceptive advertising
We were not able to select our room online. It was pot luck. When we got there, we were told we had the Bird of Paradise room. This room had no private bathroom. If you wanted to shower or use the facility, you had to leave your room, walk down the public hallway 20-some feet (and a step down) to a public bathroom that is left open all day and located next door to a neighbor's room. The bathroom cannot be locked from the outside, so you could not leave your belongings in the bathroom (as you would in an adjoining bathroom). You had to pack all your belongings in and out every time you needed to shower, every day of your stay...like camping. If you needed to go to the bathroom at night, you'd have to leave your room completely, negotiate the 20-some feet and step down the hallway at night, and hope the room was not occupied by another guest when you arrived. We complained to the manager, who got belligerent with us for "insulting" his beautiful B&B and told us that the VRBO description was accurate and he intended to charge us full boat whether we used the room or not. Huh? We weren't able to choose what room we were getting in the first place. After the fact, he showed us the language on the Bird of Paradise room, claiming a "private" and "exclusive" bathroom for the accommodation, which was completely not the case. My wife would have none of it. We instead left the premises and booked somewhere else, never using the room at all, except to inspect it and find it seriously lacking. We will never book this place again, guaranteed, and would not recommend it.

Weekend at the Grand Mansion
Overall, our impression was good. The mansion is like a boutique hotel. There was an issue with the room we reserved for the first night and we were relocated to another part of the house - a larger space, actually the old servants' quarters on the ground floor of the house - had been turned into a suite. It was interesting, but felt pretty much like we were in a basement. The 2 portable AC units kept the suite very cool. And the bottle of wine was a nice touch. However we wanted to stay in the room we had reserved, so we moved upstairs to the 2nd floor on the 2nd day. The online description did not say anything about needing to navigate stairs or that the room was located on basically the 3rd floor of the home (servants quarters - ground (1st) floor; entrance to house, living rooms, dining room, kitchen - 2nd floor; guest rooms - 3rd floor). The online photos do show the entrance to the house only being accessible by the front staircase. I'm a senior citizen, and less stairs would have been good. The main floor of the house is decorated with Victorian charm, and the house represents its age (approx. 117 years old) very well. The location of this house is excellent - close to the Grand Theater, the Sunflower Bakery, the Mosquito Cafe and the Original Mexican Cafe. Really good places for entertainment and eating. The Strand is nearby, as well as many other historic homes. The seawall and the island's east beaches are just a few minutes away by car. Parking is good, at the front and side of the house. The owner was helpful and we enjoyed talking to him about the house.
