Serene garden apartment in the Sausalito hills

This serene one-bedroom apartment with private entry is situated at the end of a long, tree lined driveway on a large, 2/3 acre property nestled into the Sausalito hills. It occupies the lower floor of a private home whose upper floor is occupied by owner. Recently renovated and fully furnished, it looks out on greenery and large established trees, with views of the bay and Mt. Tamalpais. The unit embodies privacy and quiet, yet is walking distance to public transportation and downtown Sausalito: 1 mile to the ferry service, and just a few blocks to bus lines, the Caledonia Street shops and downtown Sausalito restaurants and shops. It is also minutes from various hiking trails in the area: Marin Headlands, Tennessee Valley, Muir Woods.

The location is also optimal for travel to desirable destinations both north and south: 2 minutes to the Spencer Ave/MonteMar Drive entrance to highway 101, 5 minutes to the Golden Gate Bridge, 20 minutes to most of San Francisco’s main attractions, and 40 minutes to the Sonoma/Napa wine country.

There is one large bedroom suitable for a couple or a single individual (one queen bed only, no other sleeping accommodations), as well as a large living room, with a kitchenette and bathroom (shower only, no tub) between the two. There is also ample outdoor space to relax in.

BEDROOM: Wake up to a view of greenery, plants, established heritage trees, and filtered views of SF Bay from the queen size bed. A dresser with pullout desk shelf and various small tables and chests are available to hold and organize your belongings, with a chaise longue for reading and relaxing. A small closet with shelves and full-length mirror contains a hotel-type safe for your valuables, as well as extra sheets and towels. The floors are ceramic tile with warm area rugs, and the unit has its own gas heater for cool mornings or evenings.

THE BATHROOM has a shower (no tub), with a beautiful stained glass window of curling green vines that echoes the outside greenery. A mirrored, custom made cherry wood shelving/cabinet and ample lighting provides space for your toiletries. Extra towels, washcloths and bath mats are provided so that you don’t have to do laundry before the weekly cleaning service arrives.

LIVING ROOM: This sunny room, with floor to ceiling windows along one wall, contains a large antique trestle table for dining or working, a library, and two comfortable armchairs where you can watch television or stream Netflix movies (46" HD TV). The floors are Mexican pavers topped with oriental area carpets. A sliding glass door leads to a private view deck where you can enjoy your morning coffee or meals on balmy nights.

THE KITCHENETTE: Suitable for light cooking, the kitchenette features a butcher block countertop, a two-burner inset induction stovetop with hood, a microwave and half-refrigerator, as well as a dishwasher. The cabinets are furnished with dishes, cutlery, and cookware for the induction stovetop, a toaster, blender, French press coffee maker as well as a drip filter setup. An electric Breville toaster/oven is available upon request. If you need something else, I can usually provide it from my own kitchen.

WASHER AND DRYER for tenant use only are located a few steps away from the front entrance of the unit.

OUTDOOR SPACE
In addition to the private view deck off the living room, a sunny flagstone patio area with bench, lounge chair, and table and chairs in the lower garden provides another outdoor venue for morning coffee or for lounging in the sun. A Weber gas grill is located here for cooking and dining al fresco. The patio, the grill and the view deck are for tenant use only.

Quiet and serene

Outstanding. We were very respectful that it is part of a lovely home but the space felt very private and the host went out of their way to make us feel comfortable, welcome and ensure our privacy.

Radiation Vacation

This quiet, lushly landscaped, beautifully designed space tucked into Sausalito's hillside with views of the bay, boats and wildlife from every room turned out to be perfect for our needs. As both my husband and I were receiving radiation treatments at UCSF Med Center, commutes to SF were only 20-25 minutes away. The space on our return was perfect, private and serene complete with a secluded patio. Our nicely equipped little kitchen made it possible to prepare most of our meals, though we occasionally took advantage of the exceptional restaurants close by. Our host was available and helpful throughout our visit but otherwise giving us the space and quiet we needed. All in all the property exceeded our expectations.

Beautiful oasis in Sausalito

I rented this apartment for a month and loved it! Diane is a fantastic hostess. The apartment is beautifully decorated and an easy walk to downtown Sausalito and the ferry to San Francisco. The apartment has spectacular views but the best part is the deck and patio where you can sit and read a book and watch the boats sail by in the distance. I also saw a fox and deer on the property. I would highly recommend staying here.

Fantastic vacation rental in a beautiful garden setting with views of Mount Tam and Sausalito Bay!

We recently spent 40 days in this private first floor apartment in a secluded hillside home with onsite parking. It was convenient to restaurants and shops in Sausalito as well as the ferry to San Francisco. The apartment was fully equipped and the owner was available for any questions. We look forward to staying at "Serene Sausalito" on future trips to visit our daughter. The rental more than met our expectations!

Our second stay at this lovely appartment

Our October to November return to this lovely Sausalito location was a pleasure. We benefitted this time from having access to the spacious living room with its views across to Tiburon. On a practical level, use of the added laundry facility was a plus. The property was in perfect order and all went smoothly. A pleasure also to chat to our host again. Sitting in dark grubby London now, we wonder why we came back!

Warm, comfortable, and convenient Home away from Home

I have stayed with Diane for almost four months this year while working in Sausalito. She is a wonderful hostess with this cottage-cozy two room apartment that is within walking distance of my office. BTW, the pictures are accurate and, if anything, understate how nice and comfortable this unit really is. Without dwelling on how nice Sausalito is, and it is, or how convenient to everything in Sausalito and the Marin Headlands this unit is, and it is - if you are singleton or a couple, this is the place to stay. Driveway parking; four steps up and four step down to the front door; new washer and dryer; reliable high speed wifi; wonderfully warm and comfortable decor; spacious bedroom; and most of all the privacy make this my choice for my visits to Sausalito. The kitchen is adequately equipped, lacking only an oven, and coupled with the Weber grill, let me eat-in most nights. Even though both rooms have these wonderful window-walls facing Richardson Bay, Tiburon, and Angle Island the lush vegetation provides a very peaceful and quiet environment. Both the upper deck off the living room and the lower flagstone patio provide opportunities to relax outside, commune with nature, and observe the occasional deer, covey of quail, squirrels, and on one occasion a small fox. It doesn't get much better than this.

Lovely Sausalito location

We enjoyed our stay at this studio very much. The location is convenient and the studio elegant with beautiful filtered views which can be enjoyed from terrace seating. Our host was helpful at all times. A great way to enjoy Sausalito

This is the one!

My husband and I stayed in this wonderful studio on our vacation. What a treat! It was very clean, quiet, relaxing and had a beautiful view. Diane was a great hostess and helped us settle in upon arrival. The studio was well stocked with dishes and linens. In the evenings the patio was a great place for a glass of wine and the windows opened to let a nice breeze in. There is easy access to groceries and great restaurants within a 10 minute walk in the hills or a short drive. This studio is also a great place to stay to do some exploring nearby if you are interested. We spent time in Sausalito of course, visited Sonoma, took the ferry to San Francisco, went to Muir Woods and Muir Beach, and hiked in Mount Tamalpais. All were within a short drive. We loved everything about our stay and would highly recommend it. This studio exceeded our expectations! If we are in the area again, we will definitely return.

winter vacation retreat

what a special and beautiful abode ! The quietness, occasionally interrupted by the barking of seals or the chirping of the birds, and the softness of the of the green surround accentuated by spring bloom makes a delightful respite from the busyness of life. All lends itself to letting down and letting go. Yet San Francisco is as easy as walking down the hill and hopping the ferry to the Embarcadero. Hiking trails high on the cliffs above the ocean down to Muir Beach for a lunch at the Peican Inn or sunning and surfing on the extensive breath of Stinson Beach are both easily accesible. Great location for the myriad activities of the Bay Area. Without going anywhere, though, one can enjoy the boats coming and going in the harbor by day, or watching the twinkling lights of Tiberon come on at night. A joy....

The Perfect Base for Exploring or the Ideal Retreat!

We love everything about this fabulous flat--the location, the tranquility, the comfort, the views, the garden, the tasteful furnishings and decor of the apartment itself. It's the perfect launching place for exploring the glories of the Bay Area, or, if you prefer, the ideal pastoral retreat. It's great to be so close to everything but to feel as though you are far from the madding crowd. Diane, the host, is incredibly helpful and welcoming. We will definitely be back and plan in the meantime to recommend this great apartment to others!

Why they chose this property

Quiet, tree-lined residential area away from the hubbub of the downtown area, yet close enough to walk to restaurants and attractions.

What makes this property unique

Because of the size and geographical situation of the property, all you see from the apartment are views of SF, Mt. Tamalpais, and gardens-no views of the houses and decks of others.
