About this property

Smaragdi Boutique Hotel

SMARAGDI BOUTIQUE HOTEL

A real emerald on the road of sand, the house of Aga, a gift to Fatma’s wife! For her eyes only! To see the sea unobstructed.

The crossroad of civilizations in Rethymno was inhabited by Minoans, Arabs, Byzantines, Venetians, Turks. They all left a cultural spell, a story.

In the ancient city of Rethymna, nowadays Rethymno, after the liberation of the city by Nikiforos Phokas, the twelve housekeepers came to live here, so they built on the sandy road Sabbionara according to the Venetians, the most beautiful and biggest mansions of the city. After its conquest by the Turks, according to myth, Agas, for dreamer Fatma built the first Aga’s house in front of the mansions in the middle of the 18th century on the sand road. Until the middle of the 19th century, the beautiful sandy beach of Sabbionara had been built by two-storey and three-storey Agas houses. Such a house with an oriental fragrance is SMARAGDI BOUTIQUE HOTEL, which stood over the centuries in order to enchant and travel you in space and time.

Its current owners, with respect and love of tradition, turned Aga’s old house into a modern, cozy space with all the comforts and touches of discreet luxury.

Its four suites can accommodate up to twelve people and initiate you to the secrets of Cretan hospitality.

Faros-Lighthouse

Our bridal suite. The first hotel built in Rethymno was named Eleftheria. With unobstructed view of the old and new harbor, the view is literally lost in the Cretan Sea. Like Fatma’s!

Ammos-Sand

A traditional home of today, a room (loft) for 4 people, exactly on the sand road.

Minares-Minaret

A double room with city views. Exactly in front of you is the Metropolis and in the background a minaret.

Uranos-Heaven

A room (loft) of 4 people with view of the sky and the shooting stars!
