About this property

Jungle Forest Mountain Getaway. Secluded, private one bedroom villa.

The villa is located on 750 acres deep in the jungle on the neck of the OSA Peninsula. It is a great spot to get away from it all vacation as well as to go on an adventure. Property is located 2000 feet above sea level and because you are higher up than the beach area, the humidity is not as uncomfortable as well as the temperatures are cooler than what you will find on the coast. The villa is located in a resort community with many opportunities for bird sightings. One of our family's favorites things are the sounds of the jungle - from the Howler Monkeys being your alarm clock in the morning as well as to tell you when it is nighttime, to the birds flying around, the flapping of the toucan wings as they fly overhead, to the catydids, the sounds of frogs croaking during the evening hours, the babbling creek sound from our deck - all as a reminder that you are surrounded by nature. There are more than 200 species of tropical birds in the area.

You start your adventure with the road up to the community from the Costanera Sur. You want to be driving a 4 wheel drive vehicle or All terrain SUV (which is recommended for much of Costa Rica). It is challenging and is best to travel during the day. After the 15 minute drive up the mountain, you arrive into a community based on the sustainable concept. The community features edible plants, gardens, a community center, a bar (that is open during special occasions and community events at this time) as well as a swimming pool. At this time the bar's hours are not consistent. But it does make for a great community get together spot. At the bar area there is a ping pong and a pool table for you to enjoy playing. You will want to make sure that you bring food with you as you will be making food in the relaxing comfort of the villa. Another of our family's favorite parts of our stay here is the garden area. We walk to the garden area and gather our own fruits and vegetables for our breakfast, lunch and dinner. We then cook in the comfortably equipped kitchen. If you don't care to walk to the garden area on your own, a couple of days a week there is staff that will gather items for you and leave it at the community center for you to pick up. But part of the enjoyment of staying here is being able to explore everything around you.

There are many hiking areas to explore in which you will find various edibles to pick on your own. There are 3-5 waterfalls on the property for you to hike to. I recommend talking to others within the community for guidance on where to go to get to the waterfalls. Once you get to the waterfalls there are watering holes to wade into and enjoy the cool mountain water. Before you begin your hike, we recommend locating a walking stick along the way and be sure to wear good hiking shoes. I love taking a hike first thing in the morning (before 5:30 down to the old volunteer center because from there you can really hear the howlers coming through the "Monkey Corridor". I also hike along the main road up to Finca KKK. Great walk and I normally see monkeys, various birds, butterflies and other animals. Just be quiet, listen and look all around you. You never know what you may see.

OSA Canopy Tour is also nearby - a definite must do while you are on the mountain. It features 14 platforms, 9 cables, 2 rappelling stations and 2 suspension bridges . They have recently been redoing the whole tour so the number of platforms may have changed. It is best to ask. It is a really great zipline. They will allow younger children to go. The staff is always pleasant and loves to introduce you to local culture as well as show you any animals or birds that they may notice while on the canopy/zipline tour. There is also a local canyoning/propelling adventure company. We haven't done it yet but I have heard it is an experience not to miss.

Villa is part of a duplex with a 1 bedroom furnished with a queen bed and large closet, 1 bathroom villa with a small shower. Villa features include tiled floor throughout, granite kitchen countertops, electric stove with oven, a coffee maker, air conditioner in the bedroom along with fans in kitchen, living room and bedroom. There is a covered exterior deck that looks out toward a pond and the jungle. Wifi is available. Smart TV that you connect to your home streaming services, DVD player. There is a community laundry area where you can use the washers and dryers. The tap water comes from the property's own source and is perfectly drinkable. Some of the photos are outdated as we have recently painted the entire villa white. The old photos will show yellow walls. We will be getting updated photos shortly.

If you want to get away from everything (yet still have comforts of home) this is the place for you. If you want to have people nearby but still be secluded and have privacy - this is a great place for you. Looking for adventure - where there is endless walking and exploring to do - this is a wonderful spot. In fact, since our daughter was 6 years old we were comfortable giving her a flashlight and letting her explore on her own (within reason, of course). She loved being able to go to the gardens too see what was growing. This is a place all about getting away from the everyday hectic crazy life and relaxing in a laid back environment.

I would love to have you stay at our place and experience what we love about the area. As well as you developing your own love for this jungle forest mountain getaway.

Terrific opportunity!
We stayed a month during the rainy season and were very happy with our choice of lodging. The villa owners (Brad & Vikki) and the local property managers (Jonathan & Clayton) engaged with us throughout the prep and visit to ensure our stay was comfortable and fruitful. The community was quiet (because of the season) and welcoming. The additional amenities such as the pool and laundry area were fun and helpful. The produce from the garden was amazing! The location of this particular villa in the community offers a private setting on a rarely used street, while still being close to the common grounds that offer the various amenities. We toured areas from Corcovado up to Manuel Antonio and found our location to be just fine for our use. It allowed us the option to enjoy local hikes/the pool/the community some days and head down off the mountain for our various tourist options on other days. The local Palmar Norte and Cuidad Cortes offer grocery, banking and restaurant options. Be sure to take food with you for your first night! There are no food options on the mountain. The presence of wildlife around Toucan Valley was a big part of the fun. We saw lots of toucans, learned the songs of multiple birds, saw one pair of scarlet macaws and heard the howler monkeys all from our villa. The Osa Mountain Community on the mountain, of which Toucan Valley is a part, is rich with wildlife! That most certainly added to our fun with this lodging choice.

Beautiful mountain getaway with amazing community!
Staying at Vicki's villa was the perfect start to our extended stay in Costa Rica. We really loved the community, gardens and common area. Highly recommend hiking to the waterfalls and also the zipline tour that takes you right over the resort!

Scammed Out Of Damages
The Stay? I Had To Clean Out The Refrigerator When I Arrived From Old Sauces, Gnats In The Ice Trays & Dirty Pans In The Cabinets. Extremely Old Spices That Are Listed As Amenities. A Spider Layed Eggs Inside The Villa Which Hatched & There Was An Infestation. I Was Bitten Multiple Times. The Mattress Was Very Unkept, After Removing The Bed Cover, I Was Appalled At What I Saw. Even Though The Village Is Promoted As A Resort, You Are Completely On Your Own. After I Left I Was Scammed By The Owner Out Of Additional Funds For Damages I Did Not Commit. What's Worse Is I Paid For Three Months & Did Not Complain About Any Of The Above, Which I See Now I Should Have Done. I Would Recommend Finding A Different Location. Moreover, I Am Displeased With The VRBO Service As A First Time User, Whether This Review Is Allowed To Be Viewed Or Not. I All Around Recommend Taking Your Business Elsewhere. SHLUM | PEACE

Excellent accommodation for the price
ring our staThe unit we stayed in (1A) had everything we needed for an extended stay in the way of appliances, cooking utensils, etc. We even had access to a free washer and dryer, which was much appreciated given the climate. The common pool area was a little climb uphill from our unit, but the steps and railing made the climb doable if one didn't want to drive up the hill and park. There is a swim up bar in the pool, but it was not staffed during our stay. The only draw back was the ride up to the resort. It was long, bumpy, and definitely required 4 wheel drive and an SUV with ample clearance not to hit bottom as the car negotiated deep ruts and large rocks along the way.

Beautiful! The shared common area was so much fun! Pool table and the swim up bar were perfect
The villa was very clean, bring your own spices as there were none but all of the other essentials were provided. The cleanest drinking water in Costa Rica! The gardens were immaculate and the hiking trails were wonderful.

Paradise.
After staying for a month, we decided to extend our stay for two more months. It is a great feeling to be inside the jungle, yet have a comfortable house with all the required amenities. You can encounter all kinds of birds, monkeys, tapirs, anteaters, and many other animals and insects. We were initially concerned about the insects, but they aren't bothering us and the house is very secure and clean. The Osa Mountain Village community is very friendly and helpful. The community gardens allows you to discover new local tastes. The location is great and it is also close to Corcovado national park, many beaches and restaurants. Highly recommended.

Awesome week
This was a great ending to a wonderful trip to Costa Rica. The Osa Mtn Eco Village resort is all that, for sure. Howler monkeys nearly every evening, fresh fruit availed on the trees. The villa that we rented was as described and everything functioned as designed. Unrelated to this vacation, I got sick returning to the Pacific Northwest in winter. I will try to come back later with more details about the people and the place.

Osa Mountain Village, Costa Rica
This property is in a beautiful location with a wonderful climate. It is relatively cool, and at a location that didn't seem to have the fog that is sometimes in the cloud forests above or in the valley. It is a wonderful place for people who enjoy nature, with tropical plants and beautiful butterflies and birds, including scarlet macaws, parrots, parakeets, and 4 species of trogons. You hear the howler monkeys near the stream. The view-scape is undisturbed forest, and you can see the Pacific Ocean from the entrance to the Village. You can hike on their trails to several waterfalls. The residents are friendly and it is wonderful to be able to walk up the hill and enjoy the swimming pool and game room. The villas are very comfortable and well-designed. The main drawback is that you need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to get up the gravel road to the property, but that is what keeps the Village is such a natural condition. I highly recommend this property.

Sure to please!!!
I vacationed at Osa Mountain Village Resort with my family (including my 87 year old grandparents and 10 yr old sister) and all 8 of us had the most amazing experience. Osa has something for everyone whether it was relaxing by the beautiful clean pool and clubhouse, hiking to the amazing waterfalls, or zip lining through the jungle for the ultimate thrill ride! We loved touring the gardens and collecting produce and supplies for the meals we prepared every night in our villa's well equipped kitchen. This resort offers the perfect balance of the beautiful villa amentities while experiencing the amazing Costa Rican jungle first hand. Nothing beats sitting out on the balcony drinking your morning cup of coffee while listening to the howler monkeys and watching the toucans fly by!!

Wonderful Stay
We have stayed at this facility in Osa Mountain Village Resort and loved every minute. We hiked, gathered food from the garden, took a mangrove tour and took the zip line tour. The resort has a beautiful pool area with a bar. The accommodations were wonderful and having morning coffee on the patio listening to the forest was a highlight. We would definitely go back and recommend this rental highly.

My husband, Brad and I live in San Pedro, CA. All 3 of our kids are grown and out of the house. With the youngest still in college. We love where we live because we have a view of the Port of Los Angeles and of the ocean and harbor. I grew up in Wisconsin and my husband grew up in California. Brad is retired and I work as a medical assistant. My husband fell in love with Costa Rica over 40 years ago during a vacation there. We first went together in 2012 in which I also fell in love with the area. We love the views, the sustainable living aspect of the community that we chose and the friends that we have made within the community. Unfortunately, with me still working we are not able to move to Costa Rica yet - therefore, we want to share with others and hope that they go away with the love the area as much as what we feel.

Why they chose this property

We bought this property because we really believe in having a place where sustainable living is important and being able to get away from everything. Yet we don't want to be isolated to where we have no neighbors. The views from the property are unbelievable. We enjoy hiking at our place in Southern California, but the hiking at this property is completely different due to the animals, birds, plants and overall scenery. You never know what you are going to see because things are constantly changing. It is very exciting.

What makes this property unique

The property is right next to a pond. So every morning (at least when we are there), we have a family of ducks walk past us as we are enjoying the quietness of the morning. My absolute favorite thing here is the sound of the howler monkeys as my morning alarm clock. If you are listening at approximately 5 am they start their migrating howling. The sound may last for 30-60 minutes and that is it. I so look forward to that sound and miss it as soon as I leave Costa Rica.
