Night life
The night sounds are raucus with frogs, bugs and owls. Additionally there is often local music being played in Marshall and Hot Springs. Great mix of country with town access. The setting at Myra's Cottage is blissfully peaceful yet close enough to things in both directions. The hosts are conscientous, the cottage well equipped.

Loved Myra’s Cottage!
My family stayed at Myra’s Cottage with our 12yo, 15yo and 18yo and had a great time! The ping pong table on the porch was a huge hit. The property is gorgeous and a hidden little gem. We will definitely be recommending this place to our friends and would love to stay again one day! Thanks Danny and Ginny for such a beautiful place to stay.

Simply heavenly!!
From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and comfortable! Danny and his wife, Ginny, greeted us with fresh flowers, fruit and chocolate. The home was immaculate and cozy, and the grounds were gorgeous! We had everything we needed and more. The online pictures don’t do this place justice. The bubbling brook beside the home was a perfect spot for morning coffee, and the fire pit provided a lovely campfire experience in the evening. We spent much of our time hiking the trails on the property, and we were not disappointed! The sweet collie, Cleo, was a fun surprise - she was always happy to go on walks with us. Cleo, Danny, and Ginny were such gracious and friendly hosts, we can’t wait to return!

Myra's Cottage
Great location and a quaint spot in the woods. The cottage was exceptionally clean, well-stocked and comfortable. We loved the ping pong table, the babbling brook, the firepit, and the short walk to the French Broad. The peace and serenity makes it hard to leave. Thank you for sharing your home with us, Jim and Renea

Lovely family getaway
This was our second time staying here and it was just as lovely as previously. Danny and Ginny are wonderful hosts. The house was clean and cozy with everything we could possibly need. We love hiking up to the waterfall on the property. From here we took day trips to Asheville and Hot Springs as well as the Blue Ridge Parkway. We also did some hikes along sections of the Appalachian trail which were gorgeous.

Lovely Stay
This is one of our favorite places to stay. We love to feel the quiet and peace of the mountains away from the tourist traffic. We also enjoy the easy drive into town when we're ready to venture out. The hosts are kind and make us feel right at home with their generous hospitality.

Myra’s in December
We have been here many times, first time in December and it was great as well. We have now experienced every season, each unique. Coming in December gives you a much cozier feeling, as can sit all day long and just chill and still enjoy the view of the outdoors. Maybe one of the most relaxing times we have spent.

Great Getaway
My husband & I traveled from Pennsylvania for a family wedding & were so excited to find this gem of a place to stay 3 miles from the venue. Danny, Ginny & Cleo sure made it feel as good as home. Absolutely everything we needed was provided for us in the cabin. Danny greeted us with fresh picked cherry tomatoes & red raspberries. We soon met Cleo , the resident cabin dog. We fell in love with her & she visited often, was even a great guide showing us our way to the waterfall on the property which you should not miss hiking to. Also, don't miss the river a mile away. it is breathtaking. We could have not found a more cozy, clean, well stocked cabin to stay at. FIVE STARS FOR EVERYTHING

“Steep roads often lead to a beautiful destination.”
Our stay at Myra’s cottage was perfect…peaceful, relaxing… a lovely walk to the falls, wading in the creek, sitting on the screened in porch watching the fireflies. Danny and Ginny were so hospitable, and their personal touches made us feel more than welcome.

Relaxing Getaway
Lovely spot far from the crowds but close enough to head to Asheville for a morning or afternoon—or stay put and relax streamside in a comfy Adirondack. House is clean and well equipped with a big screened porch. Head to nearby Hot Springs for casual dining or a hike on the Appalachian Trail, or to Marshall for great music and eats. Myra’s Cottage is perfect is you’re seeking natural beauty, peace and quiet.

Total Relaxation.
We just loved it. Everything you need is there, very clean and so nice and quiet. Beautiful scenery and an amazing night sky. Hikes and stores are within 15 minutes. It both reminded us of our Grandmas house. The only thing missing was Grandma cooking for us ;o) We would definitely visit again!

About the host

Hosted by Danny Wyatt

Host profile image
The back to the land movement was the genesis of Myra’s Cottage. Ginny and Danny bought Owl Holler from Gilbert and Nita Stackhouse in 1978. Gilbert was the grandson of Amos Stackhouse who moved to Madison County after visiting Warm Springs (now Hot Springs) and falling in love with the mountains. Aiming to live simply, we embraced the mountain culture that honors the land. We learned to fix it, make do, or do without. We harvested Hemlock trees from our land and built our house. We planted trees and birthed a son. We developed organic, sustainable gardens. We continue to garden extensively and enjoy sharing vegetables, berries & flowers with our guests.

Why they chose this property

Danny’s mother, Myra, joined us in 1986. She had become a Canadian after a three day romance with Louis Hildebrandt, her second marriage, and they lived near Calgary until his unexpected death. Danny built her a house down the holler where she lived until 2009. Myra was an amazing woman and we honor her memory by sharing her cottage with you.

What makes this property unique

Wonderful solitude in the midst of Mother Nature. Secluded yet within 12 minutes of Hot Springs or Marshall. Scenic 1/4 mile walk to the waterfall on the property and a one mile hike to the French Broad River.
