About this property

Water Front Casita w pool On Tropical One Acre Estate

This inexpensive but still a beautiful unit, Casa Cowee’s Casita created for the budget travellers or as an addition to the larger houses. No AC but not needed as fans and not exposed to the sun just the breeze off the water. We have decided to create a great escape on the water for those looking for a laid back real Caribbean Island experience. We are located in a shoreline neighbourhood of real Islanders and expats from around the world. It is one of the few left in the Caribbean. Hopefully it never changes. This Island is wonderful oasis and there is no need to live in a gated community. The Islanders are wonderful and helpful.
The pool has a large deck and beautiful jungle setting. Go snorkelling off our dock with the snorkelling equipment that comes with the rental, to one of the most stunning reef formations in the Caribbean. (second largest reef in the world). You can sit on the dock and enjoy the dolphins and their shows every day. We suggest snorkelling with the dolphins!
New pool! The use of two single kayaks and one double along with a paddle board come with the property for our guests to use. Also we have a good selection of snorkelling gear for all ages.
There is a great spa a minute down the beach.
This a one acre private property with Casa Cowee VRBO 126086 as the main house and Temple Tree House VRBO 503528 high off the beach which is used for local access to the properties on it. The houses are designed to catch the breezes off the water and the casita never heats up. Sunsets are absolutely the most stunning from our home.
This is a one acre estate which is lush with many fruit trees including lemons, limes, mangos, bananas, avocados, guanaba, jack fruit, nuts etc.
The property is gated with a private circular drive around a massive Mango Tree and in the back there is a towering Rain Forest LeCeiba Tree that takes your breath away.
Just one to two minutes walk to 3 great restaurants and two fun bars. 10 Min. drive to West End which is filled with restaurants and bars. Or you can have our staff bring you local food which is delicious. There is a produce truck that comes by if you wish. We have someone you can hire to pick you up at the airport, stop for groceries and can arrange a boat for fishing and snorkelling tours and do all island tours.
A nice point also is the proximity of a very good clinic at Anthony's Key about a 3 min walk away and they also have a recompression chamber there. Great doctors and service if needed and not expensive in our terms at least.

Love our stay
We just returned from two weeks in Roatan. Our second week was spent at Casa Cowee in the casita and it was wonderful. The Casa Cowee property is beautiful and Suzanne has been successful in making improvements to the property while keeping it true to island styles. Jose and Paul do an excellent job of keeping the property well maintained and are always available to provide assistance. The property managers Channin and Kimberly were very attentive even though we didn’t need to use their services much. As mentioned we stayed in the casita which suited us perfectly. It’s a bit rustic but not uncomfortable. There is comfortable seating inside (which we used on our two rain days) and comfortable seating outdoors on both of the casita’s private decks (we particularly enjoyed the upper deck). Suzanne was gracious enough to give us a tour of the main house (which is right above the casita) and there is nothing rustic about the main house – it is very nice! We did not tour the treehouse but it looks very nice and has it’s own private decks. They have recently installed a salt water pool and pool side deck which is a very nice touch and very private. Casa Cowee is close to a few restaurants, we tried the Bar Grill at Blue Bahia and the Sunken Fish at Tranquil Seas – both were excellent.

Perfect little casita!
We stayed in the bamboo casita for a week. It's small, efficient, comfortable, and has everything we needed. We loved it! Suzanne's crew - Channin, Kimberly, Jose, and our favorite, Gordo (a.k.a. Josef) were friendly and helpful. We loved meeting Suzanne and her sister, Ellen (and Barry too.) FUN people! The nearby bars and restaurants are fantastic and within walking distance. The sunsets are incredible and we loved hearing the dolphins calling from our room in the early hours. This is a nice spot away from the business of the west end, but still accessible. We bought fresh fruit off the local fruit truck and went kayaking and snorkeling (amazing snorkeling!) right off the beach. Thanks for sharing your little slice of Paradise with us!

Great place to unwind.
I would recommend this for anyone who wants to avoid the hustle and bustle of the busier beaches like west bay.

wonderful!
We had a wonderful time at Casa Cowee and thank you and the team for everything! We had a lot of fun and have a few people to thank! First, Channin is so good and was a world of assistance to us. From grocery shopping to excursions to island information – he is the expert! Kimberly was so nice and helpful to us as my mother was coming in later than our arrival – she is a host of information and was wonderful to us. Throughout the week, Jose was an angel! He was helpful, courteous and seemed to anticipate our needs without ever being intrusive. It was so nice to have him on the property – he was amazing. The house was wonderful – clean and beautiful. I have so many pictures of us on the deck – overlooking the ocean and sunsets….just gorgeous. The BBQ area was a hit and we used it a lot when we were there. It was very relaxing even with the holidays as the people of Roatan are so friendly and warm. And so willing to help each other out in any circumstance….after a big storm, a car was stuck and out of nowhere, so many people came to help. The ocean in front of the house is incredible – the amount of fish, sting rays and shells was like snorkeling in an aquarium. Our kids do not dive, but the next time we go back, we will be! Our trip to Daniel Johnson’s Monkey and Sloth Hangout was one of the highlights of the trip. Playing with monkeys was pure laughter and fun…holding a sloth is how everyone should start their day!!! Getting to West End and West Bay turned out to be very simple and we made a couple of trips, but we loved the serenity of Casa Cowee and were always so thankful of the house upon our return. Blue Bahia Bar and Grill was a favorite when we did not eat at home. Such great food at reasonable prices with such a warm staff – awesome. Reentry was tough, but our memories are keeping us going until we return. Happy New Year to you, Channin, Kimberly and Jose - thank you for making our trip so memorable!

Good beach access and snorkeling but lots of activity and noise from the islanders at all hours.
Casa Cowee is a beautiful place. Loved the local food and beach access is great. Good snorkeling right in front of the house and strong swimmers could easily reach the outer side of the reef for spectacular coral and abundant fish along the shelf (weather/wind permitting). I was quite disappointed in the amount of noise and activity from some of the locals at all hours of the night in very close proximity to the house. Mainly adolescent teens. Loud inappropriate language and music that will wake you after midnight. Jose the property caretaker is an outstanding, polite and attentive young man but I fear that asking him to patrol this type of activity is unrealistic. He is certainly willing to confront and ask these people to quiet down but we honestly had 2 nights out of 6 with uninterrupted sleep. Having heard one of these confrontations during the night following a noise complaint by other guests all I can say is I wouldn't want the job. Having said that, I can say people encountered around the island are friendly and courteous. Really enjoyed hiking through the botanical garden just up the road from the house (best $10 spent on our trip). I wish I had known that there is opportunity for fly fishing right off the bank all along Sandy Bay. Saw several bone fish and would have packed along a fly rod if I had known. I was told by Channin that no fishing license is required but didn't confirm this. Took Channin up on a snorkeling tour and island tour and enjoyed both.

Private piece of heaven!
My husband and I had been to Roatan before, but stayed in the West Bay area. This time back we wanted to try a bit of a quieter area. We were totally thrilled with Bamboo Casita. It had everything we needed, and Channin, Kemberlee, and Jose were happy to oblige with trips to the store or getting the fruit/veggie truck to stop. Suzanne's property is just beautiful, and she answered my questions quickly and thoroughly. A short swim gets you out to Anthony's Key dolphin pens! The other homes on the property were also booked, and a fish that Jose caught when we went on a snorkel trip with Channin and the other guests became a dinner that we all shared that was deliciously prepared by Kemberlee. You will be hard-pressed to find that kind of personal caring and sharing in the bigger, more crowded resort areas. Would definitely recommend any home on this property for those that enjoy a bit more secluded, laid-back vacation but still plenty to do if you so choose. Hope to be back very soon!

Casa Cowee's Bamboo Casita – perfect little getaway for 2 ♥
We stayed at Casa Cowee's “Bamboo Casita” during the last week of January 2017.It's the perfect size studio for 2 people.Upon arrival, we had arranged to have the property mgr Kemberlee pick up us at the airport. She drove us to the local supermarket where we picked up groceries before arriving at Casa Cowee. The studio has 2 ceiling fans that provided great circulation throughout. The windows/louvers provided lots of natural light and allowed the fresh air flow through. The studio was furnished with a comfortable queen size bed with cotton sheets, large closet & personal safe to lock up your valuables. The kitchen was equipped with a table & chairs, fridge, toaster-oven/cook-top, dishes & other items you may need during your stay. The bathroom is very spacious, large shower, good water pressure. There is a large wrap around deck with a hammock, small table & chairs. Nice place to sit & relax after a day of adventure on the island. The private upper deck overlooks the clear blue ocean. It's the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee, home cooked meals or a nice cold beverage while watching the beautiful sunset. The ocean is short walk away, within a minute you can be jumping off the private dock or snorkeling out to the reef.Casa Cowee has 2 kayaks that we used to paddle out to the reef, tie up to the buoys & snorkel in the pristine waters & view the colorful fish that the reef housed.A 10 minute walk away, you can enjoy the Carambola Gardens. While there you can hike to the top for a great view of the bay. There are several restaurants within walking distance were you can enjoy a nice meal & and have a cold beer with the locals.West End is a short bus ride away.Once there, jump on a water taxi to the popular West Bay.The beaches are beautiful, but very busy. While in Roatan, we booked 2 excursions with Channin Bodden Tours.Tour #1 consisted of the Jungle Top Adventures Zip-line (best zip-line ever) & an island sightseeing tour.Channin indulged us with the culture & history of Roatan plus his own family history on the island.Tour #2 was a ½ day snorkeling adventure. We seen a variety of fish & even a turtle. The water was warm, clear with great visibility.I would highly recommend Channin Bodden Tours.Casa Cowee has an awesome onsite caretaker named Jose.If there is anything that you need, just call his name and he will assist what ever way he can.1 week just isn't long enough in Roatan. If I were to come back to the island ,I would defiantly stay at Casa Cowee

Paradise Found on a Beach
Hiding out, writing a book, getting away from the maddening crowd of typical knowns? This is the spot. Located on the real local beach of Sandy Bay. Views of the water from the deck of the casita and the brand new upper private deck where you can sit and read or write or internet on your ipad with wifi or take up a meal and enjoy. The octagon little house has a big shower, lots of closet space, fabulous bed, TV with lots of American channels, kitchen and eating area all outfitted, hammock too. You can join other local flavour on the beach---the outside world has not taken over all of the Caribbean yet and snorkel right out to the reef or take a kayak, Josué the site manager who lives right on site is pleasant, comes with a voice call at any moment and carries out the kayak to the beach for you. Safe and secure is also a good feeling here. All time of the day you can swim in the ocean off the end of the owners dock ,just jump in to the biggest natural organic swimming pool yet, free to all ! Walk down the beach to restaurants and dive shops, excellent food, happy hours, wing nights, all you can eat nights, music. Enjoy all the benefits of the other boutique resorts for alot less than what others pay for a room there. Visit Carambola Botanicial Gardens across the main road from here. Swim with the Dolphins. Take a trip up the island with Channin and Kimberlee who are the manager couple that pick you up from the airport. Go to Sundowners for happy hour in West Bay , cab ride a few minutes up the road or Jose will call Channin to pick you up. French Harbour 2 restaurants must eat at, Captain Dixon " truely island authentic" and Romeos Italian. Temporay Cal's Catina further up the road past French Harbour has amazing view and wow food, order the lobster....tons.... Really adventerous try a trip to Punta Gorda for their local music and eats on Sunday only , again ask Channin for a drive. What can I say, excellent hideaway yet close to lots to do....exciting, not the same old resort, all inclusive boring holidays......be ready for a real adventure, you'll get Roatan in your soul and return.

14 day stay at Casita in Sandy Bay/ Beautiful, Safe, Well Maintained, Great Caretaker
The property is well maintained and groomed, the landscaping is beautiful, with lemon & banana trees, lovely exotic/native plants, large pine tree and several coconut trees. The Casita was just the right size for us (2 people), the studio was comfortable with ceiling fans in the bedroom & kitchen, a shaded deck with hammock and table with chairs were nice for both morning and dinner meals, a nice breeze kept the place cool during the night and day. The bathroom has a nice tiled shower, good water pressure, a small vanity- more than enough room/space for showering and getting ready. The kitchen was a good size with small frig. that fit the right amount of food for two people, the cook top was perfect for heating up food and cooking small meals, the kitchen was equipped with what we needed during out stay (plates, coffee mugs, utensils, french press). Bottled water was provided and additional bottles were brought up as needed. There is a TV with lots of channels, not that you would be watching much of it, but, just in case you wondered. The ocean is practically at the door- just a quick few steps and you are in the water. The dock was perfect for watching birds, having a drink or laying out. We used the sea kayaks and had a great time paddling out to the reef- which is extremely close to the house! Snorkeling is available right off the dock- if the water is clear (it rained a lot while we visited so the water was a little murky but if it was a clear day- there was good visibility). A short swim and you are at the reef, where there is much to see and explore! Sandy Bay is a wonderful tourist-free area, which is what we were looking for and liked best! We loved meeting the locals & frequently walked the beach and neighborhoods without any problems/safety issues. West End and West Bay are very close by and accessible by car or taxi. The caretaker, Jose, is a wonderful young man, who was available practically 24/7, he was attentive, helpful, friendly, very informative, did an excellent job taking care of the property and looking after guests as needed. We loved staying here and would recommend the Casita to anyone. We truly enjoyed the amenities offered here, the local restaurants, beach access, proximity to the reef & the quiet/secluded feel of the place! We had an excellent stay & think if what we described fits with what you are looking for- this is the place!

CASA COWEE / CASITA / TREE HOUSE TEMPLE
The property is well groomed with mature fruit trees fresh limes/lemons avocado coconut mango its literally just falling off the trees. The large sprawling decks patios with constant breezes made relaxing around the property a nice retreat from adventures around the island. Great location to Dolphins and some really great beach restaurants good snorkeling out front lion fish and many other critters. We liked it very much BEACH BAR and GRILL was our jumping off point for many adventures and its a stones throw from this property. Channin and Kemberlee are very helpful getting you squared away when arriving and providing second to none fishing snorkel and island tours. Jose is a full time caretaker at this residence he is always helpful and easy to reach from the local cell phone provided at the property he is a great guy bringing fresh fruit etc from the property just really helpful snorkels kayaks etc all provided at the property. This private residence has a good dock for fishing with locals Mr Johnson a local carver always working on something make him an offer when he is finished.

About the host

Host profile image
Hi, My name is Suzanne Boyce. I am from Hamilton, Ontario Canada. I rented Casa Cowee in 2013 for 6 weeks and fell in love with it so I bought it. The location is perfect for someone who is looking for a real island experience. I have a large mortgage business in Hamilton with a great staff which allows me to return to my island paradise every couple of months. I have been working hard at improving the property for the first two years I have owned it but it is now almost perfection. This year we added a new cement cocktail pool. I love the weather year round. Warm days and cooler nights. It is fun to watch the a real beach neighbourhood in action. The locals are very accommodating and friendly and most speak English. The fishing is great so now that the place is completely renovated I intend to go out and catch more of the delicious Mahi Mahi pictured with me and fresh tuna the first day I get there so I have plenty of fresh fish to eat. Snorkelling out to the reef where you can see thousands of bright fish, the odd turtle and even rays is so easy right off out dock. Our lagoon is blocked in by the reef so we are very protected and it is usually calm.

Why they chose this property

This is not a gated community by any means. You will be part of a neighbourhood and people use the beach as a side walk, for horseback riding and the odd local vehicle goes by but can't go more that 2 miles an hour due to the terrain. We sit up high off the beach so the house gets wonderful breezes so AC is not necessary. I normally need a light blanket at night. The Bamboo Casita has two large ceiling fans also.
Just walk down some stairs and out the front gates and you are right on the beach. You can walk down the beach to 3 local restaurants and bars. There are two Dive operations, Octopus and Tranquil Seas. Both are great. You can also dive with Anthony's key but much larger operation.
The dolphins are almost right in front of you. You just walk down to Anthony's Key Resort to book snorkelling with them.
If you want to step it up a bit just grab a taxi to West End that is where people love to party!

What makes this property unique

Casa Cowee is the Name of the property and we have the large house, a medium house for two people and now the Bamboo Casita. It is one whole acre so you are not surrounded by people. The Bamboo Casita can be rented separately or along with the Main house of Casa Cowee which is great if you have several couples who want their own space.
We have two kayaks on the property for our guests and snorkelling equipment if you do not have your own.
